I agree I don't think we will see much of Sherlock being snarky with Molly. But he might forget himself, once in a great while but she knows now that she can tread heavily on his toes and not get a verbal smack down for it.

Agreed.  It would be more of a slip up or he was trying to get something from her by buttering her up.

Yes!  The infamous slapping scene is a perfect example of this.  He struck back with the "Sorry your engagement’s over.  Though I’m fairly grateful for the lack of a ring" and Molly be like nope.

Just to burst everyone's bubble ... :D

No, no, I just want to say that I think the real impact of the slapping scene may turn out to be that Sherlock has lost some of his luster as far as Molly's concerned. Between the drugs and the Janine stunt; if she has any sense at all, surely she must be rethinking her ideas of what being with Sherlock would really be like.

Also I think he can still really, really hurt her. Even more so now, because she seems to have gone from having a crush to actual love. I'll bet those slaps ended up hurting her more than they hurt him. In fact, I doubt if he even thought of it again, while Molly's probably still brooding about it all these months later......

I also bet she's kicking herself for not running after him in TEH. And if she isn't, I will.

But he did "save" those slaps in his mind palace, so I think they got his attention.

Yes, he definitely used her slaps to help him stay alive and focused in the mind palace.

Something more will happen between them in S4.  I can feel it coming, but it won't be in the special.

Oh, I have no doubt he should be a little more wary around her from now on. Woe to him if he ain't. I really want to see them laugh together more than anything else.....

This bears repeating because i want it sooooo much:

Okay, I have to correct myself. Sherlock know about her feelings in S3. Maybe he realized it fully in the time between S2 and S3. But still I don't see him treating her badly on purpose in the whole show.

As for the slapping scene - it felt out of character a bit. Not that she slapped him at all, but she seems to be totally different person. Maybe Lazarus or whatever that was made that incredible change in her self esteem. Like people that walk on the glowing coals - they get the feeling they can do anything after that.

We need the slap for the mind palace, but I would write the scene differently. :P  I'm really curious for S4, maybe we get some background information. Mofftiss has so much to explain. nunu.gif

One more thing. Jim from IT. I wonder what he saw or heard from Molly, that convinced him she would not matter. Because as it seems she was the first person he used to get near to Sherlock.

Probably how Sherlock responded when she brought Jim into the lab. He was obviously more focused on his work with the trainers. Also wouldn't surprise me if Jim had left the lab then stayed right outside to hear what Molly & Sherlock talked about. Plus any other interactions she may have told Jim about the 3 times they went on dates or otherwise talked when they saw each other at Bart's

So question for the board, clearly by ASiB Sherlock had to have known about Molly's feelings for him because of his reaction to the gift.  So he definitely "gets it" by then.  But in TBB he flirts with her to see the bodies.  So did he kind of have an idea in TBB, but didn't realize to what extent she liked him?  He just knew flirting = I get things I want.

He probably picked up on some sort of feeling that she had for him by how she acted in S1. He may not have understood fully the extent until ASiB and the gift, but he's a smart cookie so knew enough that if he flirted with her, he'd get what he wanted/needed to solve a case.

He's a bit of a machine in ASIP but is less so by TRF.  Friendships do matter, love hurts, and people do count.  Caring is an advantage, but it is a painful advantage.

I'm just going to dump this here because ... well, because... I keep looking at it.

That funny little head tilt and narrowed eyes thing he does after she says "Have dinner?"  Yes, he heard her.

The thing that kills me about that scene is how hesitant and almost nervous he looks while looking out the window waiting for her to arrive, and then right before he asks her to "solve crimes."  And both of their reactions right at the end of that gif... lol.

Yes, both are like... "What did you just say?"  Even though they heard each other perfectly.

I don't think he ever treated her "badly" on purpose, did he? He just didn't think her (or anyone elses!) feelings were of any importance. He just used her to get what he wanted and sailed on. Until the Christmas party, when suddenly for some reason he understood what it felt like to be in her shoes. I like to think it's because John was influencing him.

I think she slapped him because she always thought he was something special, and then he shows up high, like a common drug addict. He did something stupid and she was hurt by that. Those kinds of emotions can cause you to do things you might not ordinarily do. Also I do think she's a little more confident around him now.

It's not what he saw or heard Molly do, it's what Sherlock did ... he acted like Molly didn't matter to him. Luckily for her, as it turns out!

Yep. I doubt if he even knew what "liking him" meant. He just thought it was something silly that girls do, I bet. And it gave him an advantage over her, which was the only thing that mattered to him at that point.

When he's standing at the window and Molly says, "You wanted to see me?" - his eyes narrow and dart to and fro like he's up to something... He's being a bit cheeky.

Noo! He is being diffident because he does not quite know how to handle what to him is almost a date!

I agree.  I've always thought he looked a bit nervous or uncertain.

I love this scene, and it's because I think they are both nearly speaking the same language, but not quite.

Remember in TBB, when John seemed to have to explain the concept of a "date" to Sherlock, and Sherlock dismissed it.  I think Sherlock doesn't not understand what constitutes a date to normal people, it's just that he thinks that such a thing is so profoundly boring that he can't imagine wanting to do it, let alone do it to/with someone he actually likes.

Enter Molly.  He's going to ask her to do something really special:  solve crimes!  That's better than a date.  That's a serious offer of affection and respect.  Not that he's trying to start a relationship, but she helped him in a very tricky situation with the Fall, and he understands that and is going to give her his very best -- the chance to look at dead bodies and solve mysteries!  No wonder he's nervous.  And then for her to almost misconstrue it as just a boring old opportunity to have dinner with him (not "have dinner" but have dinner)....no wonder he looks at her like, "Oh, Molly, nothing as ordinary as that.  I have something far better planned."

The woman who finally lands Sherlock Holmes, if indeed there is one in the far and unfilmed future, is going to have to be a very special personality who understands Sherlock and can decipher him.  As much as I like an occasional foray into Sherlolly fan fiction, I don't think Molly is going to be the one in "reality."  She wants the romance of the ordinary, and she deserves that -- it's worth holding out for too.
