I really don't think she has so much of the crush anymore in S3.  I think she's developed it into a more mature love for him.

Who is that who said that Molly is supposed to represent us the ordinary girls? Louis Brealey? Forgive me for laughing darkly because I don't resonate with that particular character and certainly cannot in a million years empathize with her fumbling ways. In fact, timidness irritates me in the same way of people who cry/shout/whine and hope to be given mercy because they decide to 'show their vulnerable side'. A tiger cannot change his stripes, Molly is better off with someone who truly can appreciate such 'gentleness' and truly mean it from the bottom of her/his heart.

On the other hand, she's getting a bit old to still be harboring a schoolgirl crush

Well, I have said it to myself several times. It didn't help. And I am a bit older that Molly. big-grin.gif

Yeah, okay, I have to grant both of you those points. Here you go, one for each of you ....  :tulip:  :tulip:

Without looking it up, I think Loo Brealey said something like "Molly represents every girl of a certain age who wanted to run their hands through Benedict's hair." Which doesn't describe me, exactly. But I still identify with her, not because she's timid or fumbling, but because she yearns for something beyond her grasp. And also because she'd rather be comfortable than stylish. ;)

What 'certain age' she means? :p I want to run my fingers through that inky curls but as long as I can remember I never act like Molly used to. Assess a situation then weight the pros and cons before deciding prioritized actions, yes, but never like our dear Molly. It is painful for me to watch such character and urge 'to straighten her up' is strong. Molly is sweet in a cringe-worthy way. . Its good that Molly is not my sibling who live in the same city else temptation for Pygmalion project might prove to be too strong for me because there's no way I will let my sweet sister exude a 'I want to please you and my devotion is always yours' to someone who treat her like that. It is dangerous to project an air of 'here's a willing victim/prey' even to the object of your infatuation.

I have to admit I've wondered that myself, since I assume Molly's in her thirties! She acts younger though, doesn't she? (So does Sherlock!) Anyway, I've always thought Ms. Brealey was referring to late teens/early twenties.

I have to agree with you there, I think a relationship between Molly and Sherlock would be disastrous, because she doesn't stand up to him. Although I also agree with sfmpco; I think she's learning to do just that. At least, I hope that's what her scenes in HLV were about ... Molly finally learning to not let Sherlock manipulate her. He'd respect her for it, too, I bet. I think they could have an absolutely lovely relationship, actually, if Molly would learn to get in his face when he's acting like a jerk.

All of S3 for Molly is a growth period.  Even in TSO3 we see her stand up to him when he comes to her for help on figuring out his ideal alcohol intake, and she's clearly worried enough about his best man speech that she confides her fears to Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson who both are a bit dismissive...but she KNOWS Sherlock.

Actually, S2 starts the growth when she stands up to him in ASIB.  When it comes time in TRF for him to vulnerable, she's the one he's vulnerable with because he DOES trust her... but he tests her with "If I wasn't everything that you think I am (i.e., he KNOWS what she thinks of him, crush, truth, everything) - everything that I think I am (i.e. he KNOWS what she thinks he thinks of himself) - would you still want to help me?

She is steady as a rock.  Because before anyone else says it, she believes in Sherlock Holmes.  "What do you need?"

Her unwavering belief in him and who he was likely kept him going a bit while he was undercover for two years.

She's not mousy and needs no Pygmalion treatment.

Ha, yeah, Sherlock seems to only respect those who did not let themselves be his doormat and even that did not mean much. Good thing John arrived in Sherlock's life, he is good to 'civilized' the stubborn sleuth. :p

Don't confuse mousy with introverted.  Molly is an introvert.  Louise is also very introverted, and dare I say shy.  But Molly's not so shy that she's uncomfortable in a group setting, as in the Christmas scene in ASIB.

:p FYI, I am an introvert but people never connect me with 'shy', rather friends & acquaintances often say that 'driven & steamroller' is my middle name. I still did not resonate with Molly Hooper in my introvertedness. Shows that being an introvert has zero connection with self-image & confidence.

never said it did.  I do guarantee you that Molly is quite competent at her job and not shy at all about her reports or what she has to do.

No, only rendered a mess most of the time it involve Sherlock ;)

Oh dear. I thought she was acting horribly uncomfortable at Christmas, even before Sherlock started in on her. Nor do I see her standing up to him so much as wilting under the onslaught, until she's finally pushed too far and protests.

She does have a touching faith in Sherlock. Be interesting to see if that was shaken at all by the drug use in HLV. I expect to see a more balanced relationship between them in the future.

Well of course she was uncomfortable under his withering assault, but she didn't let him get away with it, and he realized what a git he had been and apologized.  She's the only one who has so far been able to get him to apologize and to correct his behavior.  She can give him her own look and correct his verbal trajectory, or she can literally smack him into reality - something he later used in his mind palace to help him stay focused and survive.

Not in S2 or S3.

I see Molly as I see myself when I was in college especially.  I'm a shy introvert but am usually good in groups maybe a little quiet but not a stammerer usually.  However, when I was around a guy I had a crush on back then, I was like Molly in S1 with a touch of S2.3 [This scene: MOLLY: You’re a bit like my dad. He’s dead. (She closes her eyes, embarrassed.) MOLLY: No, sorry. SHERLOCK: Molly, please don’t feel the need to make conversation. It’s really not your area. (Molly cringes but continues.)].  The crush has since ended and when I saw that guy again a few years back, I could talk to him like a normal human which is what we get with Molly by the end of S2.3 and into all of S3.  Yes there are still some nerves in S3.1 but that is normal, I'm not in my usual element nerves versus major crush no matter what the location nerves even if the feelings do return.

Well, darn, I'll have to look it up then, because I'm certain that Ms. Brealey did say something quite recently about Molly representing the ordinary gals.  *Here I go a-Googling*  Aha!  At around 1:00, talking about her involvement in Sherlock: "I'm there for the ordinary women folk of the world.  It's a responsibility."

What a nice thing to say... and she's fulfilling it very well.

Hah, I don't think I realized you were on the ship too!  So yes, you too of course!  And anyone else!  My sympathies to you, of course, as I don't have high hopes for this one, or really any Sherlock ship.  ;)

I see a deepening friendship possibly but I think Molly's feelings will remain in the unrequited area. (Sherlock you big git ;) )

I would hope for more between them, but I'll just get smacked down for it... so I'll keep my musings to my own fan fiction.

Nooo!!!  Don't do that... then I'll be all alone in my musings...

Well, my musings are that something more DOES happen between them but with disastrous results because he can't handle it.  But I do think if they push his character hard enough, crushing him in some way, that he could seek solace and comfort with Molly, but if either of them were to get that confused with love, hearts will be broken... that's what I see.
