Well, my BC film collection is finally looking like something worthy to be counted (thanks to great deals on Ebay).  Will post my collection list soon.  I'm waiting on 5 more to arrive right now, and I have bids on others...

You know, I really want to watch The Imitation Game, but it's not in theatres anymore and they haven't released it on DVD yet!

Yay!  I finally have movie collection all in one place again.   I threw out all the cases and just kept the disks in a mulit-case that had sleeves.  The only ones that have cases anymore are the BC films... I think STID arrived today... woo hoo!

Srsly? Have you checked a little farther afield? I heard they were adding it to even more theatres recently; in fact, I see another local theater has picked it up. If I increase my search to a 25 mile radius I find it in 15 theaters!  And I'm in the boondocks.

We've pre-ordered it, but Amazon (US) hasn't yet announced a release date.  Amazon (UK) is accepting pre-orders for a March 9th release (though of course that's a Region 2 DVD).

How did you find out it was her birthday?  Am I missing some sort of notification system on the forum?

I noticed the other day that on the main page at the very bottom of the right side column, it will show user birthdays if they have it listed in their profile.

Speaking of "social media detox" --

Icon-Hazard.pngModerator Warning:

While I'm delighted with the recent increased activity on the forum, I'm finding that I can no longer keep up with every single thread, every single day.  So if you have a general problem, comment, suggestion, or question, please post it in the "Afghanistan or Iraq?" section of the forum, where I and the other staff members will be sure to see it.  If you have a question or comment for me personally, please either post it in "Speedy's Cafe," which I will make a special point of keeping up with, or else send me a Private Message.  Thank you!

(I will also post this notice in other high-traffic threads.  Sorry for the repetition -- just don't want anyone waiting patiently for a reply on a thread that I don't happen to get to.)

Rewatching TRF as I type this. White Tower - Old Bailey. Moriarty looks so smug there and the undertone when he got a female officer to retrieve a piece of gum from trouser's pocket is so.... :D What a flirty, naughty magpie :p

And I stumbled upon a great BBC documentation The Secret Life of Chaos about self organization of matter and chaos. It starts with Turing work I didn't know about. For those who like stuff like this.

Ooooh, thanks, I'm fascinated by chaos theory, even though I usually can't make heads or tails of it!

If any of you are using Ball brand canning jars, they've recently (re?)introduced a wide-mouth 24-ounce size, halfway between a pint and a quart.  I've been wanting that size for years, and making do with a few old peanut-butter jars (which are fine, but take a slightly different lid).  These are a taller version of the wide-mouth pint, so they're also freezer safe.  And of course they take the same wide-mouth lids as the rest of my collection, from half-pint to half-gallon.  I haven't actually canned for years, but I use these jars for refrigerator storage and occasionally for shelf storage or freezing.

They're available from Amazon (US), but I got them for about half that price at the local Target.

Okay, from canning jars to looking for an indoor, standing hanging planter.  Something about 6' tall.  I've tried K-Mart, Target, Orchard Supply.  Home Depot sort of has something but it's not as tall as I'd like.  Suggestions? (I can't put a hook in the ceiling).

A couple of these don't look too bad.  Ain't nothin' cheap, of course.

Also, if you can't hang anything down from the ceiling, do you have any sort of railing that a plant support could go upward from?

Or, if you're at all handy, you might be able to cobble up an indoor base for a standard shepherd's crook plant stand.

Yup, he does -- but it's not like you might imagine.  You might like to read what some forum members have said about that series.

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes  :applause:  :grovel:  I had a really nice time.

I have also got a little dog called Rio - my friend relocated and could only take 2 of her 3 dogs. He's nearly 16 but very fit and is a corgi-cross.
