I'm torn because I'm a skier, but I think I'm approaching the point where I'm looking forward to warmer weather again.  Will be nice to get outside for stuff other than just skiing.

**bursts into Speedy's and leans on the counter, panting heavily**

I was just surfing... and Google was throwing some pics at me... and there were some from Frankenstein... so I look at the other actor as the monster and suddenly I go like I know this guy... can it be? Am I seeing ghosts? Then I checked and... Jonny Lee Miller... well, there are two Sherlocks playing together on the stage!

Am I quick, huh? I told you my brain works in strange ways...

You can stay, catch your breath, see if your mind will catch up even faster.  It's not like either Sherlock is in there to chide you for your entrance.

But I am here - to be ashamed of that 7 years old kid jumpin out of me like a Jack-in-the-Box.

Okay, I have seen maybe three episodes of Elementary, so I was not that familiar with Johnny Lee Miller. Funnily enough - it was his monster face I recognized.

Elementary feels like a methadone drug replacement therapy against Sherlock addiction.

I'm getting ready to start a Sherlock-themed oil painting.  As I have no art supplies (literally NONE), I am starting from scratch, but I just purchased a basic set of oil colors on Ebay, and I've got my eye on a set of brushes.  I'm going to be looking at some canvases.  Not sure how big this painting will be... somewhere between 24x36" and 36"x48".

I am also looking at images of Sherlock to see which ones I want although i can make any pic of BC look like Sherlock, so I'm not limited that way.  I know it's going to be some sort of collage.  I know it will take me a long time.  I know I will never be satisfied with it.

A bicycle shop in Kansas also wants me to do a painting for them, but I have to find a subject matter I like (they said no bicycles were necessary to be in the painting).

That sounds like fun. Check out dick Blick's or a place like Joann etc & michael a for canvases. The last 2 mighty have some good coupons that can be used (even online) to make it cheaper.

Join the club. I can never write anything (prose, posts, etc) the way I like it. Most I can do are little snippets that sound alright. Ish. And the same with my artwork. And basically anything I ever create. It's just never enough. :comp:

I signed up online with Michaels as there is one in south Pasadena, but the thing that is always the most expensive is the canvases.

So true, that's why coupons are your friend.  At Joann's I et a teacher's discount since I homeschool and I would get one of those at Michael's as well if I ever remembered to sign up.

Welcome to the perfectionist club.  It took me a few years to get myself past that.  I have a painting that is 8 years in the making because I haven't found the right picture of a steam locomotive (need the perspective from the back & side not the front & side as most pics tend to be).  That painting taught me to let go of the image in my head (near photo quality) of the steam locomotive because I knew I did not paint like that.  There went most of the perfectionism and the freedom increased for my artwork and the risks I take.

There is a Joanne's not too far from here.  Went there a few weeks ago with my landlady's mother, but I didn't get to explore much because she is elderly and doesn't have the energy to explore.  Just go in and get what you want and get out.  I didn't even see any art supplies.

Posted

Sometimes they get a little buried depending on the size of the store.  The Joanne's closest to me is over half related to sewing.  The other half is everything else.

We went in looking for yarn and crochet hooks but got sidelined by the fabric...  I was in Michael's just before Christmas, and what a complete madhouse that was!  Didn't have time to go after art supplies which must have been on the upper floor where I didn't go because they certainly weren't on the lower floor.

I have never been in a 2 level craft store.  I have been in some sizable 1 levels. And yes craft stores can be quite crazy around Christmas time.

Our hummingbirds have stopped feeding as much because it's just too hot.

Poor li'l fellas -- mostly sitting in the shade, trying to keep cool, I suppose?  Our hummingbirds won't even be back for another month or so.

Though as I understand it, methadone is just as addictive as heroine, with the "advantage" being that it isn't any fun.  So your analogy could definitely be pushed too far.

I can make any pic of BC look like Sherlock....

That can apparently be very tricky.  I'm not an experienced artist, but as a consumer of fan art, I've seen some adapted pictures that simply did not work for me.  I think there are two potential problems.  The one you may be able to do something about is the facial expression -- Cumberbatch and Sherlock share a body, but they use their faces in very different ways.  Assuming that you can tweak the expression, you still run the risk that your audience will recognize the source, which can be very distracting to them.

Of course, people base artwork on photos all the time, even professionally, and it's often an adaptation.  The closing credits of the final Hobbit movie had a lovely drawing of Bilbo that was so obviously based on a particular photo of Martin Freeman that I laughed out loud right there in the theater -- thereby embarrassing myself because no one else got the joke.  But I suppose if only one out of several hundred people notices, that's not doing too badly!

A question to people who ever get drunk, how is it feel when you have a massive hangover and suddenly someone dumped cold water (or probably a cold shower) on you? :D

Posted

No experience there (allergic to alcohol) but it reminds me of the scene in princess bride between Inigo and Fezzick where Fezzick nurses Inigo back to health from being drunk.

Of course whatever photo I base the picture on will be recognized by the fandom, but that can't be helped.  I'm fairly certain it will be a thematically dark painting.  I might post a few of the photos that I am looking at to see if anyone has better renditions of them (some are cropped too much).

No one here ever experience such thing?

Wish I could share but I don't drink alcohol, sorry! Not because of any health or moral reasons, but because I'm saddled with overly sensitive taste buds for "bitter" - I simply can't get enough of the stuff down to get drunk (and don't get me started on grapefruits). The best I ever managed was getting tipsy on some very sweet mead, and that evening didn't involve any close encounters of the icy kind, so I can't help you there .

Well...

1) There may be some people addicted to Elementary out there. 2) It is not the real stuff. 3) You don't get a kick out of it.

I think it's enough. :P

Complete change of subject, but am I the only person who physically feels emotions? Like fear, I can feel fear like an iron band around my chest. I still recognize it as fear, I don't call an ambulance and claim I have a heart attack or something like that, but I wonder... is this normal? And if it is, I wonder how many people there are who feel their emotions but don't recognize them as emotions and do call an ambulance or sit for hours in doctors' waiting rooms and nobody ever finds out what is wrong with them and they cost a ton of money and get a string of unnecessary and potentially harmful tests? Does this happen? I hope it doesn't. But I am afraid it probably does.

I should take a nap or something. My brain is spewing nonsense on autopilot. In public.

I physically feel some of my emotions but like you it's not a doctor's visit inducing feel.

And there are some who do end up seeing a doctor for it, but I have a feeling that some of that might be connected with having anxiety/panic over the sensation.

Thank you anyway. I read in a story somewhere about it and cannot help but to wonder about its degree of realism. Supposed I should get a John Watson of my own, eh? *mad scientist mode* :lol

@T.o.b.y: That sounds like panic attack/PTSD.
