That sounds like fun. Check out dick Blick's or a place like Joann etc & michael a for canvases. The last 2 mighty have some good coupons that can be used (even online) to make it cheaper.

I signed up online with Michaels as there is one in south Pasadena, but the thing that is always the most expensive is the canvases.

Earggh, no! Michael's will charge you twice as much for half the quality. Dick Blick's my favorite but ASW, Jerry's and Cheap Joe's are all good choices too.

No one here ever experience such thing?

Sorry, nope!

Complete change of subject, but am I the only person who physically feels emotions? Like fear, I can feel fear like an iron band around my chest. I still recognize it as fear, I don't call an ambulance and claim I have a heart attack or something like that, but I wonder... is this normal? And if it is, I wonder how many people there are who feel their emotions but don't recognize them as emotions and do call an ambulance or sit for hours in doctors' waiting rooms and nobody ever finds out what is wrong with them and they cost a ton of money and get a string of unnecessary and potentially harmful tests? Does this happen? I hope it doesn't. But I am afraid it probably does.

I should take a nap or something. My brain is spewing nonsense on autopilot. In public.

You mean everyone doesn't feel them physically? :p  I know I do, in fact intense emotions can be a problem for me because they can throw me physically out of whack for days. I work pretty hard to keep on an even keel, actually. No time to fall apart. But yeah, there's a physical component to most of my emotions. Does that help?

Today is besleybean & SherlockedCAMPer's B'day. Thank you for your cooperation all these times and may your utmost wishes come true ^^

Happy Birthday ladies! :happybirthday:

Happy birthday, besleybean and SherlockedCAMPer! :bdaybanner:

And I can feel emotions physically too - strong ones, anyway. They wash over me like a shower of, well, feelings, and I mean that literally, not metaphorically - I can feel the sensation spread and everything.

:happybirthday: to the birthday girls!

The Dick Blick stores sound interesting (and I like what I see on their website), but so far the only one in Indiana is in Evansville (AKA "you can't get there from here"), and the closest one in Ohio is way over in Columbus.  They apparently offer just about everything online too, but when I shop for art supplies (which isn't all that often), I like to see and feel what I'm getting.  So I'm hoping they'll expand to central Indiana one of these days.

Ah. Well, that's unlikely to happen -- it's more likely they will go completely online. In that case I'm afraid the only option is to go and feel up the supplies in Michael's then order from Blick anyway. If you can find what you want at Michael's, they're going downhill imo.

It is not unusual to experience fear as a pure bodily sensation. Have seen lot of this - having issues with anxiety/depression myself and I spent enough time in doctors' waiting rooms. Somehow we tend to suppress negative emotions, until they try to get to us through our bodies. Pain, vertigo, stomach issues - it all sounds better than depression or fear, or burnout. Sadly, the first still look like signs of being just overworked, the second - signs of being a looser. Thanks goodness it changes.

I think it's incredibly fascinating. I wonder how this kind of thing works inside the brain. How does it "translate" an emotion to a physical sensation? I mean, usually its the body that sends signals to the brain and that creates pain, dizziness, etc, but this seems like the process is happening the other way around. Very odd. Perhaps certain emotions provoke automatic reactions of the vegetative nervous system, which cause physical alterations, which then lead to "real" physical feelings?

I've always thought it was just brain chemistry? Y'know, like increased dopamine makes you feel mellow, increased adrenaline gives you the jitters; stuff like that? I'm sure it's not quite that simple but that's all my little mind can grasp. :p

Well, I know the reason why some recreational drugs are especially addicting is because using them kills off your dopamine-creating thingies in your brain, thus making you rely on the drug to feel happy.

Actually, that was a gross oversimplification of the whole process, because I also can't grasp much more than that.

Basic understanding, even if over simplified, is better than nothing and the thingies are called transmitters and receptors.

First Setlock, and now this....  the only thing that would make my year complete would be Hiddleston in Sherlock.  Things happen in threes, yes?!?!

I'm even more excited about TWIN PEAKS coming back.

I liked X-Files for the characters, but newly the factual-error-BS they throw at you outweighed the fun.

No, like high school musical but without soccer (I think, I haven't either watched either of them)

It's kind of like high school musical in a 30 minute sitcom geared for adults with SNL type brains behind it. (my personal and extremely biased opinion after watching commercials for it only and deciding it wasn't worth the time)

Posted

Now my next question: What are SNL type brains? (Note that I did not ask what High School Musical is. To my shame I must admit that I know that.)
