Dear Boswell, what about the bowing? There have been several pieces written about how both brothers cannot play the violin, as Benedict himself mentioned in the commentary to TGG! Actual people who work and live through that instrument have complained about the lack of proper consultancy in that respect! One of the most famous is in Ao3, entitled Sorry, Benedict.

I've decided I now want a flashback explaining the dynamic change between Molly and Sherlock.

Sitty, you mean from downtrodden mouse who brings him coffee in SiP, allows him to manipulate her into seeing the telltale tattoos in TBB and is manhandled back to the lab in TGG to "I've moved on" in TEH and the lab sequence in HLV?

The fandom liked her, and Mr Moffatt is nothing if not obliging if his interests coincide with those of the fandom. Giving her more space and longer screen time takes it away from, let's say, Dr Watson and Lestrade, and actresses have always been paid less than men, with certain famous exceptions.

... and dear Arcadia, how can anyone fail Astronomy! It's better than Maths, it combines everything, like that Douglas Adams quote about "the universe and everything"!

Because I'm terrible at math, that's how! :D I took the class because I thought I'd be looking at stars, not trying to solve equations. Ooof.

Coming back to wishlists: two small additions - (1) more scenes set in 221B E.g. client interactions, and (2) significant improvement in John's typing speed (Please Mr Freeman, there are any number of tutorials online that can bring you up to speed (literally) in a short time)

John doesn't need to type rapidly, he's got a really neat macro keyboard that generates a couple of words per keystroke!  :P

I believe you're correct, that Martin Freeman himself is not much of a typist.  I've seen only one of his characters (in the mini-series Boy Meets Girl) touch-type, and that was in a close-up of the character's hands that also included writing right-handed notes -- so they clearly had a hand double.  However, I wonder whether the Powers That Be even want John to be a speed typist.  Surely Mr. Freeman would be perfectly capable of faking the keystrokes, and who would even notice?  (OK, so some die-hard fans would run those scenes in slow motion and reconstruct his text as "oltewhyeowfnsl" -- but so what?)  So maybe They actually want John to be more of a slow-but-steady typist.  Good old reliable Watson!

Speaking for myself, I would like a return to the ACD stories transferred to a modern setting, like some TOBY mentioned above, including The Speckled Band, The Abbey Grange, The Second Stain ( imagine Mycroft losing a state document and having to rely on baby brother's help  ) The Blue Carbuncle, The Dying Detective for example.

I would definitely want to see the end of Mary, preferably before a child is born, a worthy adversary but NOT Moriarty again, and a calmer, more effective Dr Watson. Learning goes both ways: Sherlock learns how to be better at socialising, it's time Dr Watson learned how to curb his temper and be a better friend, if not flatmate!

On this new season, I really would like to see Irene Adler back ! The actress is terrific and the caractere is amazing far away from the one in the books but still amazing !

Well, I want Moriarty too, but more present maybe ! And I hope there will be something with Watson's daughter, even she's not called Sherlock ! :P

Hi there Moi, welcome to the forum! :welcome:

I'd like to see John's daughter too, I'd like to see what her presence brings out in our boys. Although I do hope they find a way to name her after Sherlock, that's just wrong if they don't! :)

First, thank you !

And they HAVE to call her Sherlock, that would a terrible mistake if they do not !

Welcome to the forum, Moi!  :welcome:  Glad to see you jumping right in with your comments!

Of course they'll need to show us John's daughter (great opportunity for some comic relief for all that darkness they've been "promising").  I'm still thinking they could call her Gloria Scott Watson -- ostensibly for one of Mary's friends or relatives plus Sherlock's middle name, but of course also for the Holmes story "The Adventure of the Gloria Scott" (which could perhaps also loan a bit of plot to the new series).

Hi Moi! I would love to see John's daughter also.

As well: could we please see Molly wear a great dress, and without any decoration on her head that would be more suited to a Christmas tree of the top of an Easter egg? And I say that with nothing but love for Molly, but I wish they could give her a dressed-up moment that did her justice.

Not even necessarily dressed up -- just a halfway coordinated outfit would be nice once in a while (says the queen of casual!).

On the other hand, clothing doesn't seem to be one of Molly's priorities, or one of her talents either.  I'm afraid if she tried to "dress up" again, she'd just end up looking awkward again.  If we love her just the way she is, maybe best not to rock the boat?

Yes I am also afraid of what she may wear next if left to her own devices. My ideal scenario is probably Richard Gere taking her to that shop on Rodeo Drive where he took Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.

If not Sherlock - maybe Scotia?

Because .... ?

I'd be happy if she just wore slacks that fit her correctly.

I don't know what y'all are talking about.... this is the height of fashion.

I hope Molly is still a fashion disaster in series 4.  I find it endearing.

I love how Molly always has shirts and sweaters/jumpers that are totally both busy patterns that clash.  lol

Agreed!  I think she actually has good taste in individual items of clothing -- for example, that embroidered-cherry cardigan would look very nice over a plain-pink blouse.

As regards her slacks, as we've discussed on another thread, the clothing manufacturers simply do not seem to have some of us in mind, and in this case "us" may include Molly.  If she can't afford custom-tailored slacks, she has to do the best she can with what's available ready-made -- and if she has to choose between comfort and style, she may (like me) give more weight to practicality.

Oh, but I truly LOVED her pink scarf and pink gloves in TEH (seriously!) - that's just Molly pure :-)!

In fairness, she is super-adorable in everything, especially her mis-matched prints. It's just the very odd time, with the dressing up, I feel like they are actually making her an object of amusement and I don't like it. She usually looks great at work though (perhaps partly because the white coat sometimes covers the mismatching a bit.)

Yes, she has nice taste in individual pieces. I keep wondering where is her good female friend to say to her... yes to both of these items, but maybe not together?!

Yes, really cute. I also loved how they lit her in the scene where she's writing notes in Sherlock's apartment. She looked lovely in that episode.

It's not her fault - she was written this way. :)

The stupid things about making a production like that - you cannot just turn back to things you have written 5 years ago and change them, so they match the characters that developed differently than you thought they would.

Loo/Molly is too adorable to look not adorable.

 I have seriously never thought of Molly as a "fashion disaster" before. I like her clothing - it looks like something a real woman would wear. The humor of "she's so badly dressed" went straight over my head until I read comments on the internet. To me, Molly looks nice and normal. Most of the time, I thought "wow, where did she get that?" or "hey, I wonder if I could do my hair that way" or something similar.

No wonder people grin when they see me without my working clothes. :D Dear Molly, lets be fashion disasters together (and accept that a white lab coat is probably the most flattering attire for girls like us anyway... ;))
