That could be a photo of the badge Molly wears in the episodes, but then again it could be a fan concoction.  (Has wellingtongoose ever disclosed the source?)  There was a glimpse of a badge in at least one episode, but as I recall, the screencap wasn't particularly legible.  OK, I found a recap (with photos) of a previous discussion.  In any case, I don't believe that badge photo has ever been officially released, so I hesitate to think of it as Sherlock canon.

Also, if Molly really is a doctor, then why is she never referred to as such -- most puzzlingly, why does the ever-correct Mycroft address her as "Miss Hooper" in a professional setting (the morgue scene in "Scandal")?

So I'd really love to hear Ms. Brealey's views on Molly's professional credentials.  Or Moftiss's views -- there's a Moftiss question for you, S&J!

That I don't know.  I can't verify where that picture/badge came from, although people seem to think it's authentic.

I'm sitting here racking my brain trying to think if I have any questions at all... and I'm all... it's as if my brain has turned to mush.

Same here! I'm sure I have a million questions all over this forum but now I can't think of a single one!

Actually, wait ... I've always wondered how collaborative the process is between the actors, writers/producers and directors. Do the actors have input into the scripts? Do the writers have input into the way a scene is acted or filmed? Etc. Or do they just do their own bit and trust each other to get their part right?

Wellingtongoose's page addresses the Miss bit. Apparently, if you're surgical they don't call you Dr.? Dunno why that would be, as that is very different from here in the States, but I guess that could be a plausible explanation.

ETA: Further explanation on surgeons and the "Miss.". http://wellingtongoose.tumblr.com/post/68816603719/why-miss-molly-hooper-would-be-a-surgeon

So you could ask if Molly is a surgeon, or did they just screw up? ;)

ETA: I'm of the opinion that Molly is a doctor, not necessarily a surgeon, but that maybe they just overlooked Mycroft not calling her Doctor. Wellington's explanation, while probably perfectly valid, seems very complicated, and I can't imagine Moftiss going through that whole thought process of Miss being the proper title for a surgeon over one line of dialogue, and a greeting nonetheless.

If that's the name of the game, I might as well ask them why Sherlock needed a corpse in order to fake his suicide, and why he couldn't just have lain down on the pavement immediately. ;)

Good one; I've wondered about that myself.

Very well put!

My best guess is that they originally thought of her as a lab tech, then realized that in order to have that sort of latitude she'd probably have to be a doctor -- but they're not quite ready to commit to either.  In other words, somebody needs to rattle their cage!

I'd love to hear their take on that question as well!

Go right ahead - I'd love good answers to both questions!

Is it very irrational of me that I am nervous about this convention, and I'm not even going? The thing is, I can just see the media spreading ridiculous stories about how silly, immature, sex-fantasy-obsessed etc the Sherlock fans are... the only thing worse would be if those stories did not even have to be made up...

Oh, yeah! Ask that one too. We should come up with a list and you can share our list. ;)

I do like Baker Street Babes interpretation of Molly, especially as it relates to the mind palace sequence in HLV - that she represents ALL medical knowledge to Sherlock - which means that she has complete medical training.

Also, if Wellington's explanation is accurate of where she would be in her career, then by the time S3 hit, she should have  completed either her PhD or MD, or both by the time S4 hits.

We can only hope that she has indeed furthered her career, and -- more to the point -- that they actually TELL us about it!

Hi all - sorry for butting in with this.

Is anyone going to SHERLOCKED tomorrow who wanted a Benedict photo shoot but didn't get one?

I have two that I bought early on, then got a little impulsive and bought the 221b on set ones as well!!

If anyone is going and would like the Benedict photo-shoot tickets, I have two and would like face value for them (£45) otherwise I'll just get 2 pics I suppose but it would be nicer to share right! :)

I would suggest you also share that information on Twitter with the hashtag #SherlockedEvent

Lots of great pics and information coming out of the event via Twitter.  I have tons of photos swiped.  There's a big display on John Watson's army background including establishing his birth date as April 20, 1971.

Aw, we missed John's birthday!

I have not seen a similar display on Sherlock with pics like John's display.  Perhaps they will be forthcoming in the next two days.

Thanks for posting that, AngeleS -- and welcome to Sherlock Forum!  :welcome:  Now that you're here -- well, after the convention, anyhow -- we hope you'll stick around and join in the discussions!

Cool!  And sounds like they've finally given up on the totally unnecessary idea that John is in his twenties or early thirties (if that was not just a fan thing all along).  Wonder how they came up with April 20 -- is that another ACD-fan thing, like Sherlock Holmes's birthday being in January?

I have not seen a similar display on Sherlock with pics like John's display.  Perhaps they will be forthcoming in the next two days.

Hey, Sherlock gets lots more stuff than John does -- 'bout time John got some attention too!  :P

Yes, but the thing with John's display is that it had all sorts of childhood pics of him (real pics young Martin) and it would be great to see the same of Sherlock. Plus, rumor has it that somewhere on set at 221B that there is a childhood pic of Sherlock and Mycroft.

If anyone can get it over here (I'm on my phone so not about to figure it out) Claire Pritchard-Jones tweeted a link that showed a pic of Rupert Graves holding a mic so that the audience could hear Lars Mikkelsen doing the finger flick on someone during their panel talk.

Well, it looks like from all appearances that this first SHERLOCKED event is a rip roaring success!

Apart from the obvious being John and Sherlock. Molly Hooper, because she’s strong without needing to appear strong.
