That would make sense under the current conditions, wouldn't it?  But if you Google the two words together, you'll find that Holmesian is apparently the British term, and Sherlockian is the American equivalent.

That's the problem with show titles that are too perfect.  On the one hand, it's really obvious what a show called Sherlock would be about -- but on the other hand, the name has already been appropriated for a million other things.

Why would we have anything but slight confusion when it comes to names for our beloved Holmes fandom?  Even fans of Benedict Cumberbatch don't have 1 name for the whole of his fandom, why would we have 1 name for the fans of the character (in all of its inceptions) he plays?

Maybe it will be a question that comes up among fans at the convention this weekend.

I'm going to a panel talk with Benedict Cumberbatch, and since I'm not sure what to ask him (if I should be able to pose a question), I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion? You can pm me or write the question on this thread, and I'll pick one. In case I get it answered, I'll of course let you all know :)

That's a tough one! Hmmm... a Sherlock-related question probably makes the most sense, I suppose. Wow. I can't really think of anything clever. Can't be about future episodes, of course - we all know he'd never give away anything about them. I detest personal questions à la "how's your wife" (shudder) and when it comes to insights about Sherlock as a character, I'd probably rather ask the people who write him.

What I often wonder but I don't know if I'd ever really ask it if I had the chance is what it's like to portray such an iconic character and be so closely associated with the role. Is it a burden? Does it bother him when people address him or refer to him as "Sherlock"? I mean, as an actor, he's so much more... And if he could have freely chosen one of his many roles to be identified with, would it have been this one?

I'd be curious of the answer to that question too. I wonder if he would be very diplomatic and say something like, "Well, it's really down to the popularity of the show, which I'm happy about, of course". And "This role is as good as any to be identified with". But it would be interesting to see :)

I abhor personal questions to actors as well. Let them have their privacy, I say.

I have a bunch of questions related to the show, but I'd prefer to put them  to a panel rather than an actor.

However, I would like to hear him talk about what directors bring to him as an actor and how he learns and grows from their interactions.

I think a number of fans don't realize that "being friendly" with (face it!) a total stranger simply means things like smiling and saying hello. So they try to express their admiration by acting the way they would with a real-life friend. Assuming that they're already on a first-name basis is only the tip of the iceberg.

I once read (elsewhere) a discussion about what to say if one happened to bump into Martin Freeman. One person suggested putting him at ease by asking "How's Amanda?" I could only wonder how that person would feel if a stranger walked up to them and inquired about their family -- pretty creeped out, I would imagine!

Unfortunately, I suppose they're used to it.  :(

Well, if it was an actual bump, I guess I'd say "excuse me"... Otherwise, what is wrong with smiling and saying nothing? If I ever run across a celebrity anywhere (very unlikely, since I live in a hovel and visit nothing but hovels), I do hope I'd be able to refrain from screaming, fainting or otherwise drawing a lot of attention to the fact that some poor person was just trying to go about his / her business in peace.

Of course, if forced to interact at an official event, things would be different, but even then, I don't see what's required besides a smile, a greeting and maybe a "very pleased to meet you".

Asking questions about family I would say depends on the famous person.  My favorite musician I feel OK with asking about his family because he mentions his family a lot.  This includes his wife, kids, parents, & siblings.  However, I would not get too personal unless it was something he has already mentioned (ie someone was sick, ask how they are doing).  I once asked him which brother had food allergies since he mentioned that his brother had allergies & I knew he had 2 brothers.  If I did not know that he had had multiple siblings/brothers, I probably wouldn't have asked.

With Martin I can see asking about Amanda since she is also in the same industry and her name is out there.  I would probably hold off on asking about their kids especially on a first meeting.  I might ask the more generic 'how's the family?' especially if any thing was out there in a reliable source (BBC, RadioTimes, etc).  With Benedict, I'd keep it the same and if it's before the baby announcement, maybe ask about that but keeping it as generic as possible such asking if they are still waiting or how excited he was feeling about being a dad.

But back to the convention: I will hopefully be able to establish a blog within the next couple of days for me to post pictures and info on from the event. Might not be able to upload the photos before Monday, though, as I don't plan on bringing my laptop.

Dunno, I've only randomly crossed paths with a famous person twice so far, and both times I nodded respectfully and smiled and left it at that. Wouldn't chat up a stranger in public, no matter their celebrity status or lack thereof. But admittedly I wasn't a fan of either, and I don't know if I'd have the restraint if I ran across, say, Martin Freeman by chance. But then again shyness would probably kick in even if my self-control was lacking .

Oh cool :)

I am a bit surprised as to the three favourite episodes as voted by the fans... The Sign of Three and His Last Vow, in particular. Another fan poll, fairly recent, was taken and the link to it was posted on this forum... don't remember where... but that poll placed all series 3 episodes in the bottom. I guess it just depends on the context. Maybe they voted for the episodes they most wanted to watch again now.

When I (hopefully) meet Andrew Scott this weekend, I might add a "Moriarty is my favourite villain" :) but that's about it.

They've really gotten all the people to show up!  I just checked the site and the actors/crew attending really increased since last I checked!  If you meet Loo, I will die of jealousy.  Well, I'm dying of jealousy, anyhow, that you're even attending.

Don't think I will meet any of the actors except those I have a photo shoot with. Loo, unfortunately, isn't one of them. Considered adding her, but, well... I have to draw the line somewhere... hehe.

sherlockandjohn -- if you're at a Q&A with a chance to query Louise Brealey, maybe you could ask her this:  Is Molly a doctor (pathologist) or a lab technician or what?

Andrew Scott, Jonathan Aris, Clive Mantle, and Louise Breckon-Richards. They were included in a package deal. Which is something I will never buy again, should I be so fortunate as to attend a Sherlock convention at a later time. Now that I know I could have hand-picked each photo shoot, I definitely would have done that.

I will have the priveledge of going to the 'Ladies of Sherlock' talk on Sunday, so I'll be sure to remember your question! Funny, I somehow figured we knew she was a pathologist... but come to think of it, we're never told in the show, are we? So I must have picked that up elsewhere... possibly from fanfiction.

I thought the interwebz pretty well determined that Molly is a doctor, not a lab tech:

I see that someone has her Molly-facts sorted out :) Cool! I just wonder how anyone got a shot of her ID.

If you've got a good question for Mofftiss, let's hear it now... I'm racking my brain to come up with one.

That I don't know.  I can't verify where that picture/badge came from, although people seem to think it's authentic.

I'm sitting here racking my brain trying to think if I have any questions at all... and I'm all... it's as if my brain has turned to mush.

I know at least part of it was revealed I believe in ASIP. Beyond that, a full on pic of the badge could have been leaked with permission by someone behind the scenes.
