It sounded at one point like he was expressing an interest in working behind the camera.  While I can understand his interest in expanding his horizons, I do hope he doesn't mean instead of acting.  It's so frustrating to see someone listed as director when I'd really rather see them on screen.

I read/heard him mention that before. It's not unheard of for actors to do both, especially as the offers to be in front of the camera become fewer and farther between due to ... ahem ... the aging process .....

This would be completely unacceptable.

From the article smfpco linked to:

"we're filming a Christmas Sherlock special that's airing in January

So is there an official date now? And at the risk of being a nitpicker, but: How can a Christmas Special air in January?

Posted

Maybe that's just a misprint, they've been saying for awhile now that filming will be in January of 2015, haven't they? (Which is why everyone's so worried about the length of Ben's hair.... :D ) Or maybe I'm the one who's confused....

I noticed that too, and I suspect that he either misspoke or was misquoted.

However, they are on record as saying it's not necessarily a Christmas special.

Ben has said it will air in 2015.  It is also filming in January 2015.  It will be aired around Christmas but not necessarily be themed around Christmas (although Mofftiss does like a good Christmas reference!)/

After the last Christmas reference, I'm not sure I can take another one!

More of a general interest interview. There's also a video but I can't get it to play.

Poor Arcadia -- those videos really got it in for you these days!  :(

Actually, I'm starting to think there's something wrong with my CPU, or something. I'm starting to get a lot of weird problems with my mouse, the sound, videos, etc. Time for a visit to the laptop doc.

You know, as much as I love them, eventually Sherlock will wind up having to lose the curls.  I can't seem to see a 50 year old man with a mop top, so I imagine he'll eventually revert to something a bit closer to what BC says he prefers anyway.

Oh, good point!  Alex currently wears his hair a little bit long, but he says it'll get shorter over the years because he can't stand seeing old guys with long hair -- especially if they're bald on top!

As for Sherlock, I'd say it all depends on how he looks.  Some unfortunate people are ancient at 40, while others (usually the healthy ones) don't look particularly old at 70.

I can see Sherlock keeping the curls on top (assuming, of course, he winds up with curls he can keep up there!) but going for the close-cropped sides, making him a bit of a hybrid between the classic illustrations and what we are used to from Sherlock right now.

I really liked his look in HLV.  I hope we see some curls, even if it has to be wiglock.  If he wants to show cutting them off as part of the story, that's one thing but to just throw us short hair will be a shock to the Sherlock system.

I used to think I'd miss the curls but now I'm not so sure.  I've grown accustomed to Mr. Cumberbatch with his short, neat hair and I like it !

Wait, I thought it was his eyes we were obsessed with.....

I think we're obsessed with his overall looks...just because ;)

Funny -- I never noticed how his overalls look.

You'll have a lot of chance to consider his overalls when they do the beekeeping episode.
