I've said it before and I'll say it again ... if that plane hadn't turned around at the end of HLV, I don't think I could've borne it. I'd STILL be sobbing. Moffat can be an annoying git but a thousand thousand blessings be on him for that ending.

To be honest, I wouldn't have minded it ending with Sherlock going away...

This is one time I disagree with Steven, who I adore by the way.

I remember him in interview before HLV, saying: when you watch the end you'll be: oh, they can't end it there, oh they can't end it there either...

But I honestly didn't feel like that at all.

Hell, I would have been happy with them ending with Sherlock murdering CAM.

He seemed upset about that on the plane. Like he was silently breaking down.

 

 

When Mycroft phones him, he asks him "How's the EXILE going?"  Clearly that was part of it.  And yes, he was very upset on the plane.

I totally dismissed his statement as taunting Sherlock. I need to use my senses. Ever do I see but I fail to observe. I hear but fail to listen.

This was the mission Mycroft spoke about at Xmas, wanting Sherlock to decline.

Yeah. He loves his brother... But has a funny way of showing it sometimes. He did all that legwork to get him out of Serbia? But he also watched him getting beaten. He's brilliant enough where he could have thought if something to get him out. That Mike... Mycroft " do people really call him that?"

What puzzles me is why MI6 would be calling for Sherlock in the first place. Do they have a shortage of trained personnel? Oooooh, maybe they want Sherlock bumped off because .... uh ..... something.

What keeps me hooked? Well that's hard to say. I simply don't know. I've never been addicted to a tv show before. Well, there are a few films I love and have watched many times but never a tv show. It's kind of a unique mixture of great acting, writing, location and music together with British English (not to mention the voice). And maybe the fact that there are so few episodes is the reason why it makes me watch it over and over because if it had been like 20 episodes per series it would have lost its quality. And it wouldn't have been so rare and I wouldn't have been so excited about every bit of news about a new series.

Yeah.. You know the wait in between does build excitement. I would love it if it premiered on the big screen in a theater. That would be fabulous.

*Sigh*... I think it does - in the UK. I would so love to see all the episodes in a movie theater. I wish some cinema I could reasonably travel to would do a "Sherlock night".

 

I usually watch them on my teeny tiny laptop. When I finally got the chance to at least see three episodes on a big flatscreen TV as a special treat from the generous family who owned it, I was completely blown away. The merits of A Scandal in Belgravia especially didn't really become clear to me until I watched it "properly".

Completely agree with everythig that's been said so far. In addition, one reason I love the show is that I am a stickler for mind puzzles and for the badass genius-emotional sidekick duos... Also, I am a really blunt and logical person so some of the things Sherlock says really resonate with me.

Now I can also read Conan Doyle and hear Cumberbatch's sweet voice as I read Sherlock's lines, and totally imagine Freeman as he flirts with Mary. So good.

John with Mary... In the The Sign of Four he keeps trying to flirt with her when they first meet. It's really cute.

I know! I am glad they didn't end it there, although it definitely would have been a more poetic ending. The lovely, heartwrenching music flaring, the plane disappearing into the clouds, the last words being, "To the very best of times, John." It felt too easy with the "Jim Dandy to the resque" act. It is purely for my sanity's sake that I'm glad the plane turned around. But that's reason enough!

I don't know why so many people disliked that last part of the last episode. Personally I loved the whole "hope you enjoyedyour 4 minutes of exile" + the plane turn. I actually got butterflies in my stomach!

Yeah. I loved that too. I just wish it was something or someone else bringing him back besides Moriarty. The man blew his brains out. He wanted to be dead. Give him his wish... Keep him dead.

Mhm, I feel the same way. If the next episode was a month later or so, I might have preferred the sad, poetic ending, but for a two year wait? No way.

Sure, I see your point. But we also knew he'd survived in TRF, yet it was heartwrenching to wait for John to find out.
