Or she owes him. How does that work, since she's the one who more or less declined the invitation?

So the stairway is the one that owes them both? :p

He still owes her fish and chips.

I haven't seen her as actually declining the invitation. It just kind of evaporated during the stairway scene.

I think she's the one who made the actual decision.  They went out the door, he turned right (presumably toward the fish & chips shop), she hesitated -- and then turned left.

It's definitely too long between series, isn't it?  :P

Yes, way too long :D (And yes I understand why the wait so no need to try to explain it. I am a Sherlockian.)

Well, she would have to run after him.

If you invite someone and still have no answer, you usually don't dash away without even looking back. Even if you are Sherlock.

Well, technically speaking, he didn't dash off -- he merely strolled -- and Molly was right behind him, coming out the door.  If she'd just kept walking at the same pace and had turned in the other direction, she'd have ended up at the fish & chips shop right along with him.

Admittedly, he could have looked back.  But maybe he assumed she was still right behind him -- or maybe he picked up on some clue that we missed and knew she wasn't coming.  In any case, Molly didn't seem to think she'd been abandoned.

I think the clue was his "You can't do this again, can you?" followed by her "I'd love to, I just ...."    I consider myself fairly clueless when it comes to social cues but even I recognized that as a turn down. Molly, Molly, Molly, it was just fish and chips, you dear daft girl...... You can't imagine (well maybe you can) how much I wanted to grab her and shake her at that point. It's a meal, Molls, not a commitment! It's SHERLOCK, you nit, you haven't spent time with him in two years!!!! Gahhhhh!!!   :wtf:

Had she run after him, she would have been labeled pathetic for running after him. Molly literally now chasing after Sherlock.  She will never be able to do anything right with him to anyone's satisfaction.  Always something to criticize.  One moment some folks want her to slap him in that tender hallway scene, and when she does slap him in HLV, oh, that sets feminism back...can't win.

"Well, she would have to run after him." But she didn't and it was good.

It was - again - Sherlock who screwed the situation.

Plus - I don't take it too seriously. :)

I've always assumed that  "You can't do this again, can you?" refers to solving crimes together.

It does. But "I'd love to, I just..." is her telling him 1) no (which she's never done before) and 2) she has other commitments now, it wouldn't be fair to Tom to spend her spare time with Sherlock. I like to think of this as Molly being ethical, in spite of what her heart wants.

And sfmpco's right, if Molly had run after him everyone would be calling the show sexist. But I could still shake her for overthinking the situation and not just saying, "Yes, I'm starving!" and going with him to the frickin' restaurant. :P Because Sherlock looks so lonely walking away!

Shhhh, don't let the Sherlolly folks hear you say that.

I kind of think you're right though......

When I see him walk away in that scene and all that natural traffic whizzing by him.... I keep thinking... dang, that's Sherlock on the street.  Where is Setlock???  Why aren't those cars screeching to a halt?

Lol, I think the same thing. Why aren't the drivers slowing down to gawk? :D

Maybe it's a popular filming location for a variety of British works so it's old hat to them.

Or maybe they were seeing but not observing.

Or maybe they were actors too.

Isn't everyone with a British accent an actor?

Oh, right. Good point. :p

Well, at least everyone with a British accent is worth listening to, even if they read the phone book.

I’m not a shipper, and I would not be happy if any relationships in Sherlock move away from platonic, the platonic portrayal is brilliant so far. If I wanted to see relationship cliché drama, I would watch soap opera.

But, having said that, in regards to Molly, Molly is the only person so far that is suitable to end up with Sherlock, imho.

Relationship with Irene Adler might be exciting, thrilling, but they would cannibalize, trying to outsmart and manipulate each other.

Molly is smart enough (in Jack The Ripper case she was able to arrive at the same deduction with Sherlock, while John, while he is smart in his own way, under Sherlock’s pressure would probably conclude.” This skeleton had been dead for some time.”

She is crazy enough to look at Sherlock adoringly while the said person is beating up a corpse and all his other ‘normal’ activities.

She is sane enough to know what is good and not good, and doesn’t afraid to say so.

She is the only one who can read him well.

Her bedroom is Sherlock’s bolthole FGS.

Eventhough she is not included in the plan, it’s saying a lot. It is the place where he feels safe and secure.

Molly is kind, affectionate, down to earth and reliable. Sherlock is not.

Both of them together is.. balance to the universe?
