And now Moftiss' work here is done!

Molly is the best. She's so relatable but unique too. By unique, I mean she's a character we've never seen before except in ourselves - I think that applies to both men and women. There's that part of us who's shy but ever pleasing, always wanting to help no matter what, the part that feels unnoticed when really, it's what shines the most.

I agree!  She is the best!

To me she also seems like an idealisation of a fan. Adoring, but not even noticed.

And isn't it a fangirl fantasy to save your "hero"?

Once I read about two types of female in childhood and teen-years in reaction to 'idols' of the heroic kind.

1. Type A tends to imagine them as the hero's love-interest cum saviour. Their character's existence is tied with the hero's status like the moon needs sun to give it some glow.

2. Type B imagine themselves as the hero and off to save the world. They take charge and use resources available to the hero to try to influence the environment. They are the sun who blaze hot trail and carve their own way in the universe.

Guess which one is more likely to be called as 'alpha woman' in the future. Guess which character in SHERLOCK belongs to what type according to what revealed until the end of HLV.

Which one do you think Molly is, then?

There's also the thing about Alphas, Betas and Omegas. Alphas are the popular girls, Betas want to be Alphas, and Omegas are off playing another game altogether. I've got Molly pegged as a Beta, but a practical one; she knows it's not going to happen, but she hasn't figured out how to chart her own course, either.

Based on BBC's SHERLOCK, Molly is type A & Beta-the follower at the core.

I was just going to say that!  Moftiss have said that John is the audience's representative in the episodes, just as Watson has always been the reader's representative, and I believe that's quite true (although less in Series 3) -- but while John represents the general audience, Molly represents the fans.

Several of you have commented (on other threads) that Series 3 seems to be told more from Sherlock's point of view (whereas 1 & 2 had been more from John's), and I agree.  It just occurs to me that I've read/heard that the few Conan Doyle stories that are not told by Watson are among the least satisfying and the least popular.  And now I'm trying to remember, did I see/hear Moftiss say that?  Because if so, there would seem to be hope that Series 4 will revert to John's point of view (or, in the case of the Special, maybe Watson's).

I MUST read them then, since I like S3 best! :P

I don't know, I don't want Sherlock to slip away from us like John seemed to in S3. Maybe they can find a balance in there somewhere.

I know, tell it from Mary's POV! Equal rights for women!

This is SO very true.

All Sherlolly (I can't believe I just typed that) joking and discussion aside, I thought this was an interesting piece on Molly Hooper:

Liked the article, thanks for posting.

You know what bugs me right now. The name.

The evil Mo-s: Moriarty, Morstan, Moran, Mofftiss... Molly

Maybe watching that short movie with Louise wasn't a good idea... theusa_shifty.gif

From the article in IndiaToday:

Some characters like Molly and Jeanine were supposed to be one scene/one episode characters but they ended up being wonderful. And others like Billy Wiggins (the leader of the homeless network) and Tom (Molly's Sherlock lookalike boyfriend) we just loved. Basically, if we like them they will always return to Baker Street!

Well, it is how I felt about Molly.

I would love Billy being around in the future (BTW, if he really was the leader of the HN, than he must have been around in the junky hole to look over Sherlock. But personally I don't think so. Sherlock didn't even know his name).

Not so sure about Tom, though.

I could do without all of them except Molly, to be honest. I wouldn't mind Janine except that I think her primary function would be to hurt Molly. :( Unless she saw what was going on and became Molly's ally .... ooooh. I'd still like to see the women in Sherlock and John's lives bond and twine the boys around their little fingers. :D

That would be fun. It could make an interesting subplot to a story or series.

Done delicately, that could be a lot of fun.  I don't want Sherlock to have any serious on-screen romantic entanglements, but it would be fun to see Mary, Janine, and Molly get a leg up on the boys in some situation.  I don't know what it would be, but I keep seeing Sherlock and John running around to solve some mystery, only to end up at a bar with the girls all sitting there lifting a pint and saying "we figured this out ages ago -- where were you?"

Something like that, yeah. Don't forget Mrs. Hudson!

Well, I think a woman's intuition will probably outwit Sherlock any day.

I totally agree.  Molly can see through his emotional front, Mary knows when he's lying, Irene knows his intellectual weak points, and Janine just knows him.

Know when you're beaten, Sherlock.

Although I don't really think Janine knows him because he was putting on a front the whole time.  I think she just thinks she knows him.

I still can't decide about that. She saw a different side of him, but how much of that was faked, and how much of it was the real him without all the fronts he usually puts up? My guess is: we'll never know. :p

This is where I'm at.  Janine may have said she knows what kind of man he is and she may have gotten to know him some, but I don't think she really knew him.  I just don't think there is enough history there.
