I can totally see that. That would definitely be a gut-wrencher. I like Molly and want to see her around a lot longer. But I could see Sherlock definitely going through that type of loss. Ugh, the feels!!!

No, they cannot kill Molly.  You think Sherlock would be monstrous?  Just wait for the wrath of sitty if that happens!

Been wanting to do this.

Okay, I will keep the CRT broken monitor that I have for next season.

I can't decide if I think Sherlock would care or not.... if he did care about Molly and Lestrade, as in jealousy, then there's hope for Molly-Sherlock.  Because I'm pretty sure Molly would take Sherlock as-is, warts and all.

To quote BC: "There's always hope for Molly. That's the cruel thing." :p

I do not want to see the episode where Molly ends up with someone else and Sherlock regrets never making a proper move.  Gah!

Sadly, I think this might happen.

There is something else I worry about Molly as well.

Sherlock has gone through a lot of things, learning about friendship, sacrifice, sentiment, but he has not learned about loss of someone yet, forever, in Redbeard way.

It was close with Irene Adler, but eventhough he had the sentiment, it was still 'low-tar' because he didn't know her that well and it was also a fake death. No doubt, she was special to him, and he went nuts as far as Karachi and indirectly made him throwing people out of window.

But he knows Molly, and I think in season 3 they have much closer relationship and know each other very well. I believe Sherlock is very fond of her and appreciate her much more than previous season.

I have very strong feeling that they might go to this direction, that Sherlock is going to lose someone.

If he has to lose someone close, someone important, someone 'dispensable' to the story line, it's Molly.

I hope, Mary will be that someone instead of Molly. But Mary is John's sadness, Molly is Sherlock's.

The thing about Mary's loss being John's loss - Sherlock will have to deal with John's grieving as a true, empathetic and sympathetic friend, and he hasn't really shown those qualities yet.  And if Sherlock were to try the "let's just have an adventure like old times and forget the grief" type of attitude, that could put a terrible strain on their friendship.  Has Sherlock learned anything from his coming back after being undercover for 2 years?  Did he ever really understand John's grief?  Somehow I think that theme of grief is going to be revisited and that Sherlock is going to need to step up to the plate.

I do think there will be something Sherlock/Molly in S4 that is going to cause grief to one or the other.

I think, however, that a lot of this isn't going to come to a head until 4.3, and then we're going to be left bashing our heads against the wall and screaming and sobbing "Why, Moffat?  Why????" about something.

OMG... I never really thought about what John's poor face will look like if/when (assuming it follows canon) he loses Mary...

NO! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If they killed Molly, that would be the end for me. I would not go on watching the series, and I would try to forget the episode happened.

But I am sure they never will kill her. I don't believe they'll kill Mary, either. It seems they can't even bear to kill their villains. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that at least Magnussen will stay dead. (Although... only think how funny our Last Vow thread will be in hindsight if it turns out Magnussen didn't actually die!)

I'll be upset enough if they ever decide to "just" harm Molly. I really, really don't "ship" them, to the point where I avoid Sherlock / Molly fan fiction, but if anybody hurts a hair on Molly's head, it will only be justified in my eyes if Sherlock immediately goes ballistic and throws him out of a window - repeatedly.

I don't think Molly is dispensable as a character any more than anyone else.  We do know that Magnussen is dead.  Otherwise Mycroft wouldn't have referred to Sherlock as a murderer.

My gut tells me that will be true no matter what the plot line is! :D

HEAR HEAR!!!!! This, I would cheer for! In fact, I might even climb into the TV and help.

This is the same Mycroft who pretended he didn't know anything about the plans for the Reichenbach Fall when John confronted him. Nuh uh, I think Mycroft will say anything if it suits his purpose! (But I sincerely hope Magnussen is truly and sincerely dead, ding dong.)

That is from romantic angle. However, what will really give him a nasty shock that might make him is the loss of a constant in his life, someone who always there all his life and appear to be untouchable. Mycroft.

Posted

But they wouldn't ever kill off Mycroft, would they?  Would they?  He has such good verbal counterpoints with Sherlock...

Posted

They might if they choose the impersonal way. It will strip Sherlock off from his most powerful personal safety net. After that, it will either make or destroy him should he's incapable to modify his reckless behaviour.

They could accomplish roughly the same thing if Sherlock and Mycroft were not on speaking terms.  But then once that plot point was taken care of, they could patch things up.  I'd hate to see them kill him off!

Does he die in canon?  If not I doubt they will kill him off in the series.

Well, now, that's not any better! How about we kill off Anderson instead? :p

That, actually, I would like to  see. As much as I enjoy their relationship, I really don't like the implication that Mycroft can come riding to the rescue at any moment. It makes Sherlock a lesser person, imo.

Are they on speaking terms now? That's a pretty good solution, Carol, I'd buy it.

Mycroft is a very minor character in the original who only appears in two stories. He does not die - at least his death is never mentioned.

I very much doubt they'd kill Mycroft on Sherlock, because it would mean changing the way they write their stories. Mycroft is too convenient as a get out of jail free card.

Exactly, Mycroft is Sherlock's personal jail free card. He is Sherlock's main enabler in the 'I am a rebel without clue' act of his. In speaking term or not, it will take a major brain damage in order to change the super-doting-protector attitude. Remove him out of the equation then Sherlock will lost someone he feel pressured by and someone who let him keep treating the world as his own personal stage. He will be forced to think far into the future and examine a problem from all angles before making a decision. Say good bye to the naive black and white world, Sherlock, welcome to a world of greys.

They don't have to kill off Mycroft in order for Sherlock to reach that stage, though ... he just has to decide to grow up and become a real boy.

People don't change their attitude unless given reason for it. The allure of comfort zone is often too much for most.

Although I believe they would kill Molly, I don't want them to do it.

Also not Mycroft, the bickerings are so good.

Not Anderson too, I like him.

They should kill... uh.. the guy who said Sherlock didn't know ash?
