Awww, Pseud. Love Actually is actually one of my favorite movies.

Ah Arcadia. I'm afraid we can no longer speak. Farewell.

Seriously though - why? I just find it all so cheesy. What do you get from it? Genuine question.

At the risk of us not speaking again, I like Love Actually too, and I'm not a romcom fan at all. No. God no.

Okay, when I watched it the first time, I didn't feel it's that cheesy, although I admit on rewatch not long ago, it is cheesy.

Let me bash it first before giving my reasons of liking it.

It's cheesy, painfully predictable with some unrealistic plots.

But why I like it?

Yah, like Carol said, it's basically all kind of love, well, all the good kinds only, without those crazy psychopath stalker murderer possesive type of love, those fall into different genre I believe :p.

I happen to relate with one of the story. (Not Martin's one! :D) When that happens, the movie becomes tiny bit personal yah. Judgement out window maybe, but that what makes a movie memorable.

They do well in some of the stories, for example the grief of character played by Liam Neeson and the life of Laura Linney, I happen to know people who dedicate their life and sacrifice their happiness to take care of their love ones.

And I always like Colin Firth playing rigid and awkward character.

Also airport, personally airport is like that for me too. Happy and sad. Since my childhood until now that is airport for me. It's always a wonder how much a certain escalator, stair and barrier look and feel different to you, totally depends on whether you are happy to be there to meet them or whether it's time for separation again.

Side note:

Alien Covenant: 7/10

Didn't know it's a quardrology, didn't know it's a sequel of Prometheus. Only remember bits of previous Alien movies. So I went in blind.

It's what you can expect from an alien movie. I quite enjoy watching Michael Fassbender's (young Magneto) work.

King Arthur: 7/10

Went in blind as well. (I stay away from trailer now). I chose this one compared to Guardian of the Galaxy 2, because for some reason, the first one never grow on me. I thought I'd prefer this.

It's okay choice, but it's not memorable the moment I leave theatre, same can be said with other Guy Ritchie's work like Sherlock Holmes. It's entertaining just as it is, nothing more. I do like the music and the back and forth story telling, but the essence of story itself is seriously lacking. I have to admit some action bored me a bit I swear I had micro sleeps in between.

I really don't know ... I usually don't like rom coms or whatever either. But first of all it's genuinely funny (the Bill Nighy character is a scream), and I'm a sucker for sweet guys, which so many of them in this movie are. And what Van Buren and Carol said too; the idea that there's all kinds of love, and we're all better off for it even if it makes us act stupid, etc....  Things like that. I like movies that uplift me. And Hugh Grant always charms the socks right off of me. So, there's that. Gee, I guess I really do know why I like it, after all.

If it makes you feel any better, my sister doesn't like it either. And she's far more of a romantic than I. Go figure.

I dunno, that guy who turns up at Keira Knightley's door with the placards is at risk of tipping over.

I am not a fan of Love Actually either. The actors are great of course but I don't much care for the plot. It just doesn't click with me.

Hurrah, beginning to wonder if I was the only one!

Aw, he's my favorite one! He's so sweet! :p He's stayed away from her because he loves his friend as much as her, what's stalker-y about that?

That's okay, the fewer people who like this movie, the more I feel it was made just for me. Out of love, of course. Actually. :p

It's one of those things that seems okay in movies but if someone 'actually' turned up at your door with a load of placards... well, I'd be freaked out.

Hmm, trying to imagine that .... nope, I'd be swept off my feet. :d

I'd be like W... T.... F... are you doing?!

The thing is, with my luck they'd also look less like Andrew Lincoln and more like Gollum. "Precious to me you are."

Well, yeah, that's my problem as well. I hate to be so shallow but, really, can't the guys who approach me at least have a decent wardrobe? Makes me wonder what kind of vibe I'M giving off......

Yea ditto. I'm not expecting an adonis but someone who makes a basic effort and isn't weird would be nice.

Eh.. maybe the placards are a lot of showmanship, but the scenario is realistic imo, that is actually the one I relate to but a bit different of course. No placards, no demanding explanation as why would anyone crashing someone's house and insists on asking why someone is not liking/friendly with you?

I just thought it's a fall out friendship, we were not close anyway, so no suspicion either, intuition dead in this area, until nice heartfelt confession from his side when he was able to laugh about it years after when it's no longer awkward.

No what's his face but not Gollum either. :D

"Precious to me you are?" :lol5: is it a workable pick up line?

Did :Gollum: attend the same language class with yoda?

I suspect so. I think a lot of Welsh folk also attended since we tend to say things backwards a lot too. I often tell my mother she sounds like Yoda (speech patterns, not voice) by saying "Yoda you are."

'Precious to me you are' is a fantastic pick up line, impossible to resist.

Plot? There's a plot?

Yeah, what plot? Now I have to watch it again and see what I missed.

It's a very simple plot of all the stories getting mostly intertwined on Christmas Eve at a school play with all the characters (except for cue card guy, Thomas Sanger, & Colin Firth) getting to finally express their true feelings and/or make amends for screwing up (aka Alan Rickman's character) @ the production, then showing them again sometime later with how their relationships have progressed when they disembarked at the airport. The 3 exceptions expressed their feelings somewhere else, but Thomas' character was part of the school production.

Sorry, I was being somewhat facetious. To me, the intertwining is more of a gimmick than a plot, and there isn't *a* plot, there are a dozen or so. Which is fine with me.

It was a lovely movie and I was stuck with "how far I'll go" in my head for a few days

What books would you guys like to see made into films? My favourite author is David Gemmell and I would love to see White Wolf and the Troy trilogy on screen.

I saw The Dark Tower is coming out soon - I tried to read that but I find Stephen King's writing style, particularly for fantasy, very difficult to get into.

The Karter Cane books

OT pirates of the carrebean

dead men tell no tales 8/10

It was an absolutely wonderful movie!

If you are interested, stay after all the credits, there's something extra.
