Well it's that irresistible British accent that made them go wild ... ;)

Sidenote: I actually had to think a bit to remember what you meant. There must've been something in this film to distract me .

Oh. It took me a minute to think of that "something" you were referring to. Martin Freeman. You know, referring to that movie was a complete coincidence. I didn't remember right away that he was in that movie.

One advantage of season 3 being so dramatic is that it makes this episode look less over the top in comparison. I am beginning to really, really love it. It's absolutely beautiful, and the music is the best of the whole series, too. If they ever do bring Irene back (and I'm still not quite sure whether I want that or no), I hope they'll play her music first before we see her. First the moaning noise on Sherlock's phone, then the music, and then finally her. I know I'd squeal.

Sherlock in love is so touching. There's this lovely melancholy bittersweet quality about the whole affair from the beginning. God, there have been so many love stories in fiction, so many, and they still found a way to tell one that doesn't feel as if I'd seen it all before. One reason I don't want Irene back is that I really, really don't want the story spoiled.

Isn't it funny how John, who usually tries to chat up any half-way attractive female he lays his eyes on, doesn't seem to care two straws for Irene? He doesn't even seem to find her sexy. By the way, I just noticed that one of the texts Irene sent Sherlock was "John's blog is hilarious. I think he likes you more than I do. Lets have dinner." Maybe it was Irene who was jealous of John, and not the other way around? John doesn't seem jealous to me, just concerned for Sherlock, as he well might be.

I agree, it's just a gorgeous episode to look at, in spite of some of the problems I have with the story, it's absolutely one of my favorites. I agree, to have Irene come back risks spoiling the perfection of this episode, I'd rather they didn't go there.

I always thought John took an instant dislike to Irene because she so clearly dismisses him right at the start as any kind of challenge. Her sole focus is on Sherlock, she doesn't think John is worthy of her attention. That would sure turn me off!

I agree. Love this episode. The embarrassed Molly & the Sherlocked Irene. Those scenes got the biggest emotional responses from me & they're in the same episode. Soooooo, Yeah.

But I would emplore you two to watch the scene with John on the couch with Irene again, when Sherlock gets tongue tied. John is into her. She just makes it clear she's more into Sherlock.

She's only into Sherlock at this point because she needs to be playing him. Maybe she does fall for him later. But this early on? Naw.

I think John, in his macho manly way, tried to show off for her a little bit in that scene, in order to soothe his macho manly ego. But I don't think he was any way "into" her. Maybe if she had encouraged him, but she didn't. She ignored him.

I don't agree. I think John was really attracted to her. I mean... He is best friends with Sherlock. Also she had been building an interest for awhile now. She saved him at the pool. " I think its time, don't you?" Implies a lasp of time.

None of us have personally met Sherlock, but his intelligence is truly sexy & we're drawn to him. How many detective stories about him do you think she might have read during that time?

Posted

Oh no, we''re not saying that John wasn't attracted to Irene, not at all. What we are saying is that John was of no interest of Irene. Her target was Sherlock. She saved the both of them at the pool because she had that code that Moriarty wanted broken and he knew that Sherlock was up to the challenge. Which, when it was accomplished would destroy both Sherlock and Mycroft in one fell blow.

Well, I am saying that John was not attracted to her! Except in the sense that many men can't help but preen a little bit in front of a sexy woman. But I think primarily he was suspicious of her (with good reason) and annoyed by her assumption of superiority. Or maybe it was me feeling that way on John's behalf.

I think its the latter. You feeling that way on John's behalf. He tried to take " Althea " out on a date, & she wouldn't give him her real name, and for all he knew @ the time, in his mind anyway, that she was the assistant of a master criminal mind who was Sherlock's ultimate enemy.

The man obviously will get it if he can. Weather he's rejected or put in danger by some chic. He's a very silly man when it comes to women, until something tragic happens obviously. Well wait... He married an assassin. <_<

See what I mean?

I don't necessarily see that those two are related. Just because John generally likes women, it doesn't mean there are no women who could turn him off. It certainly seems to me that Irene does, though I suspect it's because of her treatment of Sherlock more than anything. When paying Irene a visit, he does seem to be allured by her, but that quickly passes when she starts messing with Sherlock.

Exactly he was initially attracted to her. I think he even liked the idea of her & Sherlock getting together. Hamish... If you're looking for baby names. The slight smile on his face when she sneaks into Shirls bed.

Couldn't of disliked her that much.

Ah yes, there's that scene :) That was weird. Well, I doubt he hates her, but I also doubt that he likes her very much. Probably just found her sexy, but didn't like her person.

I interpreted that as him being snarky .... they're pretty much acting as if he's not in the room, so he sticks in a smart ass comment to remind them he's there. That line or a similar one is a bit of a trope (but of course I can't think of an example when! :D ) that is used sarcastically, normally.

Just speculation... but what do you think was in Molly's Christmas gift to Sherlock?  What  in the world would she have gotten him???

Well, in some interview a while back, the actors claimed it was a mankini, but I refuse to believe that. So, lets deduce!

Here's the evidence:

First of all the package is small and flat, which rules out a number of things. It's also rectangular, so either a book or a box. If a book, it'd have to be a pretty thick one, and the package, as I remember it, did not seem heavy enough. So something in a box.

Hmmm... does anybody remember whether it rattled? Did Sherlock shake it?

I don't know. Maybe a petri dish?

With a really fascinating culture already in it! :D

Now, that I think about it. I don't think John was being snarky. I think he was being caught up in the moment of Sherlock Adler chemistry.
