I know there was a concern for a while with foxes coming through the channel tunnel. And rats presumably.

Americans are soft, we get numbed for everything except cleaning. Thank God.

I will say, the numbing process is not the nightmare it used to be. Smaller needles, I suspect. But also they have some sort of thing they spray on before the shot that begins the numbing process, so you don't feel the needle nearly as much. And I don't know if they're using less novacaine now, or something new, but it wears off a lot faster. So all in all, going to the dentist isn't the nightmare it was when I was a kid in the Dark Ages. More expensive, though; I've needed some dental work for years now, but can't afford it. :(

Was? But not anymore? Because it didn't happen? Or because they did something to prevent it? Installed cats?

You think a cat could take a fox?!

Grimly the concern now seems to be more about refugees coming through than foxes. There have been some gruesome accidents when people have tried to enter the country that way.

Luckily our dental work is subsidised by the NHS, so you have to pay a bit but nothing like what it would cost to go private.

I don't know how typical this was at the time, but my first dentist (I was a little kid; he was elderly) didn't use any anesthetic for drilling. The first time I went to a younger big-city dentist, I was amazed. Not only did he use anesthetic, but if the old dentist had had that nice new type of drill, I wouldn't have minded the drilling nearly as much without it.

Was the old one using this? ;)

I think I've blanked out the memory of what drills were like back when. Noisy, I remember that.

Depends on the cat. My Chula could've taken one, easy. All 24 pounds of him. On the other hand, he probably would have been terrified of a rat and left his little "sister" to deal with it. She would have too; all 10 pounds of her.

That's gruesome about the refugees. Imagine being so desperate that you would even try something like that. I see where's there's been another incident of boat people drowning, too. Sometimes the world is overly cruel. :(

Those are heavy cats, my two girls only weigh three and four pounds. My boy cat is probably heavier, though not sure how heavy he is. He's all fluff.

I haven't seen anything about a boat accident?

I believe that my childhood dentist had a drill from just before the air-turbine era (mentioned here), which he'd presumably had since who-knows-when.  According to that Wikipedia article, it probably rotated at about 1% the speed of today's drills, so of course the drilling took forever.  Plus it felt like a jackhammer (i.e., you could feel strong vibrations).  And he had to stop now and then to let the drill cool down.  And yes, it was noisy.  But at least it was electric!

This isn't exactly a rant, more like a hope-they-know-what-they're-doing.  I just read that Harvard now has a "Black Commencement" and a "Latinx Commencement."  I put those in quote marks because upon closer reading, there are apparently no diplomas handed out at these events, just commemorative stoles -- so they're not actually commencements, more like graduation parties.  But they had me scared for a minute there.  I thought, segregated commencements?  This is progress?

I hope nobody ever decides it'd be really cool to hand out the diplomas at these events.  Might be a good idea to call them something other than "commencements," just to avoid that temptation.

Seems a strange idea even having separate parties to me, but maybe it's a cultural thing that I don't get.

How is it that Sherlock's uber pale skin looks like marble where as mine, wearing shorts for the first time in the year, looks veiny and as appealing as a raw chicken?

On his entire torso and back though?

Suppose it's possible. Likely even. Ah well, I'll just have to rock my raw chicken legs and pretend I'm oblivious to their veiny-ness.

My brother used to refer to his early-summer pale skin as "fish meat."

Yup, I think that could cover the state of me too.

It's 3AM and some tit outside keeps beeping their horn. Luckily I'm awake anyway, but it's still annoying the hell out of me.

Show them your raw chicken legs, most probably the cars and their owners would run away screaming like little girls. :p

Ha! I already had to venture out once, with my full on crazy cat lady hair, wearing a big fuzzy dressing gown, and probably terrified the poor bloke who happened to drive past at that moment and saw me lurking in the darkness.

I have three, and she has three in that gif, so yup.

I think she already throws Lisa a couple of cats before that. Maybe not this scene but others. But eh... why I am arguing about that?

I'm certain the crime rate in your area should be quite low then. XD

What, if I emerged throwing cats every time I spotted someone lurking?
