Wasn't there something said at Sherlocked USA about the Sherlock team working on another updated classic? I wonder which one. I so hope it's true. My brain is working on a wish list right now...

What would you like to see? I can't think of anything. I am braindead this evening though.

Just finished binge watching Breaking Bad, so now I'm up on all the pop culture references for the moment.

How do you find it?

Do you have favourite moments?

It's been years since I watched it, and haven't rewatched (and don't feel the need too) but it's one of my top series. I like the details, careful plots but the character development, color schemes (do you notice that?), although there are unnecessary plots

Marie being a kleptomaniac never really pays off

.

Couple of great moments on top of my head now.

The bathtub, atm, and Jane's incident earlier in the series. Later, turtlehead, Gus half Harvey, Hector's bell, I'm the one who knock, tighty whities, trailer escape, the video, Ozymandias and events lead to it, and many others.

And I have been saying this to everyone who watches it, it all happens because of vegetarian bacon. Seriously! Vegetarian bacon! I'd rather munch grass. :P

.. and The 100.  One of my students last semester recommended The 100, and it's not bad, but Mr. Boton has really gotten into it.

 Argh.. I hate 100.

Let it run for a few episodes in the background but couldn't take it anymore. I actually like the story idea, but the execution, the acting, none of the characters are likeable, emo teenagers..argh.!

Absoletly me too.

Finch, clever man.

Root, fantastic.

Reese, interesting.

I love all of them.

Yes! The soundtrack, the story, and how realistic it is in a way.

Don't forget Bear!

Very first episode. Skylar gave it to WW so he would always be healthy. Ironic.

I enjoyed Breaking Bad, I watched it all, but I hated Skylar and Walt Jnr. I found them irritating beyond belief.

Favorite BB moments?  Those you mentioned, definitely, but I think my very favorite moment was in the last season when they are cooking this beautiful, beautiful meth (I mean, it's clearly prop meth, but it is such a lovely shade of blue coming out of these nozzles into the curing pans), and the soundtrack is Crystal Blue Persuasion.  I laughed out loud and told Mr. Boton that I couldn't believe it took them five seasons to use that song.

The 100?  Yeah, third season now.  Mr. Boton is hooked, and I have lost interest, but I told one of my students I'd watch it, and I'm bloody well going to make good on this.  Emo kids for sure, but at least it is a show where they are trying to take charge of their own lives.  However, that generation is going to need a lot of guidance when the zombie apocalypse comes for real!

I think that's part of the terrible, sick beauty of the setup of this show, is how WW's life has gone slightly-to-completely wrong in every conceivable area.

Pretty wife, but personality like fingernails on a chalkboard and not his first love anyway.

Nice son, but injury at birth creates CP, which is expensive and worrisome.

Finally get son almost grown, wife gets knocked up so you have to go through the whole childrearing mess again.

Smart enough to help launch a company that would one day be worth billions, but an early breakup with a girlfriend means walking away and having that haunt you from the news the rest of your life.

Brilliant mind for chemistry, stuck teaching covalent bonds and stuff over and over and over to a bunch of bored high school students for $43K a year, necessitating second job at car wash.

Stuck for eternity in the same 1970s nightmare starter home you bought when you were first married.

I mean, the wonder is that WW waited until he was in his 50s to give up and start cooking meth.

And then, the show is written well enough that you have a guy who is working with drug king pen mass murderers cooking industrial quantities of an illegal substance and substantially contributing to the international drug trade, and the person you really hate in every episode is his wife!

I found them annoying to the point of wondering if I really wanted to keep watching though. I did, but there were times she got to me so much I debating giving up. Then Walt would do something brilliant and I'd stick with it. :D

I watched it years ago, but the moments that really stick out for me are:

The one who knocks, Gus dying, and that moment where he blows up the drug dealers office.

Has anyone watched The Wire? That's another one of those epic must-watch series that people talk about and I haven't seen.

I heard they compare The Wire to be as brilliant as BB, but haven't watched it, need to have committed time and mood.

I dislike Skylar too, Skylar and Marie to be precised. And WW's carwash boss with horrendous eyebrow XD. Jessy, sometimes I like him sometimes my inner WW was egging him,

come on Jessy, if you want to do something wrong, do it right! You can contemplate morality too much for the path you have chosen. But then of course, he is right to be.

Another good moment I recall:

Pink teddy significance almost all season long.

Pizza on the roof.

All Mike.

Also, do you guys watch the spin-off, Better Call Saul? About Saul Goodman, their shady lawyer. I've only watched first season, it's quite good, same style. Haven't gotten into second and subsequent (if any) season.

I was going to ask about Better Call Saul, drove past a poster for it earlier. I haven't seen it, it was on my 'to watch' list on Netflix, but I never quite drummed up enough interest to actually start on it.

Hmmm, can't get to it to see what it is. But if it's about a TV show, you're probably in the right place.

While mine is smart enough for that app, I deleted it ages ago because I didn't feel like using it.

Have we already come to the conclusion no one watches Game of Thrones (except me)? I can't remember if that's a show that's come up or not.

I am pretty sure you're not the only one but can't off the top of my head say who else. It's certainly too much for me. Way too much cruelty and gore, I just can't stomach it.

I don't really see the point in creating a fantasy world if it's just as bad or worse than the real one.

What do you like about GoT? How / why so you find it enjoyable?

I have friends who are fans and I follow the show with similar feelings as those with which I follow the news.

Honestly I tried watching it about three times before I finally got into it. I hated it in the beginning because all the women seemed so cowed or beaten down, in the first episode one of the main characters is groped by her brother and then effectively sold in exchange for an army. Now though she's the most powerful character on the show, and because she started at such a low place it really makes you cheer when she does something epic.

It is brutal, but the violence doesn't bother me that much, there are only a few scenes that have made me cringe. All the sex and nudity makes me roll my eyes a bit, I think that's pretty overdone, but I can overlook it.

What I really love are the creatures, which are becoming more important as the series progresses. The dragons are brilliant. The white walkers (effectively zombies) that are out in the frozen wilderness but heading south are terrifying. I think mainly it's the vastness of the world and the number of characters, plus the fact no one is safe, main characters get killed off so often you can't trust anyone will be okay.

The way the last season ended was the polar opposite to how it all began - instead of it all being about men and kings, we now have three queens battling it out. Plus Danaerys, the one who was sold in the first episode, is probably one of the most badass women I've ever seen in anything.

I haven't been able to get into the books, but it reminds me of the type of books I do like, where there are a wide array of characters and things are pretty brutal and bloody. I like the fantasy mixed with a medieval sort of feel, especially when you throw in some beasties.

VBS and Caya are, or were, fans. Some others too, I think. I'm like Toby ... too squeamish. I love the concept but can't stomach the violence.

Who's the third queen? Cercei, Dany and...?

Don't you think a few chars are safe though, at least until very near the end? Jon (already once revived), Tyrion, Dany? The series would loose too much appeal for many, I think, if one of those were killed off early.

I agree about the dragons, btw. They're who I am really rooting for.

Yara Greyjoy, since she stole most of the Iron Islands navy. Though she's joined with Dany, so she's less of a contender and just an ally. I know I would hate to see those characters killed off, but when Jon died the first time I was torn whether he'd be back - his storyline didn't seem to have gone anywhere, which made me think he would, but then it was a surprise when they killed off Ned Stark since he was the main 'star actor' at that point.

I want Dany and Jon to join up, and go on a big White Walker killing spree.

Since Jon is a Targeryen presumably he can ride dragons too?

And, of course, I want Cersei dead asap. Yes she's a good villain but I'm getting a bit tired of her scheming.
