Loved it loved it loved it! (have I said that enough times) I'm a huuuuge trekkie and I'll admit that I was dubious about J.J. Abrams reimagining it. But if I was impressed with the first one then this one blew me away. Khan has always been a favourite ST character for me and I'm so happy they brought him back in these movies. And I also loved the way that they twisted it around at the end!!! Stunning!!!

 

 

However I can't believe that Pike dies! Just no! They'll come up with some way to bring him back I'm hoping, because he's always around in the original movies!

He was in the pilot episode of The Original Series (which was dropped as it wasn't liked) and then in episodes 11 & 12 which was a two parter. "The Cage" and "The Menagerie" played by first Jeffery Hunt and Sean Kenney. If I'm right, he if who Spock served under for 11 years before moving to the 'Enterprise'

really like Bruce Greenwood, I hate that they killed off Pike! And no, I can't recall that he was in any of the original movies either. As far as I know he's still happily dreaming on that weird planet. Actually, being dead in the new 'verse might be better.....

When you said "[Pike is] always around in the original movies," were you talking about the first reboot movie?  I really liked him in that.  But I thought you meant the original-cast movies (e.g., ST: The Motion Picture, Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock, etc.), and I don't recall him being in any of those -- though as you say, he's a major character in The Cage, later reworked into The Menagerie.

This news hit me really hard, and I'm sitting here crying.  The original Spock may be my all-time Very Favorite Character, and I am so grateful that the reboot people figured out a way to include Leonard Nimoy's portrayal in their space-time continuum.

If anyone in the US has the cable premium channel Epix, in just over an hour they are doing a 15 min thing called Conversation with Leonard then they are playing the last film he was in (according to IMDb) Star Trek Into Darkness.

Watched it yesterday. Well, good made ST movie, but I'm glad I didn't buy it. YouTube has the most important pieces with original voice, I can live with the German version I recorded. 

 

I actually expected Ben having more on screen time. But, oh boy, he does make an impression, even if I wonder if he would do better playing Khan more reserved and not so... shakespearean. He reminded me of Smaug. 

 

Are we sure Ben's genes are 100% human? I had my doubts. 

 

 

And I wondered all the times if he wears contact lenses. His eyes are so different, even in this pic below. But it might be just the lighting.

 

 

I liked they made his brows darker - that's what sometimes bothers me in Sherlock's looks: the brows should naturally be at least as dark as hair.

 

For that matter - my old eyes were constantly distracted by a little detail. The short version of Sher-neck-lock.

 

 

I've heard hairdressers would love that 

 

I couldn't help but see that in the story the Spock-Kirk relationship somehow mirrored the one of Sherlock and John. And how Spock managed to excel himself by being led by emotions.

And even as Khan Ben couldn't resist sneaking a coat, to make him looking cool with the collar, the cheekbones and all...

As for that, one can only guess. I read that it was supposed to take place right after Khan was brought into the brig (the cells apparently have a small bath to the back and right). He wore this cloaked outfit on Q'onoS and basic Fleetwear afterwards, so maybe it was simply to explain the change of garb, or to show how little fear he had of Kirk that he calmly stripped and showered, or maybe show him in a private moment, digesting that his people were, in fact, still alive. Not sure why it wasn't a sonic shower anyway.

Well they already had Kirk in his undies earlier (and in the first movie as well, for that matter) so they were good in regards to the Almost Nekkid Guy quote by then :D.

Star Trek Into Darkness has got to be one of my favorite movies of all time. Not only because it has Benedict in it, but also because I love the idea of space travel. Ben did make such a terrific villian didn't he? I'm secretly hoping they bring Khan back in the future. Actually, you cannot see Khan as a real villain. He was MADE the way he is.

Yes, I think he should have been nominated for best supporting actor for STID, but sci-fi in general seems to never been taken seriously in the acting categories.  Not sure why.  Why isn't someone's performance just as credible in sci-fi as in some big drama?
