I haven't had the issue with posts or parts of my posts missing. Also not had the original issue Carol mentioned, but then I don't use Chrome on my phone.

With crossposting, I normally get email alerts when a response is posted so I'll have that pop up on my laptop whilst I'm typing. Usually I get an email alert and then a message on the forum about a new reply being added. Sometimes the alerts don't come up until after I've clicked post. I still get the emails on my phone, but they are not so precise since my phone only checks for new emails every ten minutes or so. The only time crossposts bother me is if I'm embroiled in some kind of heated debate or argument, otherwise it's just one of those things.

If you guys are staying in a hotel, do you unpack your suitcase?

Posted

Put stuff in the drawers, you mean? Nope. Though I do hang things up, and set my toiletry bag on the bathroom counter.

Yea. I don't understand people who get into a hotel and unpack everything into drawers. I never unpack anything, but then I'm a really light traveller so maybe that has something to do with it - I rarely take more than a backpack.

Huh, just read that the Prime Minister signed a deal today for £1.6bn to be invested in the city where I live. That's rather a lot.

I suppose if I were going to be staying for a good long while, I might unpack.  But then again, I don't generally bring a lot of clothes anyhow, I do laundry about once a week.  So maybe not even then.

Come to think of it, do you know for sure that *anybody* ever unpacks?  Maybe those drawers are just for show?

Nope. But I've read a couple of fics recently that have John unpacking everything the second he gets into a hotel room, and then I was watching a vlog on Youtube, and the girl on there unpacked everything as soon as she checked in and it just threw me. I definitely can't see John unpacking everything, as an army guy I'm pretty sure he'd be fine living out of a bag - especially since he doesn't dress like Sherlock, who's suits would need to be hung.

I stay packed except for dresses, those get hung if/when they have to be brought with.

I generally don't unpack in a hotel unless we're *really* going to be staying a while.  For a week-long vacation, I'll put things like my book and my nighttime comfort items in the night table drawer, and I tend to put whatever bathing suits or whatever I need into a drawer for easy use, but the rest of the clothes stay in the suitcase and I pretty much rummage around.

When we stayed in a condo for two weeks, I did unpack almost completely the first night, but we also went to the grocery for food and assembled our bicycles, so it was more like moving in.

Mr. Boton is an over-packer of the first order.  He will stuff his suitcase to the weight limit, then spend the entire week wearing his favorite fishing shirt (he doesn't really fish...) and then washing it out every night.

There seem to be a flurry of 'posh boy' fics, were people not aware he was posh before or is it just the phrasing people liked?

Eh?

What are you smoking?

Regarding unpack.

Short stay, no, but I hang my shirts/tops or whatever.

But most times I travel with one backpack, and I use that for daily movearound/work, so I would put the rest of my cloth on the shelf (hardly drawer).

But when I stay for longer period (a week or more) especially in hotel with facilities (more like service apartment) then yes, I'd put and arrange my clothes, socks scarf coat etc in the drawer, especially when I do laundry.

But I always check the drawer and I am quite a racist drawer-ist :p, as I am very suspicious and have to check twice for the cleanliness of dark-colored drawers. But I assure you my racism is limited to drawer. :)

...What's confusing? He (Sherlock) was called a posh boy (by imaginary Mary/ really John) and now there are all these fics with him being called posh boy - as if people weren't aware of it before. So is it just that people like the phrase posh boy, or were they not aware he was posh before it was explicitly stated?

Oh I see.

I see that I really need S4 rewatch soon.

Eta: thot you were babbling about some crappily-named boyband for a while there. :D

Haven't the faintest. I suppose people liking the phrase is more likely since anyone who knows Sherlock well enough to write fan fic based on the show must be aware that he is pretty posh.

I'm wondering if maybe his accent isn't as painfully upper crust to folks from other countries.

But it's not just his way of speaking, is it? His clothes, his hair, his level of grooming, his interests, just his general "aura" is posh.

Yup, most just be the phrase people like then.

Shit, there's been a terror attack in London

Posted

I heard it, and that on the day of our memorial of a terrorist attack one year ago!

Is any of you living in England? Are you ok? I am so sorry. :(

Well, I'm in the UK but not England.

Oh geez, I just saw the news about London. I'm so sorry. This is so sick.

Yea :( 5 dead 40 wounded. Though one of those 5 dead is the attacker. Did they mention on international news that an MP was giving CPR mouth to mouth to the injured police officer who later died? Everyone seems pretty impressed that instead of running like all the other politicians he did everything he could to help.

I bet Trump will use this as stupid support for his anti-Muslim sentiments, he'll gloss over the fact the fricking mayor of London is a Muslim. I'm going to have to try to ignore any reports of stupidity coming from him, he can just butt out - these kind of incidents need people to band together, not use it as an excuse to spew yet more hate.
