Gatiss just makes jokes anytime anyone asks anyhow.

Like "Will I live long enough to see S4?"  "That depends on how long you live."

I think I saw a recent quote on Tumblr that I assumed was from the convention about the timeline from Gatiss... lemme see if I can find it...

Here it is... Gatiss, always so informational... lol.

"We are having a little chat upstairs later about series four. Which we are making in 2083"

He does like to tease. Somehow I don't mind it from him as much as, er, someone else.

He does.  I think that's what one of the things I like about him so much.

I loved this quote from him from Sherlocked:

"Contempt for the human race?"

— Mark Gatiss at Sherlocked ‘What traits of your character do you have?‘ - (x)

Posted

From the transcript:

Q: Do you feel free to act as you wanted to with Moriarty?

Andrew Scott: (I only noticed what tense he said this in while I was typing it up. Interesting…) I do feel free. We have a foundation we can spring from, create from. So I do feel very free and not like there’s one way to play the character. He is surprising so it’s important to be very playful. One of the things as an actor is to give the director as much choice as possible. What people look for is listening and playfulness, so I do feel fee.

This really makes me wonder. Because Andrew said something in the VIP talk (I'm still working on my report, be patient)... I actually don't remember what he said, but I remember my reaction: is he saying more than he's supposed to? It was something that made me think he is still a part of the project. But please, don't quote me. This is only a feeling and I could be totally wrong.

Of course a good bit of Moriarty's "participation" in canon occurred as flashbacks after he presumably died (and was never seen alive again).  So they could be modeling Jim's participation on that.

That is what I would suspect, just as they did in TEH and in the mind palace sequence of HLV.

Perhaps Moriarty appears in the Victorian special? He won't be dead yet in 1895... 'Course we'd have to wonder how he got to 1895, but the same is true for all the cast.

I am still so puzzled by this time shift...

I'd think he'd make some appearance as Moftiss said the special would answer the question of the "did you miss me?"

That's the thing about the Special that really puzzles me!  I mean, how could it?  Though it does appear that some of the Special takes place in the current day, immediately after "Last Vow," so maybe the "Did you miss me?" GIF is explained then -- so possibly it's a really simple explanation, kinda like the impasse at the pool at the end of "Great Game" being broken by Jim's cell phone ringing at the beginning of "Scandal."

So did they successfully squirrel Andrew Scott away, in that he wasn't seen on set (I don't believe) during Setlock?  Or can they explain it without Scott?

Maybe all of his bits were stage vs outdoor setlock.

Just because Scott wasn't seen at any of the setlock locations doesn't mean he isn't in the Special.  As you say, they could have snuck him in -- plus there was surely quite a lot of filming at sites that the fans could not monitor, such as the studio.  Considering what a hot topic Moriarty's death/survival is, they would likely have done whatever they needed to do to keep his participation a secret.

Dear fellow members,

From Vanity Fair November 2014:

If anyone still thinks that interesting, handsome face can be a curly-haired Byronic angel, they are welcome!

I never understand why actors have to be in these weird situations on the pictures. I mean.. "Look at me, just hanging out. Climbing a tree. I do that everyday, of course" I think it would be funnier to see them in their natural condition. Lying on the sofa with some cola and bags of crisps.  Anyone with me on this? :violin2:

Bit off topic, sorry.

I think they get told by the photographer, I don't think it's a personal choice.

I saw a behind the scenes on this shoot and the photographer has a bunch of ideas and works with the subject (in this case Benedict) to get the shoot done.

It's because some magazines, like Vanity Fair, are selling the clothes, not the actors. Fashion photographers want to show the clothes in action, preferably on someone famous so us slavish fans will rush out and buy that brand. Notice that "news" magazines are more likely to show actors in their regular clothes and more normal situations.

To be a little less snarky about it (I loathe fashion magazines, sorry) photographers are artists, artists are always looking for a new way to show us things. Like clothes. :P

Seriously, one can never win! It was not about clothes, it was about his Oscar nomination for the Imitation Game, on the opposite page there was the actual Oscar winner, and the brief article was all about two Brits at once trying to win the flipping golden statuette!

Maybe I'm misrembering, then. But I could've sworn there was a little label under each picture identifying (down to the socks!) what Mr. C was wearing. Perhaps that was a different Vanity Fair article?

Anyway, that's what the fashion mags do ... print articles to go with the pictures. But the money is in the advertising of the clothes. (And perfume, etc.) That's how they stay afloat. VF's pretty classy about it, though.
