We were wondering what happened to you! Pests pets are all fine, yours? :P

Yes, we're all ok, thanks - I left a little post in the Dr.Strange-thread. I try to find some more time by the weekend. Last weekend was awesome at Comic Con, so much to tell and catch up with, and still no computer at home...  :comp2:

Red dye #5?

Some kind of algae, yes, most commonly red and blue algae, although some crustaceans they eat contain similar pigment carotenoids.

I have some curator friends, they always have interesting stories. So in the park, they has two batches of flamingos. One is bright pink beautiful flamingos and the other batch is pale pink. The striking pinks are fed with their original food, but because it's more difficult to obtain, the other bigger batch is only fed small amount with some other subtitute food, therefore the colors.

Ehhhhh.... what kind of scary pretzel you are having? Is it related to this horrifying delicacy in Philippines?

Good God.

"They are often served with beer." Yeah, I'll bet. After many many beers.

I think I'd need plenty of morphine or cocaine before I'd eat that.

Back then, when an acquaintance felt fancy and brought us to Japanese restaurant, picked a menu (he genuinely thinks it's the best dish and wanted us to try it, without negative intention) that served half a fish still gasping for breath pointing up with its cut flesh from another half around it, I keep in mind to say to anyone that I want my food dead. Really dead.

But knowing balut, I have to add extra clause to the requirement. I want my food dead, featherless and faceless, and... adult..? Aiz.

It's times like this when I seriously consider going vegan.

o__O Eww. Japanese cuisines are so weird. Reminds me of the dancing octopus (begins at 5:30): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOVR8bvBZE0.

I highly recommend telling everybody you're vegetarian when you travel (even if you're usually not or not fully or not strict about it). I have never regretted it.

Oh yes, speaking as a vegetarian, I strongly concur.

Oh and can I apologise for my last outburst!

I have just returned to the forum and am madly trying to catch up on some threads...I forgot to scroll to the latest page on the various discussion!

I hate it when I do that. I carefully craft a reply to what I *think* is the most recent post, only to find that by now I'm either irrelevant or redundant.

I know y'all are trying to leave baluts behind (and can't blame you), but I must add that when I read "delicacy" and "Philippines," I knew better than to click on that link! I first heard the word from my junior-high health teacher, who was also a coach and had a locker-room mentality. I will NOT share some of his other stories! As for Japanese cuisine, I love it as long as I can find vegetarian dishes (and fortunately there's a really good veg-friendly place near here). You just gotta be careful to avoid their Klingon food!

Actually I like Japanese food because I like seafood, for basic standard non fancy stuffs of course. I enjoy fresh sashimi and had tried fresh raw prawn but again, everything has to be dead.

I also quite enjoy Philippines cuisine. Went there for a dive trip where we spent the day on the sea, so we'd bring packed lunch everyday. Normally the lunches elsewhere would be very basic, but in Philippine, they packed us very sumptuous lunch with multiple elaborate dishes. I remember my eyes got a bit teary because we normally always hungry on these kind of trip. :p

And another trip to part of Indonesia, Sulawesi, one of my friends wanted to visit the market during our last day. Luckily, the guy warned us that their market maybe different with most market. They sell dog meat, also live dogs. You know, like selling chicken meat where you can opt for fresh chicken and they can process it on spot on request... we didn't get down from vehicle.

I actually had tried some so called exotic food before, like snake (it actually good), bat (just a tiny pinch and it tastes awful), and I didn't know better, I was so young then, turtle eggs, (Tbh it was very good), kangaroo, crocodile (don't like it).

When I was on another trip to Malaysia we went to market and they sold live grub, those big fat wiggly worms. My friend wanted to try it if someone wanted to join. So I... of course not!! XD

I will never eat something that is still alive, I even avoid organic vegetables that are still attached to their growing media.

Most of the time food are fine, I always opt for something basic that I know before but I make sure people I go out with know my preference so I don't end up seeing that fish (still embedded in mind).

A baby squirrel monkey (one of my favorite monkeys!) made an unlikely friend when he was brought back home by a zoo director after being rejected by his mother.
