:wacko::unsure: Just what do you people think goes on at these conventions..... ?   ;)

I am so regretting that Silver Pass right now... If I had known it was possible to purchase exactly what I wanted, I would have just waited for the individual tickets. I am now stuck with three photo shoots I don't really care about, one that's okay, and only two I'm really excited about (a location set + Andrew Scott). I know, I shouldn't complain... at least I'm going, yada yada yada :D But I have also spent quite a lot of money on it... The information given at the time was very limited, and I had never expected that everything included in the Silver Pass would eventually become available for pick-and-purchase.

I'm going to a panel talk with Benedict Cumberbatch, and since I'm not sure what to ask him (if I should be able to pose a question), I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion? You can pm me or write the question on this thread, and I'll pick one. In case I get it answered, I'll of course let you all know :)

Yep, the information is not the best. I still don't know what my schedule is, and the answer to my email is that it will be posted at the website. I mean it's 3 weeks. Makes me even more nervous. vala_04.gif

Need a little advice.

For a fair in France I made myself a sticker with languages I speak and put it on my shirts. I've got some positive feedback for the idea (there is nothing more embarrassing than two people of the same nationality trying to communicate in a foreign language they hardly know) and would like to repeat this for the convention.

There is a line I use for fun when I'm confronted with heavy German dialects: "Talk to me with capital letters". (capital letters = speak slowly and clearly) I was thinking of "Talk to me with capital letters - I'm a foreigner" sticker. Does it make any sense in English? Is it at least a little little bit funny? Or would "my English - a bit not good" be better?

Much better! I'd go with that.

That's a tough one! Hmmm... a Sherlock-related question probably makes the most sense, I suppose. Wow. I can't really think of anything clever. Can't be about future episodes, of course - we all know he'd never give away anything about them. I detest personal questions à la "how's your wife" (shudder) and when it comes to insights about Sherlock as a character, I'd probably rather ask the people who write him.

What I often wonder but I don't know if I'd ever really ask it if I had the chance is what it's like to portray such an iconic character and be so closely associated with the role. Is it a burden? Does it bother him when people address him or refer to him as "Sherlock"? I mean, as an actor, he's so much more... And if he could have freely chosen one of his many roles to be identified with, would it have been this one?

As the first Sherlock fan convention takes place in London next weekend, Louis Barfe takes a look at what happens when the stars meet superfans face to face at these very special events....

Wow -- "superfans" -- is that what we are?  Or only the ones who actually go to the cons?

Hadn't heard that term before :)

What I don't like, though, is this:

Some call themselves Cumberbitches, while others prefer to be known as Cumberbabes.

I prefer neither. Sherlock-fan or Sherlockian for me, please. The Cumber-related names are so personal, it feels to me as invasion of Benedict's private space.

But back to the convention: I will hopefully be able to establish a blog within the next couple of days for me to post pictures and info on from the event. Might not be able to upload the photos before Monday, though, as I don't plan on bringing my laptop.

Besides which, the author of that article doesn't seem to know the difference between Sherlock fans and Cumberbatch fans.  While there is clearly a good bit of overlap, it's still ludicrous to equate the two.

Oh, cool -- looking forward to that!  Just be sure to post the URL here!

The closest I get to a Cumber name is CumberCollective which includes all fans of Benedict's without respect to gender.  It also encompasses bein a fan of his work in addition to Sherlock.

Look forward to seeing the pics once you get them loaded.  If you have a smart phone, some blogging sites allow for mobile uploads.

Yeah, I'm okay with Cumbercollective, for the same reason. It sounds like we're a bunch of pod people from Invasion of the Body Snatchers but since that's one of my favorite old movies, I'm fine with that. :D I think Cumberbabes is even worse than Cumberbitches; at least the latter is a play on words. So lazy for reporters to keep referring to it for a cheap laugh.

Am I a Sherlockian? I'm only a fan of the one version ... well, no, I loved Brett and Rathbone in their day. Oh! I guess the fans of Holmes in general are called Holmesians???

Depends on what country you're from, I think.  The UK uses one name, the US uses the other, and I have no idea what the case is anywhere else.

I always thought Sherlockian referred to the BBC show and Holmesian was either the original ACD stories and a lot of the early adaptations or all of the Holmes Universe from ACD to Modern.

That would make sense under the current conditions, wouldn't it?  But if you Google the two words together, you'll find that Holmesian is apparently the British term, and Sherlockian is the American equivalent.

That's the problem with show titles that are too perfect.  On the one hand, it's really obvious what a show called Sherlock would be about -- but on the other hand, the name has already been appropriated for a million other things.
