So, PlaidAdder is essentially correct when she says that she wouldn't trust Mr Moffat if he told her water was wet, and the grossly overweight Duke of Cumberland made a serious strategic mistake after Culloden to let the Scots live! If he had gone on a genocide rampage, ( no atom bombs available) there would not have been a Scots fiend to torture the fandom!

But do remember, Inge, that nature abhors a vacuum -- so there will never be a fiend vacancy, even if no Scots are available and they have to outsource!

In all fairness to Mr. Moffat, he doesn't tell us how to write our fan fiction -- so why should we get to tell him how to write his?  ;)

Fair enough... But still: LEAVE MOLLY ALONE! If they hurt a hair on her head, I will turn absolutely monstrous. Molly is sacred.

Interview with Sue Vertue by Louis Moffat

It was a most interesting read and we have discussed most if not all of them on here at some point.

I'm trying to figure out exactly what constitutes an "Easter egg."  I would be more inclined to call some of their items the details of an adaptation -- e.g., "Study in Pink" is of course an adaptation of (or a take-off on) Study in Scarlet, so it should be no surprise that the murderous cabbie has the same name.

That was my thought when I read the article.  Not that my brain would think to include that in my previous reply.

I think the reason they included the murderous cabbie was because his name wasn't revealed until the credits... to it became an Easter egg - a hidden bit.

"German national sport" --- :lol5:

This thread seems to have evolved into a home for any and all BBC-Sherlock-related miscellany, so I have renamed it accordingly -- and moved the last few posts into it.

Please note that the thread "Holmes-related Miscellany" is intended for miscellaneous tidbits related to the original Conan Doyle stories and/or other adaptations.
