thinking-skype-smiley.gif Mark Gatiss is in the list of Top Series Cast
Posted

I'm not really surprised that he's not listed given we never saw him in costume.  Although, I find it odd they would leave him out since he's an original character.  Molly's not original and yet she found her way to Victorian England.

I'm now analyzing setlock pics to see if he dyed his hair earlier this year.  That should tell us for sure.

This photo his hair looks dyed, so that's hopeful:

I would bet he's in it.  Why else dye his hair?  Probably just filmed his scenes in the studio so we never got to see him in costume.

Also, bear in mind that what's posted on IMDb may or may not be official.  As I understand it, any member of that site can post information, so there tend to be a lot of educated guesses, especially before a production is actually released.  Since we never saw Mark Gatiss in costume for the Special, no one would have had reason to assume he was in it.  Likewise Andrew Scott, and if he's in it, that would presumably have been kept very hush-hush.  However, even if either or both of them are not in the Special, they (especially Mycroft) will presumably be back sooner or later in the regular episodes.  Maybe Donovan too -- they haven't written her out of the show, and she certainly adds something to the mix.

Here are some observations on the new trailer:  http://sherlockshome.net/2015/10/08/10-things-we-learnt-from-the-new-sherlock-trailer/

Whatever, Carol!  IMDb briefly had Hiddles listed for Series 4, and Hiddles is totally gonna be in Series 4.  Clearly, it's reliable source!

John's comment to Sherlock about the hat reminds me of the TRF line about the hat no longer being just a deer stalker. The tone & delivery are very similar.

putting it in spoilers just because.

I've watched the trailer twice now, and I'm not quite sure how I feel about it.  My initial reaction is that I'm excited to get to see some of my favorite actors again, but that I don't think I'm quite going to be getting my favorite characters yet.  This almost felt like what Sherlock would have been like had Moftiss decided they wanted to make a Victorian era remake of the Conan Doyle stories, not a modern reinterpretation of the Conan Doyle universe.

Tentatively, I'm thinking of it much the same as I do when my favorite fan fic writers decide that they want to write a Sherlock Holmes story set in one of the other Holmes universes or in the canon universe.  I'm looking forward to it, but I don't know that I think it will really be "our" Sherlock and John in any meaningful way.   Guess we'll see.

What is special about what we have seen so far - while the first teaser was funny and witty, this one is dark and gloomy. Like two totally different films. It's hard to predict what kind of show we will see, actually.

As for the pics I posted - that golden thingy haunts me. I couldn't spot it in the Episodes so far, but I'm quite sure I have seen it recently. Why else would I be so sure that it is a fire iron? BTW, the victim who lies on the floor and is being photographed seems to be stabbed with it.

What if they have combined The Sign of the Four with The Crooked Man, Wisteria Lodge and the Blanched Soldier with The Valley of Fear? No need for Mycroft, since he only appears in The Greek Interpreter and The Bruce-Partington Plans. And the pitchforks could have come from a nod to The Sussex Vampire.

Pitchforks?  Where did I miss seeing those?

But yes, I fully expect to see quite a Conan Doyle hodgepodge!

I think the pitchforks were in a brief glance near the kkk lookalikes scene. If I recall correctly. Now to watch again to see.

The Diogenes Club is in that trailer...

Here's a view inside the modern-day Club:

... and here's a scene from the trailer:

The only thing I see resembling a pitchfork in "that" scene is the fleur-de-lis in the window, but I agree that sounds like Molly's voice near the end.

I also note that "Nobody made me" and "I made me" are shot from different angles with different lighting, implying they are not one continuous bit of dialog like a couple of articles have suggested. Whatever that means.

Mary looks menacing.

I feel like Lestrade in HOB: "This is fun!"

Oh!  I remember thinking the windows looked familiar, maybe like at the Diogenes Club, but was too lazy to go see what those actually looked like.  And I totally failed to notice Ol' What's-His-Name sitting there!

Is that Victorian though?  Or might it be a current-day scene?

I think it is Victorian hair Sherlock in the scene.

Nope -- click on the photo to enlarge it.  Sure looks like Mycroft!

I've done a little research into electrification in London, and though I haven't found anything quite as specific as I'd like, it does seem plausible that electricity would have been available for homes and such by about 1895.  The Diogenes Club is/was located in a very posh residential area that would presumably have had electricity well before most parts of the city.

Ermmmmm..... I think the photo Sitty is referring to is this one:

not the larger one above it, which is, of course, present-day Mycroft.....

Ah -- gotcha:  We were just supposed to compare the windows.

I agree, that dimmer photo does look like Victorian Sherlock.  BUT -- in the Conan Doyle stories, at least, Sherlock was not a member, so if he's in the Diogenes Club, then he's presumably there as Mycroft's guest; ergo Mycroft must be in the Special.

I hope so! Although maybe they're using the same set to represent someplace else and we're not supposed to notice... (I never would have.... )
