Lest any of my fellow non-Brits get the wrong idea of what goes on at your workplace, let me translate "bugger all" as roughly "not a damn thing."

Correct, we do not participate in any actual buggering.

nod-skype-smiley.gif Besides personal preference about what kind of scents I like, that vile stuff also always ruined any non-complimentary perfume. The same reason I cannot stand most perfumes made for women, the cloying sweetness (for my olfactory sense at least) often means headache and nausea.

the same goes for me, when I enter a parfum store my nose gets assaulted by 78 different scents and it makes me gag.

:O Surely such a thing is impossible?!

It's not impossible, I've heard that there are women as old as 116!

Ugh, perfume. I can't go inside perfume stores either, they make me feel sick.

I used to think I hated all perfumes but then a friend gave me a sample kit she had gotten her hands on through work that contains five teeny tiny flasks of some very fancy and probably horribly expensive stuff and I love all of them. They don't smell perfume-y somehow; there isn't a hint of that sharp alcoholic aroma. It's more like smelling different flowers in a garden. I only use them a few times a year though, because I know I won't be able to replace them.

I also really like rose water.

Decent perfume shouldn't smell of alcohol. I have a few that I love, but they aren't cheap. I hate cheap perfume, I find that does smell alcoholic and too chemically.

I've only ever worn one perfume/cologne to speak of.  The last day of my student-teaching, the students unexpectedly gave me presents -- one was a cute little jeweled cat pin, and the other was a bottle of Tigress.  I found that the scent worked well with my own chemistry, and wore it regularly for a while, until it started to give me a rash.  I stopped for a few decades, and by the time I decided I'd like to get some more and wear it only occasionally, I couldn't find it in stores any more.  Then the Vermont Country Store carried it for a while (they have lots of other bygone fragrances too), and I bought a bottle (despite the price!) because I figured at the rate I'll use it, it should last me the rest of my life.

I don't mind a DECENT scent on someone else, but having one on myself irritates me, not matter if I like it or not. It's like having someone in your personal space all the time :D

Fragrances no matter how natural are likely to cause allergic rhinitis if too strong. And of course it is a graduated scale as some take a little to be too much while others would take a lot in comparison.

Thank heaven Carol explained bugger all. :O

Perfume, geez. I have very sensitive nose and someone's perfume is their personal bubble perimeter for me. I have no qualm asking colleague "Did you fall into perfume pit or something?" (Change perfume word into something that means overwhelming fragrance not in a good way, I don't remember any English term), because it'd definitely bother me the whole day and want them to know it's too much.

I had a teacher in high school who always wore weird smelling perfume, can't describe it, mixture of flowers, mist, cardboard and sealed tupperware maybe? She had habit of walking through the classroom corridor so the proximity could be very close and stood somewhere near while explaining something and I really really couldn't concentrate while holding my breath. Luckily it was an easy subject.

But I do enjoy lighting up some aroma burner at home, there are couple of scents I like; greentea, aloevera (not all), fresh mint, and my favorite: clean linen.

@introvert

I'm starting to think I'm no longer an introvert.

Been wanting to respond on this but couldn't find time.

So, have you found out? I'm really curious if people could change this preference over time. Or maybe you are in the middle of the scale in the first place?

An friend of mine is in the middle, she is around 55% on extrovert side. Imo, it works out pretty good for life. She handles social situation well, and also handle solitary happily for a good amount of time. Maybe that is very good balance? That could be very handy in many situations.

I know personally it's impossible for me (not that I want to). When I moved away from everyone I know for work years ago, I was surprised that I'm not as lonely as I thought. Much much less to almost insignificant level. Now I have doggie, that fury angel makes me hardly remember how it's like. Amd when I was forced to social situation, I really do all kind of efforts to escape, from wandering around aimlessly just to avoid going home when there are people, or escaping from a party by sneaking out. But then again, my scale is tipping 90%, most probably more.

I finally got to see the Dino Babies exhibit in Cardiff Museum on the weekend, and look what they did to the outside of the building. Gotta love a set of massive dino claws!

What does the "clean linen" smell like?

Smell like fresh laundry I suppose.

Not strong, smell familiar and homy.

Ah, but if it was a T-rex, imagine how huge it would be if those were it's little sissy hands.

I am so exhausted, it's been non-stop this week, I haven't got to just go straight home after work once, and I've been working overtime to finish early tomorrow, though thanks to another accident on the M4 I was late getting in today so that has screwed up that plan. Even when I finish early tomorrow I don't get to go home since I stupidly arranged to meet an old school friend for a meal. Didn't get home until after 11 last night, got an appt straight after work tonight, and then that tomorrow. I'm tired, and stressed, and fed up.

Brent Spinner was Data in Star Trek, Karl Urban was in the new Star Trek movies (also STID) and Jenna is from Dr Who.

What she said with an addendum that Data is from The Next Generation section of the franchise. In addition to that the Phelps twins were Fred & George Weasley in the Harry Potter films. Don't know the other 2.

Karl Urban was also Eomer in Lord of the Rings.

You are all correct; Brent was Data in The Next Generation, Karl was in the Star Trek reboots and LOTR, the Phelps twins were Fred and George and Jenna was Clara. As for Corin and Jared: Corin played in Stargate SG-1, and Jared played in Once upon a time.

The exhaustion continues, I'm now at the point where I look and sound drunk even though I'm not.

And you don't want to know how many times I had to correct words in that sentence to it made sense. (And that one.)  :skull:
