On my second coffee of the day... may be ill advised.

Yup, it was a mistake, now I'm really spacey.

Things I never thought I would do to keep up with my colleagues: watching football. First it was the play offs, now it's the WC, someone find me a different job please!

What do you mean as spacey?  I don't drink coffee regularly but I drink two cups sometimes, and it'd make me want to do something.. something! Although the affect is not consistent, sometimes I just want to sit and watch TV.

@FL Do you have to? I had an ex who was crazy about football and he would bring a piece of paper and strategized on how he would arrange his dream team. I'm not into football, but didn't really mind it and 'help' him strategize because after hearing him for a while, I came to know the strength and weaknesses of the players. But if it's too overwhelming, I'd just do my own thing and ignored him.

Last month, as annually, I tasked myself to buy stuff for my acquaintances. They helped me a great deal before, professionally and I still rely on these relationship and maintain it with gifts to them yearly, which they appreciate since they are staying in place with very limited choice of merchandize. They like fishing, so I hang to that plus nitty gritty like scarf to their wives. BUT I don't remember how many children they have and how old they are, until last year one of them cheerfully called me to let me know the news that he finally had a baby boy. Which I wrote in his contact detail '2 months old as per november 2016', a precious snippet of information as I'm really bad at remembering children and their details.

This year, thankfully, I got most of the gifts online, but when I was shopping  for other thing I saw a cute little kid jacket that I'm pretty sure would be useful. However, I have no idea how big a 1.5 years old. And since I had it in my mind that jacket is a good gift, now I HAD to find a jacket. The bigger one, safer bet, were not as cute looking as the one that I noticed in the first place. There was no information about the size (it's not a clothing shop, but a big chain supermart), I tried to recall all the kids that I know but really had no idea if that would fit. Went around to check other clothing items to see if I could compare, but there was no clear info and I'm not familiar with the sizes eventhough I checked it online as well. So I walked around and went back to the jacket multiple times, spotting some unsuspecting shoppers with children but too reluctant to ask. Spotting some shop assistant but thought some looked too young to have children and stood there hopelessly and wondering if I really needed to talk to strangers and how far the comversation would drag. Apparently I must looked very lost, a shopper (a mother) and somehow an (finally) older looking store assistant approached me at the same time and asked me if I need help. :p

So I asked them if 1.5 yrs fits in it and both of them agreed that it should. I said thanks and went my merry way.

It shouldn't have been a struggle! XD

Didn’t it have any size written in it at all? Even our chain supermarket stuff has the age written in it for kids clothes, I wouldn’t have a clue either!

Yeesh, I hate football. I don’t mind rugby but can’t stand football.

Spacey meaning a bit out of it, not all there. I thought if anything it would make me hyper but nope.

There are, but sizes like 8, 10, etc, or other type of size for other brand... and I'm not really sure what they stand for. Maybe it's for respective age? But that don't work for adult clothing, do they? :p

But nevermind, moral of the story, do not buy clothing items for others, it's too troublesome. I wouldn't attempt it again....eh look! A cute beanie hat! A miniature Belstaff lookalike!

For little kids' clothing, yes, it's probably ages.  Though of course some kids are big for their age, and some are small.  And if it's anything like adult clothing, some brands run larger than others.

For adult clothing, I believe the systems are different in different countries.  There are definitely different ways of sizing shoes in the US, UK, and Europe (and here in the US, men's and women's sizes are different).

Plus (at least here) the sizing keeps changing.  When I was in my late teens, I always wore a size 14 blouse or dress.  I still have a few of those items, and they still fit me.  But nowadays I need to buy a 10 or 12 to get the same fit.  Men's shirts are traditionally sized in inches, so I don't think that's changed, but most shirts nowadays are sold as merely small, medium, large, extra-large, etc.  Alex used to wear a medium, but now he needs a small (even though he's still the same size and is medium height with a trim-but-not-skinny build).  God knows what he'll wear if the sizes change again.  Oddly enough, shoe sizes seem to have gone the other way -- as a teen I wore a size nine or nine-and-a-half.  I still have a pair of those, and they still fit.  But now I have to buy a ten or eleven.

You can say that again!  I have enough trouble figuring out what size to buy for myself!

I wear a size 14 jean (it used to be considered a 16). I know I’ve technically gone up in size, but if I were to buy a size larger jeans, I’d be able to shimmy them off with them full zipped and buttoned. My current pair I can just about do that with.

I found a dying pigeon in our driveway today when I got home from work. The neighbors' son said it had fallen off the roof. I got a bucket and a spatula from the kitchen and scooped it up. It hardly struggled. Carried it to a dry protected place (it was raining). It expired there. And I cried because I had to think of all the other creatures on earth suffering and dying all the time and it was a bit overwhelming.

At least I stepped in before the boy touched it. A fully grown bird doesn't just fall off a roof. Goodness knows what disease it might have had.

I am still feeling a bit sad and raw.

Oh no! 😧 That's so sad, and it's horrible when things get overwhelming like that.

I always feel awful when I come across badly injured animals when it's clear they won't recover. Sometimes it's clear it would be kinder to put something out it's suffering, but I can never bring myself to do it.

Me neither. The poor thing seemed like it was beyond pain at least. It was all limp and flopsy and didn't make any noise. It just looked at me.

I know, I can't stand to see an animal in distress, I just go to pieces. Urk.

Speaking of which, how's your guinea pig, Pseud?

She’s back to her noisy self, yelling for goodies whenever I walk past. I feel sorry for her being on her own but I don’t think I’ll get another one because there is no guarantee they’ll get on (the ones I had when I was little didn’t), and there is always going to be an overlap in lifespan. I need to make it to the pet superstore place and get her some bits and pieces to make things less dull. She’ll be going to her outdoor hutch soon so maybe that’ll make her less bored too.

I am bored to the point of catatonia.

Sadly no. But I think I may expire at my desk.

Can you daydream? Or does your work leave you no time for that?

I think I literally fell into a stupor. I normally finish nice and early on Fridays (not doing less hours, I just go in super early and the day seems to go faster) but today I started and finished late because I was meeting up with a walking group on the way home. My god, I thought the day was never going to end - I had the machines running, so had an eye on them, but nothing pressing for me to do - could have got away with reading or watching Netflix but nothing was catching my interest. *sigh*

Home now. Still completely shattered but I don't want to go to bed!

Ha, The Killers are playing tonight in the stadium down the road and I can hear them/their roadies doing the sound checks. :D

I take it "The Killers" are a band (rather than, you know, actual killers).  I hope they're among your favorites, 'cause it sure sounds like you're gonna be treated to a free concert.

Yea, they’re a pretty well known American band. I do like them luckily, though last time a band was playing it was one I wasn’t keen on but still fun to get a free concert in my garden!

I kinda know what you mean. When Alex and I were house hunting, we looked at one place that had a drive-in theater just the other side of a tall fence in back.  We figured we could see free movies by watching with binoculars from upstairs and tuning our radio to the frequency they used.  The idea still intrigues me, even though we ended up passing on that house.

You’d probably do it once and then decide it’s easier to rent the dvd when it comes out.

I’m sitting in the garden enjoying the music, pretty funny hearing thousands of people screaming between the songs.

The day was busy.

Managed to get out of my bed before noon, because it's a cool weekend before next heat wave. Installed a new radio-receiver-thingy, which actually turned out to be a computer with more cables going in and out. Said installing included re-wiring the whole system, some disappointments and quite a lot physical activities. Then I tried to pimp up my sofa, which included cutting a wooden panel in two, a lot of drilling and screwing, and even more disappointments (definitely need another concept). As usual, this also included chaos magically spreading around the whole flat, adding to the chaos that have been there already. I'm hungover.gif right now (getting old is no fun) and I'm also really cheerful about the prospect of cleaning the mess tomorrow. whoopdedoo.gif

But at least the sound is good.

Watching the people opposite there is a very fine line between being house proud and being finicky.
