There's a big cunning spider living in my kitchen, he's chosen the perfect spot in the corner where he can run down the side of the washing machine at the first sign of danger which means I can't get rid of him. He's been there for days now so I've decided to call him Hamish, in honour of John.

Always. Whenever I see someone chatting someone up at a bar I march right over and yell "HAMISH!!!" Weirdly it seems to make them bond though because then they can talk about the weirdo yelling names.

I heard licking people on the face actually repulse them and that really help with world's population. I know, I know, it's not polite. But the other only way, peeing on fire place, is not really suitable with our anatomy.

Aw, it's nice to have a good laugh. 

I have had many arachnid encounters lately too and some were quite scary. Spiders aren't supposed to get that big around here. In one case, I seriously wondered whether it hadn't escaped from someone's terrarium.

WILL IT EVER STOP RAINING?! We have a big Atlantic storm sitting over us, and it's been non-stop torrential rain for over 24 hours. I put petrol in the car earlier, and because the rain was horizontal it went straight under the petrol station roof and I got drenched. It's also been really dark all day, and my roof has just given in under the strain and started leaking at one of the joins. FFS

I feel you (as well as North and South Carolina). It's been raining on and off since yesterday with today being all rain.  There are flash flood warnings out for small stream and urban street flooding.  johnspec's Kung Fu got cancelled.  My sister then decided to drag him to her dancing class to which he was not happy as we were going to watch the extended edition of The Two Towers tonight. Alas, that looks like it will have to wait until Saturday (Thankfully I have that day off).  In the mean time, I get to have fun on my hill top listening to the downpour that has been going on to varying strengths for the last few hours wishing I had 1 of Noah's lifeboats even though they never actually existed since the ark was one giant lifeboat.

God, I'm so unphotogenic. I'm having to scan an ID photo for my student ID. I'm not a great beauty but I don't think I'm bad looking but every time I see a photo I think ARGH! Kill it with fire!

I know! I just had a new picture taken for my drivers license. Eeek, do I really look like that? 

Wonder if its the same weather system that just visited us. Nasty beast. Where's a dragonslayer when you need one?

What color were you wanting?  And what did you get?

One thing I like about Lands'End is that you can phone up and they'll tell you what color an item *really* is, something like "medium bright pink with a touch of orange."  I keep suggesting that they make that info available online.

Spiders are good -- they eat bugs.  One apartment we lived in, Alex kept a pet spider on the back of the kitchen counter, next to the outside door (which didn't fit properly).  It was very good about eating the steady stream of ants that came in.

Yet another tradesman coming to my house today, this time to look at my phone line which has ceased to work... I’m hoping he can fix it at the connection box outside and won’t need to come in the house. I’ve had quite enough of strangers tromping through this month.

It's hard to find a good example, but I thought I was getting a deep blue-gray, kind of a slate color.

Sort of like this scarf, but not exactly...

What I ended up getting was a very dark, almost black, midnight navy.
