People disappointed with brand A will buy from brand B and vice versa, in the end they will sell anyway.

Something like politics, Party A and Party B, eh?  Some people are diehards and will stick with A or B, others will switch if they're disappointed.

And there is a lightbulb still burning after 100+ years now, somewhere in the USA.

This house is forty years old. The lightbulbs over the stairs are on every day, for several hours a day, and have never gone out. (Thank goodness, as there is no way that I can divine to reach them, short of having the fire dept. bring out a hook and ladder truck.) They are quite expensive; halogen type. Give me another sixty years and we'll test your theory. :D

Good grief. Someone's got  a lot of free time on their hands....

😡

Well I was expecting to be going to my parents down in Scarborough, tomorrow...

I have  a train ticket...

but apparently, there are no trains!

Hope to be going Thursday, instead.

Does the ticket say it's for tomorrow -- or is it just a "whenever ticket?

It's an anytime, starting tomorrow, but says 'valid until 2 January'.

I think it may all be because of new timetables...

But the company that sold me it, were still trying to tell me the train was running...even though on their own website, it says there are no trains!

Is there another way to check for sure? Whether the train is running or not, I mean.

Well other than not believing the national railway information line...my son did the same as me, tried to pretend he was booking a ticket and got the same respose: no trains!

I am getting stuff done today and I will just travel tomorrow.

It dawned on me I will know the status of my ticket as soon as I arrive at the station...

I guess if it isn't valid, it won't allow me through the barrier!

If I actually get to Mum and Dad...which I will, do some how!

I will report back.

What do you guys think about fireworks?

Maybe I'm being unfair, because now I'm at the age where I no longer care about festive and celebration of New Year. I used to enjoy taking pictures or looking at fireworks, well, I still am, I still want to be grateful, to feel happy about a milestone. But I'm really questioning the necessity now, especially recent years.

It's apparent that in January, there are more missing pets than usual, and a good number of them are spooked by fireworks. In current place that I stay, it could go off as early as after sunset and until long after midnight or the day after. The unstable frequency even makes me jump. And when I visit the beach on the New Year Day, the garbages, the trash of celebration, the colorful strings, fireworks remains, food wraps are abundant, in many places that I have been, it's the same. It's still difficult to hope that people clean after themselves.

Bloody hate them and think they should be banned...

sorry, am I sitting on the fence on this one?!

I definitely think that the private fireworks on New Years Eve in Germany should be banned. Whoever thought it was a good idea to let a bunch of drunk people throw around explosives? To say nothing of all the trash...

Imho it would be fine to have public fireworks once a year in appropriate places that get cleaned up the next day. But I wouldn't mind if they disappeared altogether.

Love 'em. Always have, suspect I always will.

But I agree I'd rather keep it to the big public celebrations (specifically, 4th of July, in this country) and not any old time. Too many pyrotechnicians spoil the broth.

Same here, I love it too but I definitely think we should keep it to festivities only. There are far too many people who buy them with no with no knowledge of which are "decent" or simply don't care.

^ I agree.

I think that celebrations are important for the human psyche, so I don't advocate their disappearance.  But I don't like hearing backyard fireworks every night for weeks around Independence Day, often into the wee hours.  My dogs don't scare at them unless they're very loud, but even the slightest boom gets them barking, which can get very frustrating night after night, hour after hour.

No one sets off New Year's fireworks where I live, it's too cold, lol.

Same here. Usually. (We've had some warm ones too. ) I didn't even realize it was a thing.

Up in Maine, at least one summer, they set off fireworks every time the ball team played a home game. That was a bit much, methinks. Pretty, but I kept thinking how annoying it must have been for the people who lived nearby and had to listen to it night after night.

Good heavens, I didn't realize you lived next door to me!  We get that too, and it apparently doesn't stop till they run out of fireworks.  Poor Cecil spends large chunks of June and July under the bed.

Indiana used to have a law prohibiting the personal use of most types of fireworks.  It was perfectly legal to own them or to sell them here, but not to set them off.  So (of course) there sprang up dozens (hundreds?) of stores called "Out of State Fireworks" which sold fireworks not legal for use here.  In order to buy them, you had to sign a pledge not to set them off within the state.  Uh.  Huh.  ;)

But judging by this article, the legislature must have finally admitted that the law had been a farce.  There are still some safety-related requirements, plus restrictions on what days fireworks can be used.  Looks like most municipalities permit them on New Year's, though I don't recall seeing them used then except when we lived in Rochester NY (where it's also pretty cold, and the only reason I ever saw those fireworks was that they were visible from our bathroom window).  All I can say is, I'm glad I don't live in Whitestown!

Somebody on Facebook has unfriended me...

Obviously took exception to my post-

But really, how mature is that!

Am I really so horrible?

That depends on the content of the post, there are a lot of people who unfriended friends on Facebook because they supported Trump.

She is just an internet friend, so I don't know a great deal about her.

But I seem to recall she may be some kind of medic.

She was giving me  a lot of advice, anyhow.

I hadn't asked for it, it was a bit much and a bit full on, to wake up to this morning ...

And I felt it was a bit preachy.

I mean I know she was trying to be nice.

I wasn't rude to her.

I don't get how people can fall out with somebody over the internet...

You don' get the facial expression, the voice tone or anything.it's pathetic.

I also asked her a question and she never answered, just unfriended me!

May I know what question you asked?

I asked if bananas had potassium in them!

I mean this was after she had(and I realise put time into) composing a massive post about healthy diet etc.
