It sure ain't gonna be cheap!  When I went to my new dentist to see about having the implant removed, he asked why I didn't just go back to the guy who'd installed it, because he'd probably fix it for free.  My reply was basically "what kind of idiot do I look like?"

I'm in no hurry to get a new one.  Can't until the site heals, in any case.  After that -- well, we'll see!

Yeah, go back to a dentist that caused you a year of pain, sounds like a winner to me .

It's not too bad, actually.  They gave me a prescription for extra-extra-strength Ibuprofen, and that helps.  But I think what helps most is the ice pack.  (I also filled their prescription for Hydrocodone, but haven't used any -- don't seem to need it.)

That darn implant had been hurting me ever since it was put in (a year ago), so it's a relief to have it out!

Ow, ooh, poor you! You have my empathy. Nothing more nagging than dental pain, imo. Don't be brave, take the Hydrocodone!

Oh, poor Carol! Sympathies from across the pond - everything dental is so incredibly horrible. Be brave, as Sherlock Holmes said - and don't deny yourself any pain killer if you need it...

No, what I mean is, if his name WERE "William Sherlock Scott Holmes," why call him Sherlock?

Ummm... because it's beautiful? Honestly, I think "Sherlock" is a lovely name. I hate hearing it mutilated by Janine or Bill Wiggins. At least nobody has ever called him "Shirley" (yet... )

"Mycroft" isn't too bad a name, either. I fits the character perfectly.

And it is a good name to shout. Better than William, and I suspect his parents had to shout his name rather often and rather loud when they encountered the mess he made... And when he was good, he was Billy.

Seriously, Shezza, though? ;)

I cringe everytime someone calls him Shezza or Sherl. :)

We probably won't hear Shezza often but as a street name it's kind of cool.

Anybody know where it came from?

I just started to tell people close to mey middle name. It took me till the 4th grade to spell it correctly.

Hey, that's not so bad -- one of my classmates didn't even know what her name was till third grade.  Well, she knew her name was Jackie, but had absolutely no idea that it was short for Jacqueline, because no one had ever told her -- till the teacher called her that one day.

You know, I'm thinking that Sherlock has to be pretty traumatized and maybe dealing with some PTSD after this episode.

1.  Shot by Mary.  He's forgiven her but being shot by someone like that would still haunt you.

2.  Shooting Magnussen because he'd been out-played and his emotions got the better of him - another haunting

3.  Being sent on a mission/exile that is likely to end in his death - that's got to weigh heavy on him

4.  The potential of being separated from the only friends he has forever - that might even weigh heavier

5.  Being yanked back to England to deal with another crisis. - just got his leash jerked

I would say he needs therapy, but he's too quick for any therapist.

Isn't it a sort of slang thing? Like calling Mrs. Hudson "Hudders?" I don't what the proper term is.

He didn't say hudders... He said headers, because he & John were already suffering headaches from thier stag night.

John is his therapy.

Not for all that stuff he won't be.  In some ways, John is going to be less available to Sherlock - I mean he'll have a wife a kid, and the kid especially presents new time constraints.  So how they will keep John active in his life and on his cases will be interesting.  Of course, we watch the show for Sherlock and John's adventures, but logic dictates that John cannot be as available in the same way.

Oh well I guess he'll have to go to Mycroft or get himself a girlfriend. You'd probably love it if Molly becomes his confidant.

Or he and Lestrade could commiserate, now that Greg is apparently single.

Nope. Hudders. It's a slang-type thingy, like saying "Mrs. H" instead of "Mrs. Hudson." I assume it's mostly young people that do it, that's one thing that made it so funny. Sherlock's usually so formal!

Either one of those appeals to me!

I think John will be very much in the picture just like he's always been ... as the creators have said, "that's the show." They do need their relationship to evolve, though, or it will become too static. I wonder where they'll go with it.

Posted

of course we know that John will be involved but logically, they're either going to have to deal more with the personal lives perhaps as much as the cases because John is now going to be a family man.

Well, he only needs to be available for three episodes every two years, plus now one extra for Christmas. I'm sure he'll be able to manage that... :P

As for what goes on when we're not looking, well, I suppose like the original characters, they lead their separate lives. Dr Watson hinted at a lot of cases Holmes solved on his own, some of them in foreign countries. It's not as if he couldn't work without his Boswell.

In this incarnation, even when they were still both at Baker St, I always had the impression that they spent a lot less time in each others company than one might think from watching the episodes. It's only that we always see them together, because their shared adventures are the story, and when the game isn't on at the moment, there's no point in keeping the camera running, so to speak.

As for therapy. If this was an ordinary being we were talking about and not Sherlock Holmes, I'd have said he needed that from the first. But hey, this is Sherlock - he doesn't need a therapist, he needs cases. He's not a realistic character, after all. Far from it. He's just played and written so well that he feels real in a way no costumed super hero ever will.
