Maybe it was a little Benjamin Button spider who came along in a suitcase.

:lol5: I like the Australian and Afghanistan spider story!

And Carol, how could you scare that poor tiny spider twice! :D :D

Waks.. camel spider is one ugly spider! I probably would dance around to. And ewww.. in the google image it mostly eating quite sufficient sized animals and I saw nasty wounds. So beside big and ugly, it is dangerous as well? Ugh. Never go there without baseball bat.

Thank you dear friends,

I don't know how to post the photo.

Doe, to post photos, you will need a photo-sharing account, like Instagram or Imgur. You post your photos there, then link to them here. If you think you'd like to do that, Caya has a set of instructions how to do it ... I can try to find them for you.

Right, what Arcadia said.  (Or Photobucket.)

If your photo is on your smartphone or laptop, then it's easy to upload it to the hosting site (just follow their directions).  Once it's there, copy the photo's new URL (again, follow the site's directions) and paste it into your post like this:

[img= URL ]

... or if you're using the full editor, just click on the little photo icon in the bottom row of the reply-box toolbar, and paste the URL into the little box that pops up.

Just nipping back to spideys for a sec - I'm wondering if anyone else has this specific phobia. I'm one of those people who's always listening to music, at work I have earbuds, in the car I have my stereo blaring, but at home I have big over the ear noise cancelling headphones. And I always, everytime I put them on, freak out over the thought there might be a spider or some other insect in them that will go into my ear. I always prod around the leather cuff and give them a good check, but it still bothers me until I'd had them on for a while and nothing emerges. Anyone else bothered by that kind of thing? Any other weird phobias?

Oh, and I have a spider bath story too. I probably have a bath once a year, if that, I'm much more of a shower girl. The last time I had a bath I was submerged completely with just the very top of my face sticking out of the water, and I saw something black float past me. I ignored it, thinking it was a bit of fluff off my foot or something, only to realise when I saw up that I was sharing my bath with a friggin spider.

I'm not too bothered by heights, but I don't know I'd consider it weird - the fear of plummeting to your death is quite reasonable really ;)

I used to work with someone who was terrified of tomato ketchup. No idea why, he would never explain.

I do that only if I actually encountered a spider earlier. Then I jump every time something touches me for awhile ... until the adenalin wears off, I presume.

I have a little bit of phobia about sharp things. Possibly because I've injured myself with them a time or three. Or more. Back when I was having anxiety attacks, if I saw a knife in the kitchen, I had to lay a cloth on top of it, because I was so afraid it'd somehow get into my hand and I'd hurt myself or someone else with it. It was truly one of the most bizarre phases of my life, hope I don't ever have to go through THAT again. So many strange thoughts. I'd drive by a highway sign and would think it had secret instructions ... just for me. All because some hormones got out of whack.

That's genuinely scary! Especially the bit about the signs. I don't think I could put a cloth over a knife, because I'd be scared I'd forget the knife was there and I might accidentally put my hand on it.

It was very scary; there was a period of about two-three weeks where I couldn't even drive because I kept imagining all the horrible things that were going to happen to me. Can't even remember what they were, now. And I spent a lot of time outside myself, observing. Bizarre.

Clinically, though, it was all rather interesting! But I truly would have preferred it to happen to someone else, and I could've just studied them. :p

:o Yikes.

But yes, I agree it's interesting in a clinical way. It must be weird for medical students to try to find a balance between having sympathy between what is happening to someone and being detached and scientific enough to study it to find a fix.

instagramsihirliprofil

It's ok?

Edit by Martina: The format would be https://www.instagram.com/sihirli/but that is your profile, not single pictures - I'd give an example but there don't seem to be any pics yet. Either way, I'd be careful of using that one, depending on whether this is your real name and whether you'd like to have it associated with your forum account here. Some folks don't mind, but some do, so if you're among the latter, I'd get myself a more anonymous account at imgur or flickr or somewhere. I wrote this in here instead of a post of my own so that you can delete it yourself if you decide to not have a link to that instagram profile after all. Anyway, for further one-on-one posting instructions, PM me and I'll gladly explain.

I've never used instagram, but presumably Arcadia can answer your questions.

Hello Martina,

https://www.instagram.com/sihirliprofil

My instagram account name is sihirliprofil. I will take photo my new house now. I will try.

Thank you for your help. What a good person you.

I am searcing Sherlock poster. If i put it on the wall. Especially The Final Problem.

I must make a desing of balcony.

Ah, I misunderstood then and got the wrong instagram user - my bad! (sidenote: does sihirli mean "magic" or something similar?)

The account will work fine, and you should be able to hotlink pics from there, but again - there are real life pics of you on this plus at least part of your name, so I'd think twice about using it.

Testing embedding with that beautiful sunset pic of yours:

I check for spiders in certain places when I think of it.  Seats, handles, the shower curtain, etc.  They tend to startle me.  I hate bugs and I'm inevitably the one in a group who a spider will fall on, or mosquitoes will bite while leaving everyone else alone.

I'm scared by most bugs, but my phobia is wasps.  Especially yellowjackets.  It's a terribly inconvenient phobia, I hate to even step outside in the summer (not that I like summer anyway).  I prefer colder seasons when I will be left alone.

Sorry, Doe! I thought I responded to you, but my post disappeared! Anyway, my advice would have been: ask Martina. :D

Does that beautiful beach have spiders on it? If no, can I go live there? :p

Aha, that's why I prefer winter.....

 See, this is why I love this forum... I come on here to gush about Sherlock and end up reading long articles about camel spiders and phobias.

I learned, for example, that they aren't really spiders but a separate order of arachnids. I found them quite fascinating to read about - but the pictures are hideous! Gave me nightmares.

I have arachnophobia but nothing against spiders, really. I don't like it when they are killed; I am very grateful for my husband who understands that I can't be in a room with one but also can't stand to have them squished and who will patiently chase the eight-legged intruders until he can catch them alive and compliment them outside.

The only bugs I can tolerate the killing of are ones that actively attack you. Like mosquitoes, for example. But house flies, the harmless kind that just sits there being ugly? I try to ignore them. And put screens in all my windows early so there just won't be so many of them.

Screens also provide a cushioning effect for any birds that may fly into the window.  I was very careful to specify that our house would have absolutely no externally exposed glass, for that very reason.  During ten years at our old apartment, we had only half-screens, and saw several birds die after attempting to fly through the glass.  As far as I'm aware, there have been no avian window-collision fatalities during the twelve years our house has existed.
