I'm seriously wondering whether either of you have watched the news, or are we so used to it by now that we don't care anymore?

I come here to get away from all the shit elsewhere.

Meaning shit as in shitty people doing shitty things, not shit as in I disbelieve it or am bored of it. I can't constantly look at and think about terrorism, it's too sad, depressing and senseless. So I come here and talk about something daft instead.

Forgive me for reminding you of that unpleasantness, I just wondered. How about I'll join you? I hate this season, it's just so cold and gray and rainy and dark and I have trouble orienting myself!

Agree.

Although some times I do rant about these stuffs, but most time no,

because saying something here doesn't help anything but doesn't mean it escapes my attention.

It's just..so tiring.

There were times when I stop reading news as well, but not knowing them doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

So now I'm almost always up to date but many times I don't know what to say because.. I don't know what to say.

It's not that I don't watch the news.  It's a combo of the fact that online interaction is inadequate and the fact that I need to perform some psychological self-preservation.

To the first, what am I going to do about a terrorist attack (I assume that's what you were referring to) online, especially in a fandom forum?  I mean, there's only so many times you can put a banner on your Facebook photo or tweet "thoughts and prayers" before you realize that this has absolutely no impact on anything.  Any thoughts, prayers, political actions, or philanthropic actions I wish to undertake don't need to be reflected online.

Second, it is partially self-preservation.  I can't - just absolutely can't - think about everything wrong in the world all the time. I need places where I can focus on things that make me happy or things that are simply mundane, like grousing about the weather or the work week.  Being in a constant state of anxiety doesn't help me, and it doesn't help anyone else.

You guys are one of my happy places.  I largely stay out of the political thread and political discussions, and I just enjoy the fact that I know people from all over the world who like Sherlock as much as I do.  And I think that makes a positive contribution to the culture, in a small way.  I have often said, "I have an online friend in Germany (or Wales or England or wherever)...." and that allows me to reflect on perspectives I have learned here. That's a net good in my book, but it won't happen as easily if all I focus on is tragedy.

He's Cumberbatch's character in Starter for Ten.  He's very good at quizzes and such.

It is bitterly cold here today. I've got my thermals on under my clothes and I still feel like I might freeze. Brrrrrrr.

It says it's 7 degrees celcius (44 farenheit) online, but I don't believe that because it feels way colder. I've got gloves on and I can still hardly move my fingers (and I'm indoors). Bits of the country are down to 3 degrees.

@Arcadia doesn't hear. Arcadia says 4-5 degrees celcius not cold.  :P

I think it's cold.

It's definitely going to get a lot colder, but it's the coldest it's been so far this year. How cold does it get in Turkey in winter?
