That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

As far as I can see, this is what Ms. Abbington tweeted today:

Ohhh so excited to start filming the fourth one. Can't wait until next year. You lot are in for a treat! Love those boys.

On April 8th of this year, she said (on camera) that Series 4 would start filming "round about this time next year," which I believe is where the assumption about April comes from.  It'd be nice to hear confirmation that they're still shooting for that general date.

Fine by me, as long as said lady has no speaking part in S4!

I'm fully expecting Mary to be in S4...she can't just disappear...we have to have the completion of her story.

But anyway.

On the filming: on the one hand "woohoo".

On a personal note...the timing may just be a bit wrong for me.

Filming usually takes about 3 months.

They normally do the London leg last.

I will be in London April and they may still be in Cardiff then.

They might be in Cardiff, they might not be.  According to Abbington, they start shooting in February, so they may be in London in April.

So what does Amanda know that Steven doesn't? :D

Well the first time she started talking about it, she alluded to April, but her recent quote was February.  Now, Ben starts shooting Dr. Strange in November, and that's going to take some time because I'm certain it will have a LOT of green screen work, and that can really take a lot of time.  We don't know how long he's scheduled to shoot, but you can be sure it will be 2-3 months minimum.  I would think he wouldn't have any major projects scheduled between Dr. Strange and Sherlock, but he does like to cram his schedule  completely full.

They generally shoot in London toward the end of the filming for each episode.  For example, for Series 3, they filmed on North Gower Street three times -- in April, May, and August.  If they do start sometime in February, and filming takes the usual three or four months (total), they will likely be in London sometime in April.

Note that he says "Mark [Gatiss] will be starting [to write] very soon. He may have started."  Whereas Mr. Gatiss said a week or two ago that he had started, and surely Mr. Moffat heard that before we did.  Also, he seems unsure of any details: "I think we’re shooting next year, April-ish."  So that may be a somewhat dated interview, or he may not have kept up with what's being nailed down back at the Hartswood offices.

I have come to feel close to most of the active members, but, because I have a Radio Times subscription and voted for the flipping thing (never trusted therapists, or I would need one now!) I never expected the arrogant Scot to come up with such an answer! PlaidAdder is right, he's not to be trusted at all!

I'm sure he's crying all the way to the bank. ;)

Along with many other iconoclastic pundits with a staunch following. Does that make him a trustworthy person?

Ma petite Aurelie, Mr Moffat is a Scot, besleybean also, the Knox reformists and Bonnie Prince Charlie romantics always stick up for each other! ^_^

He threw a publicity bone to the predominantly female fandom ( there could be a female Sherlock) just to ensure that we shall all watch the Special, S4, buy the merchandise, the DVDs (guilty: I have already pre-ordered the Special on Amazon) and thus line his pockets even more. Arcadia hit the nail on the head with her comment about his laughing all the way to the bank!

The Scots are proverbial for their miserliness and stinginess. Add to that his personal characteristics of wiliness, cunning, craftiness and canniness and you have got the whole package.

Thank you for criticising my host nation!

Steven is bright, talented and successful.

He is also very humorous and it's hardly his fault people don't get his subtle humour.

He has nothing to apologise for.

Dear besleybean, nothing personal! Just a bit of explaining!

On the other hand, he has a LOT to apologise for, starting with his initial choices, his approval of scripts that are not Sherlockian in any sense of the word, his misrepresentations of things, his publicity stunts and his overall disingenuousness! Not to mention reaping rewards and keeping us on tenterhooks for S4!

Please, accept my sincere apologies if you felt personally offended!

I have always had a weak spot for Mr Gatiss, he's the true Sherlockian, the other is just along for the ride, the resulting fame and fortune. He's a successful screenwriter, but I have always got the feeling from his scripts that he could have done episodes in Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Prison Break, in fact any good crime series, even Elementary, with the same flourish and never know the difference. He has never convinced me that he is a serious Sherlock Holmes fan with the kinds of thing he makes his principal character go through, never mind the two-year "hiatus".
