One of the recent articles gave a link to the production schedules in Britain.

Could you post a link to that article?

The original article was posted above on Jan 14, but here is a link to the subscription site:

http://www.theknowledgeonline.com/production-intelligence

Do you mean this post?

That takes me to a page with the same link:

The exact date for the start of principal photography can be found on Production Intelligence (listed on our site from 13 January), along with the names of crucial hires including the casting director, line producer, production designer and location managers.

But I don't see anything about Sherlock there, nor any way to search for it.  What dates do they have listed?

Carol, it is a paid service to have that information, and I don't pay for that service.  However, they do have the information.  Rest assured, however, that S4 is definitely in pre-production even now.  It takes a while to get permits, street closures, all kinds of location scouting done, etc.  People are already hard at work on S4.

Oh, I'm sure they are!  And Hartswood has made it perfectly clear that the wheels are in motion.  However, I doubt very much that that site has anything really specific (e.g., dates) just yet.  As you say, it's a paid service, which means that their actual product (i.e., what they get money for doing) is luring people in.

Well, yesterday there was a tweet from Arwel Jones showing the Wales Pinewood studio being set up to become 221B, but since I'm not on Twitter (140 characters? Impossible!) maybe sfmpco or J.P. could capture it for the forum.

There's a couple more interesting tweets (?) further down that page, let's see if I can do this:

Ben greeting his Dad (no, I don't remember this but it's sweet as can be: ) https://twitter.com/bencislife/status/699368522737152000

Set building for S4: https://twitter.com/Anythingbatch/status/699209817316052992

It's so strange to me that they rebuild the set for every series, you'd think it would be easier and cheaper to put it in storage. Well, I guess they do put some things in storage. It's an odd business, especially when you only film a few months every few years, I suppose.

Storage space is expensive, and they need the stage room for other productions. But the set is put into storage, at least partially. The smilie wall they had in London was the original one. But they still have to put the pieces together or maybe rebuild the less significant ones. And this year they moved to a new studio building anyway.

The panorama is older, I have seen it long ago. But I am curious about any picture they will post.

I know the storage unit where they had the sets had been flooded once before, perhaps between S1 and S2.  Maybe twice.  Things do get rickety and need to be repaired or replaced.

Yes, I saw a panorama during the set build for S3, but are you sure this is the same panorama?  Seems to me that any panorama taken at roughly the same point in construction (even for different series) would look about the same.

I am glad I'm not on Twiter, or Mr Gatiss might get a rather not lady-like reply! It's a flipping TV show: they should get on with the job in hand in a thoroughing professional, discreet, efficient and effective manner, much as they did for S1! Teasing the animals, sorry, the fans, I meant to say, is more than 'a bit not good'!

I wonder if his tweet was prompted by something specific, and if so what?

A little Mark Gatiss dry wit about the next episode:

Could that have been about the special technically since the tweet was from 2014 originally?

Could have fooled me, I just assumed it was a hockey rink until I read your post again, JP. I guess when they said they were in a new location, they meant "new" location!

Different sound stage, because they're now using the Pinewood facility in Cardiff.  And Alex says that Claire Pritchard (Sherlock makeup artist and Arwel Jones's wife) asked if that was a hockey rink, but he said no, just a sound stage.  (Neither of us can find that exchange now, though.)

Dear Carol, thanks for the information! And in the post-production video of the Abominable episode, there were some more hints dropped. A big plus, for me, was an :evilmoff: back-handed compliment about the (in)famous phrase "Elementary, my dear Watson", since he said that "some pedant somewhere will point out that it was never said" by ACD Holmes! Too d#*%#*#* right, it wasn't!

I am proud to be a pedant, a scholastic bookworm, a researcher and a teacher! At least, I am not a tease and a sophist, like him.

But it was a bit creepy, all the same: are they reading our posts, perchance?

They're coming for you, Inge...

Dear J.P. , surely the East wind, haven't you watched HLV enough times?

Or did you mean the wolf super agent that couldn't quite say "penguins"? :D

Perhaps it's time I started looking for a copy of Irene's crop to have close at hand at all times.
