Well S3 had the THE HOBBIT films in its wake, and I think it was Martin's schedule that proved tricky.  Hopefully that won't happen again.

No, I think they're all done with The Hobbit (finally!).  But hopefully Mr. Freeman will continue to have a good many things on his schedule, in addition to (but not instead of!) Sherlock.

They had Hobbit stuff around S2 and some again around S3.  But yes finally no Hobbit anything this year.  Scheduling now comes up against every other project out there that everyone on the show is (or asked to) doing.

Proof that the Sherlock curls are being regrown...this is from today's Wimbledon.

While I don't give a counterfeit penny for the hair or the curls, I must admit I love that picture because it's genuine! Actual human feelings from a genuine tennis fan, thanks for being real, BC!

Well, who knows if he's really growing out his hair for Sherlock... It must be a while until they actually film series 4, I mean, it hasn't even been written yet!

I love Sherlock's curls (his look in general), but I don't see any reason to worry about them or to force the actor into a hairstyle he might not like just for the role. There are great wigs these days.

I know they get paid a lot to do it, and have chosen the profession for themselves, but I have always pitied actors for being obligated to modify their bodies for their work. I wouldn't want a job that requires me to lose or gain ten pounds within a certain time frame, to die or cut my hair (or get extensions), etc.

There has been some discussion about actors, for instance dramatically either increasing or losing weight for a role...and the health impacts. Maybe individuals would just not choose those parts.

But I suppose some jobs do come with risks and yes the finacial rewards can be tempting...

They seem to be committed to starting next spring -- so about nine months from now (enough time for the average person to grow four or five inches of hair).  I suspect Mr. Moffat is like me: there's always something else that needs doing now -- so the writing isn't likely to get done till it reaches the top of the time-critical list (in other words, the last minute).

I think a lot of them enjoy changing their appearance, though. (If not the process they have to go through to do so!) They like the challenge, if nothing else. One of a million reasons I never wanted to be an actor!

Cutting or dying one's hair is one thing -- frequently gaining / losing weight just for a role is quite another matter.  It presumably has the same effect on the body as a constant cycle of gaining weight over time and then dieting.  I've heard that one's body starts to believe that there's a famine going on, and lowers its metabolism in order to make better use of what food is available.  In other words, one gradually becomes sluggish, and losing weight becomes next to impossible.  It's not just a cosmetic problem, it's a serious health risk that could lead to diabetes and heart disease.

And going downhill at over 80mph on skis can lead to serious disability, but it doesn't seem to stop the people who like the challenge! I assume it's a similar kind of thing, otherwise I can't fathom why actors torture themselves so much. Actually, even if it is the challenge, I can't fathom it ... :P but it still seems to be popular. God knows what the next fad will be; amputating limbs for a role? Actually getting shot for more believable close ups of bullet wounds?

Never mind their dieting, although it's potentially a health hazard. Do You think it shall come to this:

Amanda Abbington tweeted today that they start shooting S4 in April.  Shoot will last 4 months.

I saw she mentioned shooting series 4 and looking forward to it on Twitter, but she mentioned April specifically somewhere?

Haven't they been saying April for some time now? Why did I think I'd heard that already?

I do believe that is correct.  I feel like someone mentioned April at some point.  Gatiss?  Moffat?  Random news article?

As long as it's not just my imagination... :p
