I think it's something that would get the conspiracy theorists worked into a frenzy, like "John's True Love Revealed at Last." :p

If they want to do that, they should name the episode The three Holmes. Which is a nod to The three garribs, which is theorised as the episode in which John discovers Sherlock is in love with him.

Not in love with him...loves him enough to kill for him and we know that already in BBC Sherlock.

I am concerned the third episode is something like The Final Solution.

Right.  Though it wouldn't be exactly that, of course.  They'll have put their own spin on the title.

I'm guessing The Final Solution is an ACD story? What happens? I'm afraid that phrase made me think of the historical WW2 connotation not knowing it was a story title.

Oops -- I was thinking the Conan Doyle title was "The Final Solution," but of course it was "The Final Problem"

I thought you were playing with the original title on purpose, like they always do, and I thought your idea was terribly clever. :-D

It was Bev that was playing with the title.  I misremembered the original (so my comment makes no sense), but didn't realize that till Pseud commented on it.  So yeah, you were right about Bev's post.

Yeah I kind of made an error...but who knows with BBC Sherlock?!

Seriously I do think it may be something like the Final Problem...or else more obviously a reference to 3 Holmes bros.

Ya'all should remember the basic ACD premise as explained by the original Sherlock Holmes and NOT theorise without enough data. It always leads to misconceptions, and in our case, ad fans, to disappointment.

To be honest I don't have time to read all of the stories, so if I didn't theorise without enough data I'd never get to talk about anything on here. Besides I like seeing what crazy ideas people come up with ;)

Although I hate the WWII usage, I like "The Final Solution."  Then make the entire episode be about Sherlock having to solve a mystery with chemistry alone.   :D

But yeah, it occurred to me too that they'd named it something like "The Love that Dare Not Speak its Name," and they know the fandom is going to be going positively nuts for the follow-on hiatus.  In fact, there's about 1% of me that thinks Moftiss would name the episode that and then just show a blank screen for 90 minutes, just so they could sit back for a couple of years and read all the tortured fan fiction that results.

I really don't think Mark and Steven give much thought to and certainly don't care about fan fic.

Oh, please, not Oscar Wilde mixed up with Sherlock! He has already committed manslaughter, we don't need any more drama of that nature, especially since same-sex marriages are allowed throughout the EU (except Brexit so-and-sos) and even the US now!

Probably not -- but they DO seem to enjoy getting us all wound up. And leaving us that way for a while. While publicly ridiculing us.

Hilarious! Can any of the dear fellow members explain the symbolism of the broken string on the violin image of their latest turning of the screws? I cannot find any original story where a broken string involved a case.

No idea, Inge. In fact, I hadn't noticed it. (The usual excuse: I'm on my itty-bitty cell phone.) But yup, there it is!

I didn't notice it at first either. But the look is kind of cool. Now to theorize and hypothesize what it means.

It means ... pure drama. Everything they know will be tested. Everyone they know is under threat.

Or to quote Sherlock ... Absolutely no idea. :P

Yes the idea rumbling around the fandom is that it's supposed to represent the death of a family member.

Posted

What? Mary is not proper family, anyway, and the baby was shown alive both in Sherlockshome.net and Sherlockology. If they snuff off Mycroft, oh, my ears and whiskers! That shall have torn it, and I have already pre-ordered the flipping thing! No, hands off Mycroft Holmes!

On top of that, it's the E string which is broken. If it were the G-string, they could have been having a laugh at our expense, no news there! But E?

Someone's wife is not "proper" family? Wow, I'll have to let my Mom and my sister-in-law know they're not welcome to any more family gatherings. I'm sure they'll understand.

Oh, dear, my long-suffering moderator and shadowy teddy bear: has any member of your family tried to shoot your best friend in an almost-fatal way and leave them bleeding? If so, you may be part of the Addams Family. Because you need to remember that it was Magnussen who picked up his glasses and his mobile off the floor and called 999, not Mary Dear, no matter what Sherlock tells John. Watch that sequence carefully, and you will see what I mean. In a way, poor Dr Watson is being manipulated by his assassin of a wife and his best friend, in that dratted episode!
