Did anyone watch or hear what that female of the species asked Benedict on that Asia TV programme? How that man keeps cool under such onslaughts remains a mystery to me!

If I had been in his place, I would have thanked her for wasting my time, unclipped the microphone and walked out of there. The sheer indelicacy of her question is staggering!

I didn't. What did she ask?

I did, however, have the misfortune to see Mark's Q&A in India.

Here he had to face an onslaught of a 'Johnlock' chant...but he told them alright.

Sorry, I don't know what program you're talking about.  Did someone already post a link to a video?

Dear J.P. Posted a link to that CNN Talk Asia TV interview, and the very first thing that female tarantula of a reporter asked him was where all the sex appeal came from. What J.P. posted were what appeared to be cute Cumberbatchisms, as they are on that link, but what the interviewer asked is beyond the pale! He's not fair game, it's just not on! And then we wonder how that technician quit his job!

I didn't hear the Asian interview, so I'm probably speaking a bit out of turn, but if anyone (BC included) is going to be in a field in which his success is partially dependent on his ability to interface with the media, he's going to have to learn to handle these kinds of awkward questions.  He won't break in two if he's confronted with an embarrassing question during an interview.

He is, in fact, relatively routinely named to "sexiest man" lists, so he needs to come up with some pat answer that he always says and just leave it at that.  I think he's even succeeded at doing so before this; just a comment about "this is tremendously flattering and a little embarrassing because it's not something I ever think about myself."

In a way, it's our fault for voting for him in the Glamour magazine contest! But what an inane question to ask, especially for someone working for CNN! "Where" it comes from? Honestly!

I honestly hope BC never gets completely comfortable with the idea.  I find his confusion at being thought hot/attractive rather endearing.  lol

I really like this article Cumberbatch, Hamlet, and the Theatre of Snobbery

BTW, if you have a url that triggers the Forbidden Error, tinyurl.com can be helpful. :)

Or in this case, you can just use this: http://www.walesartsreview.org/theatre-cumberbatch-hamlet-and-the-theatre-of-snobbery/

Thanks for the URL tip, J.P. -- that could come in very handy!

Unfortunately, your Cumberbatch link doesn't work for me -- I get a new tab (that calls itself simply "New Tab") with "tinyurl.com/partfy6" in the URL bar.  And then -- nothing.  No indication that anything's loading.  Maybe it's my internet service acting up again.  Is the link working for the rest of you?

I had no trouble reading the article from Arcadia's link (many thanks for that), and what that person says makes sense. For instance, I'm an unconditional fan of anything Ibsen but can barely endure Brecht. I love Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky and Gogol (the last one wrote for the theatre, too) , but have read Turgeniev and Chekov only once.

Each one has different tastes and reacts differently to cultural stimuli. So why should Benedict's fans not fall into different categories, as well?

Only Hari Sheldon managed to calculate the mathematics of the whole human race with his psychohistory research, and that's SF!

Nope. But I assumed it was operator error.....

Here are some fragments of the interview. Noticed quite many umm-s and ehm-s in his answers though.

So, I was washing the dishes last night, and I started thinking about this (because, really, what's a better way to get through a boring task than to think about Benedict Cumberbatch? :D ) and I realized BC really doesn't have a clue about what makes either him or Sherlock "sexy." (Not the term I would use, by the way ... I favor "attractive" and sometimes "beautiful.") It's not the looks, boy! Or, not just the looks. It's the way Sherlock moves, and his intensity, his concentration, his athleticism, and the freakin' intelligence (brainy really IS the new sexy) ... and the way he moves ... in a visual medium that's chock full of static characters, he's simply glorious to watch.

Oh, and let's not forget The Voice.

With BC himself it's more about decency and humor and personality, and I won't embarrass myself or him by elaborating, but dang he can be so cute sometimes...

I just replied to another thread that discuss about BC's appeal. What are the odds? I guess that one being hijacked then XD, didn't notice which thread it is.

Anyway, I hope the dishes are being done

Don't let them drop into saliva cesspool..

Yes, I know, I was just over there reading it! :naughty: Great minds think alike... although in this case it might have something more to do with our hormones than our minds...

I'm not sure we actually have an appropriate thread for drooling over BC......

Oh for that, in my personal opinion, every thread here is appropriate for that. XD

Is this the appropriate time to use "Down, girls!"?

Benedict is a wonderfully versatile actor, a real gentleman and I believe the American expression is 'easy on the eyes' , but I shall have to agree about THE voice! I would need more than the sum of my fingers and toes to count the times I listened to his latest Rumpole series in BBC Radio 4!

Yes, I'm afraid so.

Dang! Where did I hear/read this: Ben was using dental somethings for Turing. He has definitely his cheeks filled for Black Mass. Maybe he did something similar for Sherlock? Ah, what a pity I was such a newbie at the Con. I would have much better questions now. I think I need a new Sherlocked event and a lottery win. ^_^

Maybe "dental prosthetics"?  That just means fake teeth, and Cumberbatch says he was doing his best to capture "[e]verything from the way [Turing] laughed to the way he moved and held his head, to his teeth—I had a set of teeth put in the front—his hair, his way of sitting...."

The only thing I've ever heard he uses for Sherlock is a ton of makeup so his skin will look so pale. And The Hair, of course.

"Dental plates" is what one article called them, is that what you're looking for? Aka dentures.

Yes I think it's denture.

For Sherlock, I remember reading that he avoids being tan, cut down alcohol and cigarette and has some kind of diet to achieve lean Sherlock.

Anyway, fun fact: BC and Alan Turing are actually related in real life.
