Why am I not reassured...

We're Sherlockians who are 1/3 of the way through the current series. We're all a little mad here as in Mad Hatter & March Hare mad.

The awesome thing is, we are aware of our madness and proud of it.

We also have no remorse in setting trap to get others mad as well.

And anytime we are talking madly, it feels like fruitful and satisfying day.

And..

And..

Now what would Mycroft think of our madness besides applauding us on realizing it without much outside input?

I think he'd just roll his eyes and sigh.

I think he'd use us as experimental subjects for new drugs. We'd all be locked away in cages in Baskerville. Hm, my opinion of Mycroft seems darker than everyone elses.

Are you sure we arent there already? Just dreaming our happy collective dream?

PS I've got an outside input. A woman called me crazy in London as I was brought to the front of the cue for an authograph (don't remember who's). She said it as a compliment and with so much affection that I wanted it as a tatoo on my forehead.

I forgot it, but I found it by googling:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/24458231-mycroft-holmes

Oh, I'd forgotten about that book. We'd discussed it earlier, probably on this thread. It's called Mycroft Holmes, and it was written by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, a retired basketball star, and also a big (pun acknowledged, though not intentional) Conan Doyle fan. Last anyone mentioned it here, though, I believe it was still forthcoming, and I've seen no reviews.

Added: It's got four stars on Amazon.com. sounds worth reading.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

If you haven't seen Series 4 yet, be ye warned that the next posts take place after it aired.

Oh, I've been waiting for Mycroft!

I should write something really profound about character growth and everything, but to heck with it.

Mycroft and Lady Smallwood!

OK, so I always thought that Mycroft was both gay and asexual.  And he might well be. (And not trying to bring the guess-the-orientation debate over here).  But that look of interest as he picks that card up!  Like maybe he'd never even considered that he would have a chance with someone like Lady Smallwood, and he just might give it a go.  One of my favorite moments from the whole series, TBH.  Quite possibly, my new secondary ship.

I was also totally shocked at the Lady Smallwood angle, as I thought they had been hinting that Mycroft was gay and a bit secretive about it.

But isn't Lady Smallwood much older than him? And then, I don't like them. Not at all.

I have never wondered about Mycroft's sexual orientation or any kind of sexual desire, I simply thought he was kind of "superior", because he was so intelligent and authoritative, I don't know why I gave for sure he didn't want to waste time with anything concernes recreation (going out for dinner, hanging out with friends, sex and stuff like that). Or maybe I simply thought he couldn't have friends or love because of his strong self-confidence and power.

I never gave it much thought either. But there was something after seeing S3, and rewatching TEH ... when Sherlock says something to Mycroft about getting a goldfish ... my mind went aha! Lady Smallwood! Quite forgetting she was married at the time. Not that that would stop them, I suppose, but they both strike me as rather honorable sorts who wouldn't cheat like that.

But then I read where Mark said he thought Mycroft was gay, and that was that.

And to be honest, just because he's thinking of giving Lady S. a call doesn't mean he's romantically interested, maybe he's just thinking of giving that friendship thing a try.

But what really amused me was the sneaky little implication they'd already had sex. That came so out of left field that I missed it entirely the first time. What!!?!???!?

Just something to keep the shippers busy for awhile.... :d

Posted

That was sneaky!

Maybe Mycroft might be bisexual? I was sure Sherlock has all but said he was gay, though. There was the goldfish line, something about being different, a few things...

Mycroft has been doing a lot of favours for Lady Smallwood for a long time. (and I've just realised that sounds like the subtitle of a dodgy fanfic. What have they done to us?)

Sherlock made a joke in ASiB about Mycroft being the queen, and another in TEH about him having never met a woman ... I'll leave you to your deductions. ;)

It is kind of funny how both Sherlock and Mycroft love to make jabs at each other about their non-existent sex lives, all the while both claiming that caring is not an advantage.

A thread for discussing Mycroft....

I first read that as "a thread for dissing Mycroft." Much as I love him, sounds like fun! :P

If you mean the scene overlap, I wouldn't take that as any more than a joke. But if that's NOT what you were referring to, then

I don't remember any implication they'd gotten down and dirty before?

Not sure if this belongs here or in the Mrs H thread, either I guess, but I thought calling him a reptile was a bit uncalled for and overly harsh. Poor Myc.

Oh, that reminds me of something else I've been wondering about -- is Mycroft's nickname spelt Myc or Mike? I tend toward the latter, since I believe Mummy also addresses him as Mikey, which strikes me as kinda hard to spell the other way.

Besides, maybe she's a Heinlein fan, and named her eldest after Mycroft (AKA Mike), the sentient computer in his novel The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress. (Which would get a bit circular, since the computer is named after the Conan Doyle character, but what the heck.)

I really love the character of Mycroft.  I have been fascinated with him throughout all the seasons and he does get a bad rap from the other characters, poor guy.

As to the Lady Smallwood thing...I found that very intriguing!  I fully expected him to pick up her phone number with like a pair of tweezers and delicately toss it in the trash lol, but no, he was...interested.  It's kinda hot lol.

But this season humanized him a lot.  His interactions with Sherlock were warmer than before, including being genuinely happy at Sherlock's praising his acting!  Also acting like a jerk so it would be easier for Sherlock to shoot him, his physical and emotional reactions to Eurus's games, and even allowing himself to be comforted by Mummy at the end!   Unlike Eurus,  Mycroft is just as capable as Sherlock of embracing his emotions and human connections if he would only allow himself to, he is just figuring it out later but he could get there eventually.

Yes it does, shall I start one? :D

Yes I do and neither do I. ;)

I can't remember the exact dialog, but it's when Mycroft is apologizing to Lady S. for suspecting her of being "Amo." Then there's a jump cut to Sherlock and "Faith", and Faith is wondering how Sherlock knows she "hasn't been getting any."

So, loosely, the dialog is something like this: Myc: How can I make it up to you? Lady S. Maybe we could have... Faith: Sex.

Then the very next time we see Myc and Lady S, they are putting their coats on.

I thought it was hysterical once I got it. :D Oh those boys, they do love to twit their sex-crazed fans....

I thought the same thing! Tricked me again, Moftiss! (Am I weird for enjoying being trolled by these guys? :D )

There is Lady Bracknell to consider too, and also Mycroft's glee at the dressing up he does getting in to Sherrinford. Maybe they are hinting he has an interest in role play?

Posted

Or cosplaying. He was clearly channeling Balin the Dwarf. :D

I wish he burned his fingers on Lady Smalwood's card :P

As for him being gay - this always makes me think about the Private Life of Mycroft Holmes aka The London Spy. Urgs.

Just checking to make sure I really created this thread, I thought so, but it disappeared. No one has any more comments about our beloved big brother? Shall we bash him for awhile for his handling of Eurus?
