Nope, I meant Sherlock blowing somebody's brains out in front of witnesses, fully prepared to serve a life sentence.

I know, Bev.  I'm just wondering what Moftiss might turn that into in the long run.  They have a way of being creative.

Oh, is that what we're calling it now? :P

Aye, creative with the truth, like former American presidents!

Has anyone noticed that in both SoT and HLV they are giving him almost telepathic abilities?

"Shut up, Mrs Hudson, you are formulating a question and it is physically painful watching you think" and in the last one,

"There were a lot of people talking, none of them me, so I must have filtered. Nowadays I have got Mrs Hudson on semi-permanent mute"

Might be good for a laugh, but a Bit Not Good, for a normal human, and not a half-Vulcan!

Sorry sir, not agree with you there

they do not give him the "almost telepathic abilities".....they just give him to show what he already have........the great ability of deduction and reading people body and facial language

Don't be led astray by avatars, yusree dear! Inge is a girl's name, not like Sherlock, albeit handicapped by being German ^_^! What does yours mean, if I may be permitted to ask? Mine is an acronym, by the way.

Abilities are one thing, but he is not deducing thought patterns, he seems to be reading her thoughts!

Sherlock's ability to "read minds" is straight out of canon.  For example, in "The Dancing Men," Holmes astounds Watson by saying that the doctor has decided not to invest in South African securities, even though he has not mentioned it.  But then Holmes takes him step by step through his observations of Watson's recent appearance and behavior, and it all makes perfect sense.

Sorry, that was not mind-reading, that was a rather good process of deductions that added up to what seemed to the hapless bystander as mind-reading, and it was not even ACD who created it but Edgar Allan Poe in The Gold Bug.

I still have no clue what Moffat was referring to. I wonder whether he has.

I can't stop wondering what he means by referring to "consequences". For who? Of what? I mean, there were plenty of consequences in series 3 already. There were plenty in series 2. Moriarty's whole plan revolved around Sherlock being brought to fall by the fruits of his own arrogance. But what Moffat said about series 4 was something along the lines of "it's not a safe way to live". I assume that by "it" he means the kind of life that Sherlock has. Perhaps next series he'll come across a case that is just too much for him? An enemy worse than Magnussen? But honestly, how much more badly than in His Last Vow could a case go?

Also, either Moftiss or Benedict said something about Sherlock being "pressed" in S4 ... and I agree, how much worse can it get than to be pressed to commit murder? Suicide, maybe? Been there, done that. :P (This is why I'm not a fiction writer, folks, I don't have enough malice in me to put my heroes in peril!)

The best I can do right now is the reference to the "death threats" in TSo3 -- we could have a season full of Sherlock  on the run, dodging assassins, with limited access to his usual support system -- I guess that could be pretty "pressing" and "dark" and "facing consequences."

But I wonder if the "consequences" aren't for Sherlock so much as for John and/or Mary the next time around? I keep thinking John was pushed into the background a bit in S3; and then they drop this "addicted to danger" bomb. So maybe it's his turn to come forward again, and face the consequences of hanging out with people like Sherlock and Mary? Urgh. I don't like the sound of that, seems to me John's done enough suffering for awhile. Shoo, Moftiss, look the other way.

The one I'd LIKE to see suffer some consequences is Mycroft.  That could be awesome.

My thought: Sherlock gets pressed more because of Molly & their relationship.

If anyone needs between now and series 4, I'll just be over here in my catatonic state.

Since it looks like the word "me" is missing between the words "needs" and "between", I'm assuming the catatonic state started kicking in as you were typing ;) :)

Aw, leave poor Mycroft alone. What's he ever done to anyone? Heh. I love his rotten ways.

I agree, the aggrieved elder brother may even have had a hand in ensuring Sherlock's return to 'England' which needs his dragon-slaying abilities! Pressure points remain John & Mary the former assassin, not to forget the possible baby! If we live that long, we may get to watch the series! However, if their scheduling remains problematic there will be an issue of hair, eventually, because of the main character's age. Slicked-back is more becoming in a fortyish Sherlock.

Oh really? You HAVE seen the photos, right?  (Sorry, Ben, it's not you, it's what the hair does to you!!!!!)

I second Arcadia as I have the same problem on occasion.

Yes, of course it was (which is why I put "read minds" in quotes).  I was simply adding my two cents to the discussion following Inge's original comment:

"Shut up, Mrs Hudson, you are formulating a question and it is physically painful watching you think" and in the last one,

As Yusree pointed out, that's not telepathy, that's observation and deduction.  As I pointed out, "our" Sherlock inherited that ability from Conan Doyle's Holmes.  (And as for where Holmes got it from, that's a whole other dissertation -- nothing new under the sun, and all that.)
