Totally agree.  And I just think that our modern society doesn't have quite the understanding of or visceral respect for philia, so it becomes tempting to reinterpret what we see as eros instead.

I have a hard time thinking of Mycroft as anything. He seems barely human most of the time. And Irene seems to identify as gay as well, yet she still accepts male clients and fell in love with Sherlock Holmes (or something like love). It's not that cut and dried...

 

I'm going with really not wanting to know anything about Mycroft's sex life. I have like a negative interest in it.

Mycroft being a member of S-M club is equal with asking for trouble. Then again, we often see in real life about people who should know better are doing stupid things beyond common sense dictates.

And yes, thank you for asking; I'm so much better!  I still have a few weeks of therapy before I can get back to anything that looks like competitive dancing, but right now my knee feels fabulous!  Surgery was definitely the best thing I've ever done medically.

Yay! Glad to hear it! Keep up with your therapy and you'll do fine. You might want to hold off doing those knee slides for awhile though. :P

Actually, sittything is right, because Mr Gatiss has not denied that Mycroft is gay, Irene is a lesbian, so their club would work just fine! The problem starts when one sexually pairs off the two brothers. It's scary, breaking all taboos, but in the hands of a good writer ( yes, there are several in Ao3) it becomes hilariously funny. You get all Sherlock's snarkiness paired with Mycroft's superciliousness and aloofness, all their care for each other, especially Mycroft's protectiveness even when it comes to dealing with sex. It's entirely the writers' view, of course, because Mycroft taunts Sherlock about it in SiB in the palace scene: "How would you know?" , and for Sherlock, it's payback time in TEH with the exact same phrase about Mycroft's loneliness.

I always think there's a service staffed by the finest, cleanest, most discreet "working" men and women in the U.K. ready to provide such services to members of the Diogenes.  I always think Mycroft avails himself of this service once in a while, much like he would a trip to the dentist.

Dear Arcadia, you mean to say you have not yet reserved your suite at the local funny farm? It comes with being unconditional Sherlock fans, I should have thought! Mine is close to my uncle's in Bonn, so I shall be in good hands when it eventually strikes! :smile:

The scary part is, I believe all this when I'm not on prescription anesthetics, too.  It's just that when I am, I also believe that I'm as brilliant as Sherlock!

I was thinking of calling the funny farm for Boton, but now that you bring it up, reserving a space for me would make more sense! :D
