Your *other* favourite detectives?

So we know we all like Mr Sherlock Holmes, but which other sleuths do you also admire?

 

(As there's no way I could possibly think of all fictional detectives, any that you can think of that aren't in the poll, add them below and I'll add them to the poll)

Harry Dresden! I absolutely adore the character, and it's not just because James Marsters reads the audiobooks. The whole series is really well written, there are very interesting moments of character deconstruction, nobody is as white or as black as they appear when we first meet it, and the Sidhe and other Faes are hilarious at times.

And I'm stupidly fond of Inspector Gadget and his way of messing up. And I love Brain (although he was never called that when I watched in Spanish, but never mind. I'm still translating half my childhood, please bear with me).

I do enjoy Agatha Christie's sleuths as well, although I find some of the stories quite predictable... And I do like Lewis, but I think that has something to do with Hathaway's sarcasm as well...

Is this limited to actual detectives (police or private), -- or can we also nominate lawyers, writers, insurance investigators, et al., who act like detectives but technically are not? For example:

And though not exactly a true detective but someone who has set out on an investigation of his own, I'd have to pick a certain Leonard Shelby from the neo-noir film Memento. His ailment makes his journey all the more memorable. For those who haven't seen Memento, I urge you to do so.

 

Oh, and I would also have to choose FBI Agents Will Graham and Clarice Starling from the Hannibal Lecter series of books. Will Graham in particular with his absolute morbid imagination that can make anyone cringe. I do insist that those who haven't should read Red Dragon if they have nothing else to do.

I don't think even three times 20 are enough for all our favourite detectives. Just for starters, I'm missing C. Auguste Dupin and Decius Metellus.

Charlie Crews, very much.  (Played by another British public school boy.)  If the writer's strike hadn't happened, I'm sure the show would have been HUGE and gone on for years.  May be best for Mr.Lewis that it did not.  I rewatch it on Netflix all the time.

 

Monk.  The writers seemed to be as smart as their detective.
