I'm hoping Molly has a decent enough role in TAB.  At least a couple good scenes?  And Mycroft too.

The lack of Molly in the many promotional pictures and trailer is most alarming. Maybe she has a crazy new look in the trailer that would give her character away too much? Like she has to dress as a man to get ahead in her profession? Or a nun?

I'd be more worried if we hadn't seen her in costume filming.  Although, I do agree and worry that the lack of Molly in the trailer and the lack of promotional photos mean she's barely in it.

I missed that! Do you remember what she was wearing? Yep, especially when there are photos of Lestrade. Though I suppose the new facial hair is note-worthy.

Here's one photo of her leaving set:

That's so cool, thank you! She looks amazing, though I'm no wiser as to her character.

Well, she's apparently playing neither a man nor a nun!

I'd still love to see her be a doctor.

she be a nurse

She could be a doctor.  Loo plays a doctor on Ripper Street and that's set about the same time as this Sherlock special.

I mean that's assuming Molly is a doctor... the big debate.   :)  I'm clearly on team doctor.

I'm intrigued by the street scene with the portion of the room...

Apparently the folks at Hartswood don't think we're excited enough already, here's another little peek at the Special:

Not much in the way of new scenes there (though we do see Holmes & Watson approaching what certainly appears to be the Diogenes Club from the street).  Always good to see more behind-the-scenes stuff, though.

Moffat refers to this as "a very different episode," then chuckles and adds, "a very special episode."  I assume he's aware of that cliche, and is using the term as a joke.  I hope!

I'm guessing that's in Holmes's Mind Palace.

Well, a quick skim through the "Radio Times" suggests that Sherlock is the one stand-out event of the festive season, as far as tv is concerned.  (Though there is Aidan Turner in an Agatha Christie who-dunnit, and the magazine hints that he is sometimes "clad only in a towel"!)  I think the snippets that we've seen so far look very promising.  Difficult to go wrong when you've got fog, gaslight, hansom cabs and all the gothic romance of Victorian London.

The shorter the time until the Special... the shorter my patience grows.

Exactly. I predict that the special will be enjoyable, perhaps even more so for me if I treat it as a regular movie and don't focus too much on what my expectations may be based on the series.

I'm still hoping to see the books come alive. The costumes look very promising, and from what I have seen in the trailers, we will probably get Benedict Cumberbatch as Mr Holmes rather than Sherlock. Which is okay... I guess. I am trying to think of it as an addition, not a replacement.

I don't see the problem here! J.P. travelled to London for the convention, Poland is next door, can be reached by train from Stuttgart! Surely, a two-day leave would not be so hard to arrange! The same way I shall try to go to Denmark, based on Toby's reassurance about subtitles. When there's a will, there's a way, and we are quite obstreperous, dedicated fans, after all!
