J.P., this was the sort of thing I was talking about, you know how some VIP ticket people went mad about him not attending? Although at 3000 pounds a ticket, it seems madness if the stars aren't coming.

This article is just stupid BS, sorry.

All people buying VIPs (as well as other packages) were well aware, that he wasn't on the guest list. So if anyone was "enraged", she/he needs better glasses or a new brain, and deserves no better.

And you really cannot expect from the big stars to arrange their schedules to attend a convention. The Bride actress was planned but got a baby (most probably a bit too soon), there is always a chance something will happen.

BTW if you compare VIP tickets with those from other events, it changes the perspective a bit.

I wonder if the cast didn't like the writing in season 4 and felt like it was a good time to end it before it was past its prime? I thought it was interesting that LB still hasn't seen TFP.

I do wonder how she felt about that second in the montage being Molly's last scene. I can imagine some awkward behind the scenes talks about character motivation

Moffat probably told her the same thing he told EW... that Sherlock told Molly he had to do it and now everything's fine. I wouldn't buy that if I were her but I doubt Moffat put much thought into Molly after the ILY scene.

She knows she's a minor supporting character, no matter how much people like her. At least she wasn't written out like Donovan, Anderson, Anthea etc. I still wonder what happened to Donovan, as much as I disliked her. I've come across a few fics where she (Donovan) has Sherlock's baby, maybe that's what she's up to. ;)

I just assumed that Donovan and Anderson much like Lestrade weren't shown simply because Sherlock stopped working with the police or at least in season 3 and 4 he wasn't a consulting detective.

Posted

Yea, but I can't help but wonder. Was Donovan promoted for bringing the extent of Sherlock's case involvement to the Chief Superintendent's notice? Was she shamed when his name was cleared and Moriarty was proved to be real? Is Anderson still working for NSY even though he seems to have gone off his rocker?

Posted

I did find the Anderson in TEH a bizarro version of the one in TRF. I almost didn't recognize him and then when he was falling all over Sherlock at the end was a bit much too.

Posted

I wonder what got him to that point too since he was so convinced Sherlock was a dangerous fraud.

He wasn't? Then why was Lestrade still bringing him cases?

I must be forgetting cases. In TEH was the fake Anderson created skeleton. I don't remember one in the wedding episode. HLV was the CAM episode though Anderson was in the mind palace. In season 4 what case did they bring him? I can't think of one. Either way working with the police was not a focus the last two seasons.

Posted

Lestrade brought Sherlock the kid in the car in T6T. The Jack the Ripper skeleton wasn't created by Anderson was it?

Posted

I thought so. Isn't they why Sherlock went to see Anderson to begin with at the end of TEH? Let me look it up.

Per transcript:

(Sherlock sighs.)

SHERLOCK: Everyone’s a critic. Anyway, that’s not why I came.

ANDERSON: No?

SHERLOCK: No. I think you know why I’m here, Phillip. “How I Did It” by Jack the Ripper?

(Anderson looks at him wide-eyed, his mouth opening but no words coming out for a moment. He lowers his head.)

ANDERSON: Didn’t you think it was intriguing? (He looks up hopefully.)

SHERLOCK (standing up): Lurid. A case so sensational, you hoped I’d be interested. But you overdid it, Phillip – you and your little ‘fan club.’

(He starts to pace around him.)

ANDERSON: I just couldn’t live with myself, knowing that I’d driven you to ... (He stops.)

SHERLOCK: But you didn’t. You were always right. I wasn’t dead.

ANDERSON (staring up at him while he continues to pace): No. No, and everything’s okay now, isn’t it?

SHERLOCK: Yeah.

(Anderson laughs in a relieved way.)

SHERLOCK (stopping and looking down at him): Of course you’ve wasted police time, perverted the course of justice, risked distracting me from a massive terrorist assault that could have both destroyed Parliament and caused the death of hundreds of people.

ANDERSON (tearfully): Oh, God.

(He breaks down in tears, grabbing Sherlock and pulling him close.)

ANDERSON: Oh, God, I’m sorry, Sherlock. I’m so sorry.

Yeah, it was.

There was a slew of cases with Molly, but I guess Lestrade didn't bring him those ... but Sherlock was still detecting, consultantly. At the wedding, I guess you could say Sherlock brought the case to Greg. Oh, and those cases he solved without leaving the flat.

And in T6T, it wasn't just Lestrade, but also Dimmock and the new girl (who I assume would have been Donovan if the actress had been available ... they said they'd written a bit for her.) The lady cop was looking for the pearl, and I never did catch what Dimmock was working on. Oh, and there were some more private clients too ... the guy who wore his wife's clothes, and some couple that Sherlock soundly insulted. And, of course, "Faith", in TLD. I assume she would have chosen a different approach if he weren't still detecting at that point.

If Donovan had turned up asking for help I would have hated it. You can't call someone 'Freak' for years and then expect them to help you advance your career.

By consulting detective I specifically meant working with the police, thus referencing the policemen. When he talked to John in TSIP he used the consulting detective description when referencing working with the police.

Considering how he pushed her replacement out the door, I don't think we'd have to assume Sherlock was actually feeling helpful towards her.

Although I was just complimenting him recently for being so good at forgiving the slights people heap on him. If she tried to apologize, he probably just smirked at her and told her what she had for dinner.

Which is why I mentioned Lestrade, the case at the wedding, Dimmock, and the lady cop. But I personally believe Sherlock retains the title even when he has private clients.

What I don't understand is why the hell they brought the word "amo" into TST.

Just to make us dance around the ILU scene?

Yeah, probably. -_-

Then they could do us a favor and at least write some kind of connection.

I wonder if they had any say in their codenames? I'd be miffed if my codename was love.

I think it fits well with the "love is dangerous" theme of the series overall. I liked it.

I have to say that perhaps in time this episode will grow on me more, but from the start I felt it was off-putting.  From Sherlock's weird behavior in the private cabinet meeting to Mary's jump in front of the bullet, I was wincing a bit.  Mind you, I was thinking they were going to off Mary, but once the gun is fired, the bullet would have been in Sherlock a split second later.  No way could she have moved that fast.  I didn't buy that particular way of offing her character.

I think there are some interesting bits in the episode, and certainly if he could have found that pearl on top of everything else, that would have been nice.

Something about the episode, however, didn't quite fit with the episodes that had come before.  And I still don't get that thing about him furiously texting.  That little bit never went anywhere.

Wasn't the furious texting him on Twitter? Which yep, also didn't go anywhere.

The only explanation of the bullet thing - Mary can read intentions due to her training, so she knows Norbury will shoot before the bullet leaves the gun. But it's not shown that way (editing!) and it looks stupid.

Agree.  "Hollywood" physics.  (Yes, I know it wasn't made in Hollywood.)

Sometimes, I hope that everyone who doesn't have gun training gets all their knowledge about firearms from TV and movies, because if they use the techniques seen on screen when firing a weapon, we'd all be perfectly safe because they'd never hit anything!

The "amo" thing and the texting ... I really thought those were either going to turn out to be red herrings, or have some significance in the later episodes. But they were neither ... just pointless detail, imo. I do think "amo" was meant to be a red herring, but they muffed it if it was.

That's the main thing I notice about T6T, sfmpco ... it doesn't fit, it feels like it's from a different TV show. And it drives me freakin' nutz. I think I could accept some of the silliness more if the dang thing didn't just LOOK so wrong .... ak!!!!!!!!

Posted

The 'amo" wasn't a red herring as it clearly went back to the code name LOVE of one of the people involved with the Tblisi incident, although that person, Lady Smallwood, was nearly framed for what her secretary actually did.
