I call shenanigans on the 'golden wrap' thing meaning it is AA finished because Mary is dead/ gone. No one ever really dies on Sherlock. Have yet to see Andrew Scott's 'golden wrap'.

Even if she does die, there is always room in the Mind Palace for one more (she'd have to make an appearance there, especially if she died in tragic/ dramatic circumstances)

So, as usual, I'm guessing we know just about nothing.

@ J.P The point is , hopefully, not to divide the fandom with the antics started in SoT but to keep it united! If we are split in TJLC and non-TJLC, then the crafty Moftiss duo will have driven a wedge in their fandom which will be irreparable and of their own making.

I'm almost ashamed to admit I don't know this - but what's TJLC?

Posted

TJLC = The JohnLock Conspiracy, which is the theory that the writers have been "conspiring" from Season 1 to have Sherlock and John become a romantic couple some day. The TJLC'ers say there's tons of proof in the show (well, they call it "proof" ... other people call it wishful thinking, misinterpretation, or worse) that the two will confess their love in Season 4. The introduction of Mary threw a bit of a monkeywrench into their theories, and as near as I can tell, that's when the theorists became ... um, shall we say ... particularly, er, ardent. Naturally, that's led to rancor between some of those who believe in TJLC, and some of those who think it doesn't exist, because God forbid each group should let the other enjoy the show in their own way.

Okay, thanks for setting me straight. (I'll go on the record here - I almost can't believe people are really serious about this!)

To be honest, for awhile there they almost had me convinced. But the deeper I looked into it, the less it held together for me. There are too many instances of "proofs" that are merely interpretations, imo. When they really lost me was when I ran into the "Sherlock must be gay because he drinks tea" theory. Whaaaaattt?

That one in particular still makes me

Oh wow, kinda felt I'd always dodged the bullet on that one here...after all, this is why I AM here!

But seeing as it's raised its ugly head.

For anybody out there who doesn't know or even cares...I am not a Johnlocker.  In the sense that I accept the team have never and are not going to write it into the show.  This doesn't mean I can't enjoy fan art and certainly have no objection to fanfic or fan vids and possibly even enjoy my own occasional flight of fantasy on the theme.  But I am perfectly capable of separating me, from the actual show.

I really didn't want to get into this too much, I still bear the scars from previous fora and facebook groups.

So I don't even want to scroll back too far on this page.

However I did see something which I feel I want to address straight away:  Mark and Steven have neither caused any problem nor driven any wedges.  They have always been perfectly clear with their intentions for the show, from the very start.

Any issues are all entirely of the fandom's own making.

I don't think you need to worry too much about it getting nasty on here, there is a TJLC thread and even on there it didn't get too heated. It's the whole 'Mark is a traitor to gay rights if he doesn't do it' that really gets my goat.

Oh, were you both in hibernation when TAB aired and then went on to be screened?

They were asked about the issue specifically at ComicCon, played coy and let the conflict continue! Kudos to both for widening the rift and splitting the fandom. And when asked about their favourite film by Louis Moffat, both replied The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, that mediocre Wilder film, whose creator said in an interview that without the Breen law on film censorship, he would have made Sherlock a closet homosexual as a reason for needing morphine.

I haven't read that one (and I'm not about to go looking), but some of the arguments that lost me seemed to rely heavily on gay stereotypes, and that just seemed wrong. For example, "Sherlock must be gay because he has great fashion sense and always does his hair."

I agree.  Yes, they've been cryptic and they've engaged in teasing the fandom a good deal, but I don't know how many more ways they can say that they aren't telling a sexual relationship story here.  I think they've been very clear.

And that's an excellent reason for the creators to give that part of that movie's background a pass.  It would be really implausible in our modern era to think that very many people (and especially Sherlock Holmes) are in a situation that is so stressful that they have to turn to drugs to handle the stress of being closeted.

I do think that Moftiss can enjoy a Sherlock Holmes interpretation without incorporating all of its back story into their own creation.  They aren't making a summary; they are making a modernization and an homage.

Yes, I know, but they have been clear on the Johnlock point.

I really wish they wouldn't continue to joke about it, cos it just gets everyone riled up again.

I do think they could do without the gay jokes, it was funny at first but it's gone on a bit long now. Saying that were there any in HLV or TAB?

I almost hate to admit it, but I still think the jokes are funny...

As a change from all those sombre promo pics, I just thought I'd link to this image because I love it. I am seriously considering changing my Avatar to that dog - but then, I'd rather wait what he's actually like in the episode. Do you guys think this is their version of Toby?

I thought the jokes were hilarious...problem is, some took them seriously!

On the commentary for HLV, Mark says that should be the end of the joke now...

So I am not sure why they are still making these jokes at Q&As!

Yep, it's Toby and that is a fabulous pic.

Mrs Hudson still being surprised John was marrying a woman annoyed me, that was getting to the point of flogging a dead horse for me.

BRIT ALERT:  Amanda is on BBC 1's One Show NOW and they are going to show an exclusive clip form S 4!

This is the news thread, so is it official news...do I take my comments on the clip to the other thread?

Thank you so much for posting this.

I actually tried to copy and paste it into my sig and failed miserably...#technophobe

... that clip... I hate it. It better not all be that tone.

That clip doesn't have any of the music or anything laid over it yet, so it is hard for me to decide if that is a real slight to John or if it is being played for humor.  As with all of their little baity things, I'm just waiting for January 1 to see what they really intend.

I do hope they include it as one of the "funny" moments. Dr Watson's reaction of "Is it too early for a divorce yet?" was enjoyable as a retort to all the banter.

I think I'm going to have to stop going on Tumblr because I've already seen a couple of things today that have made me angry with how ridiculous people are being. I can normally ignore the odd annoying comment and just skip to interesting stuff but it is getting totally beyond.

First of all someone asked Moftiss in their Q&A about when John and Sherlock will be together, yet again, and Moftiss typed out a detailed answer about how they have no issue with a John and a Sherlock being in a relationship however their versions of the characters are not, and still the response on Tumblr was 'oh, how funny they're still trying to fool us by saying it won't happen when it obviously will.' ARGH!

Then I actually saw someone bring up the whole tea equals gay thing - someone asked them in the Q&A something relating to tea and coffee, Moffat replied he's more a coffee man and Gatiss is more a tea man, which they took as meaning Gatiss is a tea man because it's a sign of being gay. The whole tea thing is one of the ridiculous theories that makes me genuinely angry because it is beyond stupid. I am British, I drink tea constantly. My dad hates coffee and only drinks tea, my brothers drink tea, my male and female friends drink tea. Where the hell did it come from that drinking tea is somehow a shorthand version of someone being gay?! It's infuriating.
