Dear J.P., the slicked-back hair is not a problem, in real life Mr Cumberbatch often sports this style, and it worked wonders in the Imitation Game. It is the combination of the hairstyle and the "silly hat" which is decidedly off-putting, especially in profile! By the way, it is not pathology, that is Molly's specialty, it is psychopathology.

*Sigh*... I'm probably in no position to disapprove, seeing how much of my time I spend fussing over the private lives of fictional people, but I still can't help thinking that real people, even if they are public figures to a degree, should be a different matter. I'm trying to imagine how I'd feel if someone devoted an entire blog to me and my marriage. Not flattered, I can say that much. Probably not even amused.

All cultures are fussing over fictional people and treating them as if they were real - it must be something written in our genes and was done since several thousands of years. I think it is fascinating fact, but it seems to be a part of being human.

But I also draw the line when it comes to real persons, and it starts by fan fiction of any kind. I've read some in the past, and it always made me feel uncomfortable, as I cannot help but putting myself in the shoes of persons described.

Anyway, the special. Still trying to come to terms with that. Hmmm...(…) Because from what we have seen so far, I am willing to bet it will be beautiful.

I just wait and believe in Moftiss. The guys know what they are doing.

I am much more concerned with the airing date here in Germany.

He calls it a "side-step" -- whatever that may mean!

I guess it probably means the same as "in a bubble of its own" - the special is most likely a one shot and not really connected to the other episodes other than that it has the same characters. I imagine it's like one of those AU fan fics.

Not sure how I feel about that, but it seems that series 4 could not have come sooner than it will anyway, so the alternative would have been no Sherlock at all for what, 4 years? Better to have a silly Victorian frolic of a special than nothing. Also, if it doesn't tie in with the episodes very well, that will make it easier to ignore if I find I don't like it. Or maybe it'll make it easier to like in the first place.

Give the fandom a puzzle and watch them dance.  That's what it means.

Just had this bizarre idea... perhaps Mary gets killed in the special which would satisfy the death of Mrs. Watson in THAT time period but she's still around for the present day stuff for S4.  Holy mother of plot twists.

Dear sfmpco, you wish! It is not going to be THAT easy on anyone.

Bloody hell.  That was a sparkling idea.

Dear sfmpco, just a suggestion, but you are a scriptwriter yourself, could you not pitch your favourite concept for S4 while there is still time, and put us all out of our misery?

Your misery is no greater than mine. :)

Intriguing idea, but Hartswood seems to be running a closed shop, at least as regards writing Sherlock.  And even if they did hire her (or use her plot), she'd be contractually obligated to keep her mouth shut -- so we'd all still be in the dark till S4 airs.

Of course if Jenny could have plastic surgery to make her look like Steven Moffat ....

I'll contribute to that! You can have my birthday money.

Sorry, sorry again!

I did not mean that sfmpco should break a contract or do spoilers, or whatnot, I just meant that she might be more perceptive and better at getting the whole tangled skein of Sherlock- Moriarty (alive or not), Mary and the baby, and a poor bewildered, torn apart Dr Watson untangled better than the creators have done so far!

Quite frankly, I have made my sentiments clear on quite a few threads already, possibly irking some fan girl members, but there are quite a lot of things I feel dear sfmpco could FIX in that mess that was created in S3. If I start elaborating, it will be another rant, so I am consciously restraining myself as much as possible! :evilinside:

I dreamt that I was in the cinema for the global release of the Christmas special. Steven Moffat was sitting next to me and my husband although he became Mark Gatiss later on. He did speak to me but mumbled so badly I couldn't understand a word of it. The special itself was very confusing - it was a series of short stories revolving around Sherlock which each focused on one of the main characters at the time. John was up first and he had only five minutes of total screen time. So whatever happens in December, it can't nearly be as bad as what I witnessed last night!

My big concern with the Christmas special at the moment is that I may not be able to see it when it airs, and i will be at the mercy of waiting for it to be available for download on ITunes or for the release of the DVD... and I will be soooooo far behind in the game at that point.

That was me last time around...I was in Germany and then coming back from Italy when Season's Greetings and Empty Hearse aired.

I saw the former on my son's computer a few days later.

I got up after about 4 hours sleep to see the latter, as the BBC had promised they would try to get it on iplayer as soon as they could.

They tend to end up(illegally) on line very quickly...

I waited about 3 months to hear the last episode of Cabin Pressure.

Being a Sherlock fan has made me patient.

But it does help living in the country where the show is made!

Maybe we could make forum meet-up somewhere in England for the premiere. ;)

I don't mind waiting per se, but the inability to share and discuss, and I hate to be forced to avoid spoilers.
